Pentrich use the term imperial ipa

Is this just their way of expressing dipa?

Or am i going to get some old english, whiskers and elbow pads shit?

Imperial IPA is like an American IPA, but stronger and more "hoppy"

they are essentially the same thing, so it's just whatever name you prefer to go with

In simplest terms, a double or imperial IPA — they’re actually the same thing — is an IPA kicked up a notch. The Brewer’s Association defines an Imperial IPA as an IPA with color that is straw to medium amber, 6.0%-8.4% alcohol, with hop aromas and flavors that are very high, but not aggressively bitter.

Among brewers the general consensus is that a double IPA is an IPA with amplified aromas, flavors, and alcohol. The hops are more aggressive both in aroma and flavor, and the alcohol is typically above 7 percent, though this is not a formal rule, since the BA says it can go as low as 6%. So calling an IPA an imperial or a double is really up to the discretion of the brewer.

This style of IPA is still pretty young, too. It’s believed to have been invented by Vinnie Cilurzo, founder of Russian River Brewing, in 1994. Since then, the style has been adapted to meet the needs of whoever is brewing the beer. So if you order an imperial or double IPA the next time you’re out, just remember it’s probably hoppier and more alcoholic than the other IPAs you might be used to.

I’ve just been to Tommy Wrights.

He was telling me he can’t stock the Rivington and Cloudwater stuff fast enough, selling out with a day or two every time.

Ive just spent £30 on:

Cloudwater - Mountain Lager, 6%. It’s fucking obscenely good. A lager mixed with IPA and when I’m a millionaire I’m filling a pool with it.

Also got some Rivington’s:

KL KL - IPA 6.3%

As the rain falls - IPA 6%

Never known Fog - IPA 5.2%

See you tomorrow

Not had KL KL yet, or rain falls, i don't think, maybe i have, who knows

I did have a night off last night, and having another tonight, can't remember the last time i had two in a row off

Aiming for 3 or 4 in a row but going the gym tomorrow to sweat last month out, which will probably result in me feeling best i have of late and to celebrate will get pissed

Still, 2 in a row isn't bad

For the misers - like me...

Asda: Sagres 24x330ml slab - £15.

Home Bargains: Efes Draught 500ml bottles - £1.29.

Super Bock 660ml bottles - £1.69.

Red Stripe 330ml cans - 79p.

Wychwood Hobgoblin Gold 4x500ml - £4.79.

Taproom Dovestone IPA 330ml cans - 99p.

Various Love Lane Brewery 330ml bottles - 99p.

E1 Brew Co. IPA 440ml cans - 99p

Guinness Draft 4x440ml - £3.99. The robbing dogs at my corner shop charge £5.99 for the exact same product.

And for those on the wagon...

Becks Blue 4x330ml - £1. That's cheaper than Panda Pops, tastes like piss and bears no relation to real beer but cheaper than Panda Pops.

If I can't take advantage maybe others can...

Asda have 15x440ml of Guinness Draft for £13.

12×440ml Guinness Original for £10.50.

Both cheaper than the Home Bargains offer but...Not cheaper if you sup a whole bulk pack in one sitting. 😃

I love Guinness but I bow to anyone who drinks more than 8 in a night. Be like shitting a Goodyear tire

Took the plunge on Friday and tried the Aldi’s own lager. Tried the German pilsner and the imitation Kronenbourg/Estrella/Moretti and would genuinely say they’re just as good as the ‘originals’. Thoroughly enjoyed them.

Granted my Saturday was a struggle to the extent that I was asleep on the couch every time summat happened during the Bolton game. Not a chance I’d have made it if we’d have been allowed in. That might have been the whisky and vodka though.
