Johnnyrotten
I dont think anyone's mentioned the PNE friendly in one of the early seasons at Reebok. Thunder and lightning and torrential rain, abandoned at half time. David Moyes was centre back for PNE. I worked with an ex copper who was a PNE fan and sat with him in the West Lower, the one and only time we met up at football. Frandsen scored for us and I think Jon Mackin for them. Mannyroader
Zenith game at the Reebok should have been called off in the 2nd half because of the torrential rain. Arshavin still ran rings round us, mind. Autumn 2005.

Any more detail, season/score etc? Very early 90s I think. 0-0 at half time and we defended well against a driving wind and rain and then they abandoned it😡

Johnnyrotten
No recollection of either game, but I recall a lot of other games around that time, some terrible results ending in relegation in the Aldershot play off.

Site Supporter FrancisFogarty Posted June 7, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted June 7, 2020 There was a reserve game fogged off just before kick off one time. It was against Stoke when Gordon Banks came back after the accident where he lost the sight in one eye. He was due to play but it didn't happen. I walked back to Farnworth and called in the Greyhound on Manchester Rd. That much I do remember. It was like the start of The Avengers (John Steed and Emma Peel, that one), when I walked through the doors. Just the landlord cleaning a glass with his pipe in his mouth. It was definitely a saturday afternoon game ( programme below on ebay shows ) and I can remember there being surprisingly large numbers of Stoke fans on the forecourt outside before it was eventually called off We should have played Burnley at home that day but that match was brought forward to the previous mid week because of world cup qualifiers - from memory I think Burnley had Brian Flynn playing for Wales at the time hence the postponement and the "free" saturday
