It was written in the stars, as was our decline as soon as Allardyce left.

Another 5 seasons in the PL was ok really, if it wasn't for Al Habsi's heroics at Middlesbrough we'd have gone down 12 months after Allardyce left

We had Mark Davies and Tamir Cohen on the bench but he played Elmander in central midfield.

Spider thought Elmander was potentially one of the best midfielders we ever had

When we signed Elmander I thought he was going to be ace.  God he was bobbins, with occasional brilliance which in no way made up for the other 9 out of 10 games.  Compared to, just as an example, a far more talented and consistent striker and leader of the line, Jutkiewicz, who probably earned a 5th of his career earnings.

I've just looked at the goals for the first time in about 9 years and as much as we didnt turn up, on another day at least 3 of those goals dont happen and we're still in the game at least and avoid embarrassment.  Jussi useless on the long range shots and a gift from Robinson for the first (Alonso was on the bench, not saying he was perfect in those days but surely better than Robbo).  Mark Davies also on bench  (and Rodrigo out of interest).  We could have had a pen at 0-0 for poss handball then Cahill missed with a better chance than the one Huth scored with.  Any other day I'd back Cahill's shooting above Huth.

A few of us were in a box this year and the guy that showed us round the stadium pre match said that jussi injured his hand in the warm up and was in some pain and went in early.  He then really struggled with any shots low down and therefore was at fault for at least 2

And that was pure luck as jussi was injured and didn’t rasiak luckily for us get injured and that changed course of that game.

just checked and rasiak started infront of Diouf, that’s a sackable offence on its own. Very Gary fucking Megsonesque call that.

Shit under Megson, decent under Coyle

Elmander was class.

Megson couldn’t understand he wasn’t a target man despite being a superb manager to some on here.

Elmander was superb under Coyle. The midfield project was a deffo fail but not replacing him was a major reason in our slump next season.

I agree, it would have been great to replace an £8 million striker with Chris Eagles but sadly it didn't work out.

dunno why but the tottenham game where stelios scored , i have it in my mind that rasiak played awesome. and swapping him for diouf hoodwinked them at the right time.

"The second half got off to a bizarre start with Spurs full-back Alan Hutton, who had run out to take his place, called over to the other side of the pitch to be replaced by Tom Huddlestone.

Spurs' concentration at the back certainly seemed to be lacking moments later as Stelios - with his first touch of the match - pounced on a loose ball in the six-yard box to stab his side into the unlikeliest of leads, just 19 seconds after the restart."

cant watch it back to confirm either way.

like the anti robert fleck, did nowt and werent ours , but kicked arse that one game.

i also think we were emergency ward 10 for injuries at the time.

haha , it worked out anyway

We got absolutely destroyed from minute one at Spurs it was a total Alamo with the Stelios goal being a freak event in the middle of it all. They missed chance after chance, should have been about 6-0. But it wasn't.

My abiding memory of Rasiak was that he was a complete donkey for us but as someone coming in following Anelka, he was always going to look a poor replacement. Probably have been excellent for us in Championship.

Replacing him with a 4.5 million one didnt go too well, either

Or selling cahill and getting ream and sordell

If my timelines are out, forgive me, but i really dont care to think too much about coyles time

My therapist gets annoyed

If that's the case he shouldnt have played.  But it wasnt to have a go at individuals for mistakes etc, just that it seemed like sods law that Jussi lets in goals he would normally save, Stoke have incredibly accurate shots from distance from 3 players that probably didnt replicate them all season, Robbo makes a basic uncharacteristic error and nobody had their shooting boots on.  Typically the week after, we get the rub of the green with a bit of jammy last minute winner in a relatively meaningless game v Arsenal.

I vividly remember going to Middlesbrough that day and spitting fury when I heard the line up.  Diouff and Stelios on bench, Rasiak starting.  I remember one of our players injured Rasiak in an "accidental" collision.  I always thought that injury kept us up that season.  Turned into a very memorable away day, the club put free coaches on and we took about 3k instead of the usual 300.

Aye that’s right, Cohen got injured and Guthrie came on which put us on the front foot, that clash of heads was another piece of luck that day.

Don’t get me wrong, we would have lost anyway - as to a man, none of our team turned up, but it didn’t help.

I'm philosophical about the semi final at Wembley. Me and the kids had a great day out, the atmosphere was buzzing and it was all good until the match began but we were nowhere to be seen and everything that could go wrong did go wrong so I accepted it and moved on.

The final match of 2012 at the Britannia was a different story though and it still grates to this day. I was sat no more than a couple of yards behind Bogdan when he was shoved and it was as clear as daylight that Walters shouldered Boggers' arm whilst he was holding the ball. I'm not a spiteful person but I could have happily done something very unpleasant to Chris Foy that day.

And Crouch for diving. And Tim Ream for not scoring that header.

On that occasion we were the better team and deserved to win the game and stay in the Premiership.

I still think Bogdan was weak that day. Jussi wouldn't have been bullied off the ball.

Maybe, but it was a foul and should have been disallowed end of. Personally I don't think Boggers was at fault given the angle of JW's shoulder, but that shouldn't even be a discussion if Foy had seen what everyone else on the planet saw.

He didn't help himself by bringing in hos own Dingle coaches, the whole coaching set-up he had was fucking useless, i was surprised we lasted so long in the  'Barclays Premier League' under him, there were some cracking performances though, but ultimately over the long run, he did some damage.

He didn't do much when he moved on after us.

He did fuck all after us

Don’t like getting beat but millwall away was great the last game in charge for that clown
