Couldn’t give a fuck about the club personally. But understand why the younger lot hate them. I grew up with the blackburn rivalry 20 or so years ago when we both went down and were challenging for promotion etc so they’re the ones for me

it’s the fans that are the irritants. Similar to bury. But bury are like a little annoying fly you’re happy to swat away. Wigan’s are like a yappy little mutt constantly biting at your ankles. Eventually you just smash it right in the fucking teeth

no matter how shit we are Bury are always worse and Wigan always try to be us. Bless em both

Normally you'd associate a local derby with the game that everyone wants a ticket for.  Spurs fans will do everything to not miss Arsenal home and away, likewise Sunderland v Newcastle, etc.  I dont have a great desire to go to a Bolton v Wigan game any more than any other game.  Next time we're in the championship I'll be looking forward to our derbies v PNE, Blackburn, hopefully Burnley.  I dont look forward to playing Wigan, I hope we pass them on the way up and they dont get to come here again, except for novelty value sometime.  They are like Tranmere in many ways, I dont want to see them.  I relish going to Ewood or Turf Moor and to a lesser extent Deepdale, they are the games you want on the fixture list.

The rules specify going in to admin before the four Thursday in March rather than a certain point of the season. Obviously they didn’t envisage the season extending in to July but if they get one of those lawyers who are experts at loopholes with speeding tickets etc and they might be on to summat.

And Barnsley drop in?

12.3.2 If a Group Undertaking of a Club becomes subject to or suffers an Insolvency Event, then the Board shall have the power to impose upon the Club a deduction of 12 points scored or to be scored in the League Competition.

12.3.3 Subject to the provisions of Regulation 12.3.4 below, where the Club becomes subject to or suffers an Insolvency Event, or the Board impose a deduction in accordance with Regulation 12.3.2:

(a) during the Normal Playing Season but prior to 5.00pm on the fourth Thursday in March, the points deduction shall apply immediately;

(b) during the Normal Playing Season but after 5.00pm on the fourth Thursday in March, Regulation 12.3.4 shall apply; and

(c) outside the Normal Playing Season, the points deduction shall apply in respect of the following Season such that the Club starts that Season on minus 12 points (including in the National League if appropriate).

12.3.4 Where the circumstances set out in Regulation 12.3.3(b) apply and at the end of that Season, having regard to the number of championship points awarded (ignoring any potential deduction):

(a) the Club would be relegated in accordance with Regulation 10.1.2(b) or 7.7, the points deduction will apply in the next following Season (including in the National League if appropriate); or

(b) the Club would not be relegated as aforesaid, the points deduction will apply in that Season and Regulation 10.1.2(b) or 7.7 will then apply (if appropriate) following imposition of the points deduction.

12.3.5 For the avoidance of doubt, where a Club and/or Group Undertaking is subject to more than one of the procedures in Regulation 12.3.1 above during a process of compromising creditors (for example Administration followed by a Company Voluntary Arrangement), the Club shall only be deducted one set of 12 points, such deduction to apply with effect from the first Insolvency Event.

ive cut a couple of unneccessaries out, but it looks like for once, the league have their ducks in order

Wiganmatt is clutching at non existent straws

In this case the 4th thursday is an irrelevance in any potential defence

It will be with the aim of taking the -12 next season rather than this one so might be kicking the can down the road to an extent, but the fact it refers specifically to March and not x point in the season surely means by pure pedantry that they have a case?

basically, it happened during the normal season and as it would relegate them, its applied in the current season if it will relegate

If not, its the next season

Pull the chain

Quite possibly then, but if they think they’ve got even a minor case then they’re going to give it a go, aren’t they?

no

If its pre 4th thursdy, its done in that season

No questions asked

If its after 4th thursday, its current season if it relegates, next if it doesnt or if youre down anyway

If they won the appeal on that basis wouldn't it mean that they get -12 next season instead?

As it’s an operational cost, the admin would make the final call wouldn’t they?

Yes which I think they’d be quite happy with to at least get another crack at it, especially as you’d fancy Wycombe to struggle

I think the point is that our club's history is determined by what it does itself, not by a local "rival" getting relegated.

Yes but don't underestimate the context provided by the fortunes of others.  When we were in Europe it felt like we were pioneers for clubs of our size and that definitely added to the special feeling at the time, compared to if Wigan or Burnley had got there before us.  And as bad as Newcastle have been for years, it would have been worse for them if Sunderland had been 1 place above.  if we're going to be crap it makes it slighly more palatable if others are suffering too, either in league position or financially.

Presumably you copied and pasted it from the rules, online somewhere? I expect the start of the online rulebook has the definitions in it. Or send me the link.
