Can’t see the win bonus being anywhere near the 54k  game we received for the Colchester game from ifollow .
But the main point was what Radcliffe white said people on DD could cancel  and that would be a big hit on the club financially . Hopefully it will not  come to that but we need a win quick

Agreed if people start cancelling D/Ds it will be disastrous.  That's a major problem for the EFL not just us, even if we start winning most weeks fans are going to get pissed off with i-follow instead of the prospect of live football.  My neighbours have been S/T holders even longer than me and they go to games at the weekend, they wouldn't know i-follow if it hit them over the head.  I'm sure they wouldn't cancel but they are paying out and getting absolutely nothing in return, how many will put up with that for 8 months.  PS I think the Colchester game was £14k not 54.

Cheers mate. Gonna go to Rammy Utd though. I’ve not got it in me to travel to Donny next week, I’m not feeling it

I must admit, the one bonus of not being allowed to go to away games is not having to make that choice to watch this team currently.  And I'm relieved their won't be nastiness in the air at Doncaster should we lose next week, that's one match we don't need some of our lot attending until things are looking more positive.

He must see something in training to think yeah they can do it. I don’t think he’ll abandon this philosophy but it needs tweaking especially at the back, but we also need to make it stop up top, so if we go direct Doyle can bring midfielders into it.

Second balls just aren’t won up top, but that’s fitness and sharpness. I’d be getting them to increase their fitness and make us fitter than other teams, and just press teams to get the ball back and don’t let them have a minute.
We need to do The ugly things best first.

You still need good players to press high up the pitch.  At the moment Comley hasnt shown an ability to tackle, so its often a free kick when he challenges and he's been booked in both home games, he'll get 2 yellows in a game before long.  White is powder puff, on the ball and off it.  A non league player if ever I saw one.  If we press too high we'll just be even more exposed when they go through us, our opponents will waltz through our midfield.  To think people thought Lowe wasn't upto playing for Evatt.  He's in the same division as us and looks about 2 divisions better, faster, sharper than Comley and White.

I'd go back to basics if I was IE. Getting a clean sheet would get confidence up and at least a point on the board. I'd play percentages at the back and launch it into the channels when they can. I'd go with 4,2,3,1 formation. Two defensive midfielders protecting the back four. The 3 up front would be Crawford and new guy running the channels and Darcy behind the Fonz.

Their 2 goals yesterday and the one that hit the post in the 1st half when it looked easier to score - no formation is preventing those situations.  One of many corners where a player isn't marked, using 2 DMs or 4 or 5 at back makes no difference.

If their left back beats our right back and gets a shot in that the keeper parries to their striker, again its not about formations, its just better players.  If their midfielder gets the better of our 2 on the edge of the box and has a half decent shot that the keeper parries to their striker...again, how are you going to stop that for 90 minutes whatever formation you play.  We look so far from getting a clean sheet and we haven't even had a game yet where the opponents have needed to go looking for a goal in the last half hour.

Second goal, surely when jones get beaten there should be somebody else behind him

Then, theres no shot for crellin to deal with

Both goals similar, he’s got to be holding on to those 2 shots, you’ll see massive difference if gilks is fit enough to start. Won’t see Crellin again.

I don't think it's about budgets - we intend to max out the salary cap, don't we?

But we didn't need to have marquee, just competent. It's clear that we signed so many centre-backs because we intended to play with the now abandoned back three. Maybe we knew we couldn't afford five or six good centre-backs, but we also seem to have recruited them to a specific criteria: tall, with the ability to bring it forward on the overlap. Defensive ability seems to have been a secondary consideration. Some of them just appear to be overly statistics-based signings, and I'm beginning to think we've got that approach wrong, or been overly reliant on it in a pivotal area of the pitch.

In my view a quality centre back is essential , either part of a 2 or 3  at the back , I remember us years ago shipping goals with decent defenders , they bought Jon Newsome in on loan and he immediately shored up the defence , I don't think we hardly conceded a goal iirc.

Regarding budget , early in the window the big fish get snapped up because they can name their fee (Doyle ,Sav ,Delf ) likewise the below average mob can get picked up for bobbins ( our defence+ Others), that leaves your competent/Average players who tend to be able to hang on all summer for the best deal they can get , we decided I imagine to wrap up business early because of the salary cap brought in 6 weeks ago , it probably meant the Average players were out of our price range at that point hence the below par recruits.

We could sign a prime John Terry, but if he's playing alongside Santos we'd still ship goals.

Perhaps , but what he would bring is leadership , organisation and the ability good players have of lifting all those around them to raise their game .

Santos while looking the worst is certainly not on his own in the poor defending stakes.

At this level that player is Wheater, we currently have no "captain" and he would provide that whether he's having a good game or not.  Even without pace he'd be more effective at clearing the ball than the current selected players.

I'd try for Kean Bryan on loan too, he could play at centre back or DM in his sleep in this league.

Your spot on , all it needs is an old(ish) head or someone whose been there and  done it , I'd say it's almost a necessity when you are trying to piece a new team together quickly .

Maybe most of the players we’ve got in are just stop gap for this season under embargo . Hopfully we survive this season and then it’s time for our owners to finance a rebuild with the best players left .otherwise what’s the point of buying  the club in the first place ?

I think quite a few of our signings signed 2 year deals like Santos and Comley, which is worrying.

It could well be ,  after all with his experience this league should be second nature to him . Sadly he never was and never will be a commanding organizer of a back line , in fact he looked as out of his depth as the rest.  But I suppose he does fit the experience criteria if not the old(ish) part.

Within the next few weeks, Delaney, Tutte, Sarcevic and the winger (forget his name) will be in replacing Santos, White, Hickman and Comley. That will give us miles more league experience.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sarcevic injury is to get him fitter away from the spotlight - same with Miller and to a lesser extent, Tutte

Now your talking, this season ain’t over yet, get settled team and formation and we could fire up this league in no time.

Just my opinion but I think he'll drop Crawford before Comley, I reckon Crawford has just deputised for Sarcevic these last 2 games, he isn't in IEs first choice midfield. The new winger will replace Hickman and with Darcy out of the picture I agree Tutte will probably replace White (2 games too late).  I think he'll stick with Santos too.  Overall I don't see it being a stronger line up any time soon.

Queens Birthday long weekend over here so I have been out of contact doing a section of the Bibbulmun Track.

Had one eye closed and the other marginally open searching for the score when I go home. It has to turn round some time surely.

Thank fuck the Packers won.
