What do visiting managers say to their players just before sending their players out? "These blokes think they are Barcelona with their swanky stadium and tippy tappy building form the back... ta

This is probably the first time since BSA left that I've not had that unrealistic desire in the back of my mind, wishing that we still had Allardyce managing us. Disclaimer: I'm not saying Evatt

I think fonz did well in his deeper role.

Found some space, showed for the ball, and drove at opponents. Very positive.

But should have scored twice.

Good window

Time to do the bizzo now IE

Very good window

With the latest signings and Lee & John last month I’d say there’s more pressure on him to finish in the top 7 now, think all this mid table building has gone now

In terms of this seasons ambitions I’d say it’s the last throw of the dice to try and make a surge to the play-off positions. Realistically the mid-table finish is still the much safer bet.

If the start of the season taught us anything it’s that over-hype of promotion talk and the expectation of the best players all wanting to play BWFC was exaggerated.

Furthermore the blending of new players, systems, tactics and building that team ethic won’t just happen overnight.

I’m not saying that yesterday didn’t feel exciting with potential and hope that we are bringing in the right quality of players. But the realistic perspective is that all these players weren’t playing regular first team football, they were allowed to leave for whatever reason.

The best scenario is that we had already started to turn a corner with our current squad and that a smattering of these new players will provide the vital cogs to add the quality needed for a promotion push, but this is more in hope than expectation.

Rightly so too. Still only 9 points of play offs after the season we’ve had shows it’s a poor, inconsistent league.

We seem to have had a good window. Time for a Riochesque 1993 charge. Was that something like 15 3 1 in our last 19 games?

Something like W12 D5 L4 would have us thereabouts, but still might not be enough to make the play offs, but at least it would give us something to build on for next season. Home form needs to improve drastically.

That would give us 72 pts, imo that would be enough in such a tight league.

We qualified for the playoffs one year on 69. Remember Notts County being miffed even being on the same pitch as us having accrued 87 I think.

In saying that, just pro-rata'd Newport's points from 7th placr and they get 77. So what the fuck do I know.

I'm assuming It's still the aim, as I'm assuming the ambition is what will have convinced some of these players to come

IE will have sold the idea of promotion to both the players and FV I'd have thought/hoped

Evatt did actually speak at yesterday afternoons press conference on targets for the rest of the season - it got buried in the transfer news but Marc Iles did report it in his live updates...

We obviously need to go on a serious run of form now. I think we have 21 games left and to get where we want to go we'll probably need 15 wins to be in the mix. Are we capable? Yes. But it needs to happen now

Oh and @Horwicheven I will concede we wont be getting relegated if he gets half of the 45 points target he is  setting himself ☺️

Whilst yesterday’s signings seem impressive, did we actually recruit what everybody considered we needed. We didn’t get a physical Centre forward to hold the ball up, we didn’t get a strong defensive midfielder, we didn’t get an experienced commanding Centre Half and we didn’t get an experienced keeper. I’m not trying to be negative on the window signings but I’m glad they’re mainly on loan because until we can pay to sign exactly the players we need in the summer I don’t think we’ll set the world alight and we just have to be honest about where we are just now.

Isn't the lad from Blackpool a centre back / defensive midfielder?

whats the west ham mon?

Striker?

Anyway, with all the attacking midfielders, wingers and variety of strikers, I'm not sure a big mon up front is overly necessary, and it certainly doesn't seem to fit with IE's principles.

FFS let's not revive all that misguided promotion talk because we've signed some players few of us had previously heard of. We did that in September, and we're now sat in 19th. A mid-table finish would be a great outcome. Top 7 is an absolute pipe dream.

Agreed.  Just to see us win some games would be fantastic, its not all about league position (as long as we're safe) I just want to enjoy watching us play again.

Re latest new signings, barring Maddison none of us have heard of any of them never mind seen them play, the jury's out.  Great to get real GK cover but in terms of improving the first XI is he likely to be better than Gilks?

The West Ham kid doesn't score many (1 in 16 for Oldham/Mansfield and a few for Solihull) so is probably an alternative to Arthur, who deserves a run.

It will be interesting to see how Williams fits in as we seem to have a lot of options in his position(s) - he will have to be good to be an improvement, so let's see how IE uses him.

Of the recent signings that have come in , the left back Jackson , looks a really good player. Comfortable in the ball, quick , defends well and gets forward too. Not sure if Declan John could play further forward but I'd be surprised if Jackson got dropped.

Absolutely.

Deserves to keep his place.

Tell Evatt to pipe down then, reckons we're capable (see a few posts above)

I agree, we're capable, but if we don't make it then won't be too down (unless it's very close)

What is more important is if this current squad does look the part and capable, that we can keep it together for next season

I prefer ambition than settling for mid-table security, we are Bolton Wanderers in the 4th tier of English football, the biggest club by far in this shit division, I don't wanna hear Evatt being negative and I'm all for being realistic, the players we've signed in this window are a cut above what we signed at the beginning of the season.

It's a shit division, a good 2nd half to the season should be good enough to at least get us in the play-offs.

Apart from a goalkeeper,, a defensive midfielder,  a striker and a new attacking midfielder to replace the failed Crawford route we got absolutely no one we needed. Oh and possibly a new centre half as well.
