Re your other War and Peace post fella.....Wade was a leading BLM activist and co founder of Operation Help and Hush....no doubt not an ordinary supporter , though he did want something hushed up 😉

Same with Sasha Johnson, a very prominent leader of the Oxford lot.

It's irrelevant - plenty of folk high up in political parties and other organisations have been involved in dodgy shit and said offensive things. BLM doesn't hold a monopoly on this.

if you can't find anything positive then it's pointless pal - we might as well leave it there. Plenty down to earth folk who would have attended those protests here and in the US who are making a difference in their community.

If we don't want the demands and views of BLM gaining traction then let's actually address the problem in a meaningful way. Pretending systemic racism doesn't exist here or in the US won't do anyone any favours.

He was that character off Corrie, tied himself and thowd Emily Bishop to a tree in protest over something or other 😁

In all fairness you make some valid points about there being idiots across all parties and movements, unfortunately for BLM it seems those who run it, are all loons!

Mind you, some might say (sorry to quote Oasis), there's a loon running our country.

But yes, i would be more than happy to have a pint with you at an away game, we may not agree on everything, but Bolton Wanderers and its future we most certainly do 👍

👍

Quit the patronising bullshit. This isn't a racist country.

Regarding Swampy, yes, it was the Newbury By-pass and his actions to prevent its progress made him fairly newsworthy. Problem was, years later he appeared in Manchester to protest about the building of Runway2. Swampy was by now identified as a waster who had become a professional anti-progress kind of guy.

Copied from an American friend's Facebook page. Here he explains all the great reasons for joining a BLM demo...

Bless their little hearts but what they don't understand is this is not about Black Lives Matter. It's about -  Rioting as an Extreme Sport - Do you want to get in on the newest craze? Sure you do. Here is what you have to do to get that adrenaline rush. Don't believe me? Try it. First, it helps to have the uniform most other young people do. Dress in all black - pants, hoodie, mask, helmet, and wear some comfortable shoes for running. When you get to the playing field, or arena if you prefer, you join in some chants that a few people have made up; usually three easy words. Then there is assorted yelling throughout the night. You can make up your own epithets or use the ones other people are using, p. s. bring some water because your throat will get sore. Now we are ready to begin the fun which you have been looking forward to in gleeful anticipation because this is where the big adrenaline rushes come in. First, you must bait the other side to provoke a reaction. This will take more than mere taunting so some of you need to throw bottles hoping to hit someone on the other side and while it won't hurt them much, it makes them very angry. Several of you have thoughtfully brought along some fireworks to lob over the fences or right into the midst of the enemy. Now comes the announcement over a bullhorn which can be heard for several blocks - "This has been declared an unlawful assembly. Please leave the area." That's the starting point, the code for "Let the games begin!"  After about 15 minutes when they see you are not going to obey them, tear-gas gets flung into the crowd. Now aren't you glad you wore your running shoes though you won't have to run more than half a block to get away from it. Repeat. For those that do get a good dose of tear gas you can brag about it later - "Man, my eyes were burning for 10 minutes. I had to pour water in them," and aren't you glad you came to the games prepared with your water bottle? A few lucky ones get hit by rubber bullets  - "Man I got a good one in the thigh. It's all black and blue now and see where it broke the skin?" Later you can get out a sharpie, circle it and point and arrow towards the hole. This red badge of courage is reserved for only a lucky few who can forever boast about their scars from the war. Next, keep this up for as long as possible. Now comes the announcement for Phase Two of the games. "This has been declared a riot!" Yay, we did it! That's a battle cry, a gantlet thrown down so now you are whipped up into a frenzy and quite smug about proudly achieving riot status. About four hours seems to be the prescribed time for this phase as you get chased from street to street, dodge the flash bombs, pepper spray and stun grenades. Now you are having some major fun and the adrenaline of the excitement mixed with a little fear has got you pumped up. There's still a big crowd out at 2 am so don't worry about losing your ticket to belonging to something, whatever it is. This is when, under cover of the mob, some people pull out hammers and iron pipes that they have thoughtfully brought along to smash all the windows they find. A few of the more creative types have packed some spray paint to mark their conquered territory. If there is nothing assigned for you to do, you can drag newspaper boxes into the middle of the street or set recycling bins on fire with some accelerant someone has conveniently brought with them. If you're lucky you can smash a car window and steal something but if not, you can still feel macho by ripping plants out of flower boxes. About now you're tired and ready to go home but it's a good tired. You've done your job and vanquished a worthy foe. Make sure you sleep in late because 54 nights of this can wear you out a bit and there may be 54 more nights left to come of...

Aye, so if you're a tapped BLM extremist and your fellow blacks don't agree with you, you're a "coon" as you must be on the other side

Mental isn’t it. Also first time I’ve actually ever heard of it’s origin/actual meaning.

interesting that they feel they need to have a specific derogatory term for it and more so that whites picked it up and used it without a real understanding, although not surprising.

I didn't say it was....

This article has some decent examples of what the definition applies to - https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theatlantic.com/amp/article/613324/

I used the word systemic racism in the last post... You can find it everywhere in America - we've got much better - but still work to do.

I really don’t think there is.

The problem is that it almost doesn't matter how much work is done to combat racism - it's never ever going to be enough for people who set out their stall to manufacture it. The ranks of the perpetually offended and the militant liberals.

The damage that's been done in tackling racism is in the hectoring, lecturing manner of the above. Reasonable people who do not have a racist bone in their bodies get annoyed and frustrated with it. We don't need to be repeatedly told what to think (please take note BBC).

Fair enough... Lots of people don't. But recent protests have opened up the discussion.

I just think prejudice manifests in different ways & it can take decades to wean it out of institutions. Even if the people within those institutions aren't racist.

The American prison system is a fairly brutal example.

But we aren’t in America. America have a huge massive issue. We seemingly don’t.

But we openly trade with companies who exploit & profit from their prison system....

& I disagree that we have no issues here. It's just not on the same scale as the U.S.

But it's better being heard by folk who've experienced it - rather than it coming from people like me. Folk like Akala are well worth a watch or read. But I've said that before.
