Just found it. Thought he might have said a little more TBH. I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Dave Greenfield. He was the difference between The Stranglers and every other punk band. His musical skill and gentle nature gave an interesting twist to the band. He should be remembered as the man who gave the world the music of “Golden Brown”. Hugh Cornwell 4/5/2020 Yes it was maybe a little distant. Not sure how things were between them. Here's the link if anyone wants to see some of the other tributes: http://www.thestranglers.co.uk/?p=16143#more-16143 It was nice to see some very different musical eras represented. Think he was deeply respected by his peers.
Smiley
Remember buying Golden Brown from WH Smith’s at Manchester Airport. Think it might even have been a Sunday afternoon. Back in the day when we had family “days out” just going to the airport, watching a few planes take off and land and then nipping in the shops. Widnes Two Hats
Been out with Hugh Cornwell a couple of times, went for a curry with him in Liverpool and his after party in Amsterdam where he bollocked me cause I drank all his wine, also stayed up with him all night in his hotel when he played Widnes, he said that JJ was off the rails and scared him which was the main reason he left in 90, but he did say that Dave Greenfield was the only one he kept in touch with, he's a miserable cunt at times so his short piece doesnt surprise me
Mike Hunt
From the bands Facebook page Dave Greenfield's funeral Dave has made his final journey. His funeral took place today, the 18th May 2020, at 3.30pm near his Cambridgeshire home. It was a private ceremony, through both choice and, sadly, necessity due to Covid 19 restrictions. Those friends and family who were unable to attend in person were able to view the service on line. Baz was present to pay his own tribute and those from the rest of the band were read during the ceremony, as they were unable to attend. The choice of music for the ceremony reflected Dave's life and his 35 year marriage to Pam. Sadly, on Sunday, some details were posted online giving the starting point of the funeral cortege and Pam has asked us to pass on her thanks to those who respected the privacy request and stayed away. Pam has also asked us to pass on her thanks for the numerous messages of condolence that she has received and for the generous donations to the chosen charities. If you would like to, please take time out to listen to The Stranglers' 1979 classic Ice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGTiYSszCT0 which features a classic Dave keyboard line and also had a deep personal meaning to Dave and Pam. Fond adieu, fly straight Dave xxx Edited May 18, 2020 by Mike Hunt Credit source
