Bottom - shame

Wigan's going down with a fiver in the bank

I obviously don't want to play them next season

But we need a cup tie at their place soonish, where we are allowed in

Bugger! I’ve been banned from Latics  Speyk.

I only pointed out that Wigan’s fall coincided with Bolton’s rise.

Theres a Bolton fan constantly on there offering seemingly genuine words of hope/consolation/encouragement etc, the Wigan fans seem genuinely shocked & bemused.

Agreed - we owe them big time for all their gloating and we need to do it before they are flushed away completely.

I did note that last night's glorious end to their losing streak (0-0 at home to Bristol Rovers) saw them settle in to rock bottom place in League 1. Despite their ascent in the 21st century they are being magnetically drawn back down to their level among the also-rans. The money has gone. Broken-leg is a spent force and the cavalry from abroad took a dislike to the meat and potato and constant entreaties to "believe". All that is left is the tinpot core.

Given that their whole reason for being seems to be to compare themselves with Bolton, events this Autumn must be haunting dear neighbours. Not only are they dropping like a stone but BWFC are showing distinct signs of life. Life that they thought had drained out of us.

Quality rises to the surface. The dregs sink to the bottom.

In the end there's nothing new under the sun.

According to Nixon a super rich British investor, Jonathan Rowland is poised to make a late bid to buy Wigan, he is supposed to be ready to fund the deal put together by Ray Ranson and Darren Royle

Excellent. Darren Royle found the super rich Chinese bloke as well.

Why would a super rich investor buy Wigan or any club at our levels etc as unless you fund it alway back to the premier league and even then it may cost more than you sell for.

Well he’s certainly not super rich, although his dads got a fair bit. This was the guy who set up a company called Jellyworks during the dot com era, got to be worth a ridiculous £300m then tanked to zero. He’s also had a few other similar mishaps and is now starting a Bitcoin bank, so that should tell you everything, another Mr Choi? Good luck to them if he’s involved.

The problem Wigan have here is the size of the club. For Bolton to regenerate under benign sensible owners the support base and club size means there's a great chance of a solid progress in the lower divisions. Its only once in the Championship that we start coming up against clubs our size or bigger week in week out. Without wealthy and very responsible backing we've seen what Wigan are. Remember the 80s and a lot of the 90s?

Tinpot.....

Meanwhile over on Laticsways they seem to think they’ve found the next Abramovich - “Mega rich Guernsey Tax Exile” one of them is spouting to the other 3 regular posters. Someone needs to let them know, bless 😂

The "Flushing of the turd" analogy used by many on this thread  seems to have been picked up by Lisa Nandy given the latest headline in the Wigan news

We need to 'unblock' this Wigan Athletic mess now, urges Lisa Nandy

The sun is also reporting that the Wigan Spanish takeover has stalled

"Lisa Nandy" and "Turd" in the same sentence. It's happened before & doubtless will again.

Her solution to all this is to make it a "people's club", run by the fans, for the fans. Well, those may make interesting headlines, but they're bullshit.

It's guarenteed to make whatever survives a basket case and they'd be lucky to stay alive in the Conference. (Which, don't get me wrong, would be a good thing ... if they have to survive at all).

Its a long hard bleak winter ahead in Wigan. The prospect of being marooned at the bottom of League one matched only by the fact that the Spanish saviours whose appearance made them do nasty things in to their Lonsdales have proved not quite to be the real deal.

The whole thing was always built on quicksand. Broken-leg funded the lot from the late 90s. Once he'd gone they needed someone similar and the one they thought they'd found proved not to give a fuck about Wigan once push came to shove.

The whole set up is hot air, piss and wind. This is the epitome of a tinpot football club and the plunge back to that reality has been a very pleasant distraction in this difficult year of 2020.

When the financial and ownership trouble hit us what was left in the end was a proper football club with a fanbase and a pedigree of tier 1 and 2 football. We attracted responsible owners who wanted to build on that foundation with a sustainable and sensible plan. What's left at Wigan? Non-league foundations and lower league scrapings. Rotten, tinpot, nothingness.
