Dr Faustus
I've mentioned this before, my dad was dyed in the wool utd fan. born and bred in odsall, era of the babes, cousin won the league in the 50s etc. he was so sick of hooliganism he refused to take me to football in the 80s. despite having shirts etc up to 85, i was always a wum so cheered for whoever they were playing, and followed the dippers. my mates dad took us to burnden, without my dad knowing- robbing him of an once in a lifetime opportunity. i am equally gutted and chuffed about that... this influenced me, but it wasnt until i jumped on a 36 with a couple of mates when i was 13. preston, 1-0, pitch invasion, dancing on the town hall steps... magical. i was bitten by the cruellest and most addictive drug; its venom seeped into my veins and 30 years later i am still hooked. yet it couldve been so different- this is why i took mine at the earliest opportunity
Members bolty58
I know I am preaching to the converted and this is not exactly in tune with the thread title. Just back from my hairdressers. Alejandro from Valencia (Balencia). During the chit chat I just mentioned being surprised that David Silva hadn't returned to Valencia and chose Sociedad instead. Stopped him in his tracks. He went all dreamy eyed and said words along the lines of "the team with him, Mata and David Villa was the best I ever saw at the Mestalla'. I swear he started to tear up. I brought him back to earth with "Yes, I completely understand. A bit like my club when we had John Byrom, Roy Greaves and John Ritson". Teary eyes replaced by puzzled expression but he got my drift. Football - the greatest sport ever and an international language.
Domcarey1
My boy sat on the end of his bed as a 7 year old & told me that 2 of his best mates were going to Old Trafford for a game & he was invited. Within a few weeks he had his 1st Wanderers season ticket, full kit & was the mascot v Real Betis in a pre season friendly (around 2013) A defining moment for me & my son.......he’s now a dyed in the wool wanderer & nothing makes me happier....
