4 Lane ends consists of 2 pubs, Hulton Arms and the Red lion. Red Lion is a greene king restaurant wacky warehouse type place not a pub. I've not been in either since the lockdown. Trouble is they are walk/staggerable from my house as opposed to taxi to Atherton or Westhoughton. Nowt else nearby.

Did you ever go in the Wrecker in Blackley on Vicky Ave ?

Ron Lampton... Tonge Moor lads set him up one night as he had a habit of putting the boot in out back when his henchmen were twatting someone, they started a ruck near the back & when the bouncers charged around & left Ron on his own some of their mates gave him a good hiding 😁

That name rings a bell - probably due to the fact that he was always trying to get himself in the B.E.N for a bit of self promotion. I think he might have run the Royal Oak in Bradshaw for a while. I also seem to  remember he was a bit of a tvvat.

I was courting with a girl from White Moss for a spell and the pub had live crocodiles in a tank.

A good Tetley Bitter was very good indeed.

Think it was made in Warrington, there was also a Yorkshire version which they preferred but then they would wouldn't they?.

They were reet. I worked in Huddersfield for a while and the Tetley bitter I drank at the Red Lion in Lockwood was quite probably the best pint of bitter I ever drank. Creamy nectar.

Same pint was generally fucking shite west of the Pennines. The Yorkies used to tell me that theirs was made from purified River Aire water and the shite we got was from Sellafield contaminated water. Don't know how much truth there was in that but there was no doubting the difference in quality of the pints.

Church inn on Wigan rd next to moony's petrol station was a good pint of Tetley.

Opposite the prince Bill near to Yates used to be called Gaitey about 1980.

Sold vaux beers from Sunderland, very rare in the north west but a crackin bitter in there. Can't remember much about the pub though, think it had an upstairs too.

Vaux did a beer called Samson Bitter. It was one of those that was hit and miss. A couple of Pubs in Bishop Auckland and the same near Roker Park served a fantastic pint. In other Pubs within a 5 minute walk it was shit. Definately one of the Beers that required a Landlord who new how to look after it. There was a Pub in Oakham near where Iwas based in the RAF that did a really great john Smiths Bitter. Might have been called Magnet.

Magnet is usually sold in places where there are steelworks, Sheffield,  Middlesbrough,  Scunthorpe etc. Its 1 % stronger than normal John Smith's I think. Remember supping it with Zozzy one Middlesbrough away day. Suffice it to say he fucked the game off and was poured back into the van afterwards...

When I was at RAF Cosford during trade training the NAAFI used to have Tartan and McEwans Export on Draught. Both were absolute shit. Just down the road in Albrighton the local was a Springfield Brewery pub. I can't remember the name of the particular Bitter, but it was super smooth. The first pint normally lasted about 5 seconds.

Later in my time in the RAF I am ashamed to admit I drank a shit load of Fosters lager crap just to get a load of free t-shirts with stupid slogans on them.

That bitter in the Stags was crap , bit like the Wilsons in Queen Ann next door

early 80s they used to keep a barrel of scrumpy on the bar top in the Stags , used to drink it mixed with the guiness,

beautiful and a proper stagger home after

Lets ask this here

4 pints of 6 percent or 6 pints of 4 percent

Same person, same time frame

Would the effect of the alcohol be the same

By my maths they should be exactly the same in terms of amount of alcohol consumed

Yeah that Wilson's was awful in the queen Ann.

Must have had lager in there i think, they used to do a variation on a stronger continental lager but it wasn't Stella, not many people had it.

Come to think it was quite a shit pub. Awkward shape too.

No don't think so

I'll try and find the article but read about this a while back and you consume more alcohol the stronger the drink is and this doesn't balance out in the way you suggest - you'll be "more pissed" on the 6% stuff

Another pub i never fancied and where I expect they say, bit shit but salt of the earth folk

Which generally means you're never more than an hour from a fight or 10 yards from a wrong un. ;)

We are talking nearly 40 years ago - It was OK in the tap room, Darts, Dominoes & Don schools. Became my local after the Radcliffe Borough social club got closed down for under age drinking.

if you break your seal you will be pissing the 6 pints out faster so the Alcohol

will not have time to kick in
