I went that game in 79, it cost us a fortune to stage, but for the love of me, i can't recall the reason. Will have to dig out the programme.

Would that be our very first European game? Perhaps trumping the Anglo-Italian games?

Remember going to old Trafford when Whatmore & Worthington both were at Birmingham city.

Can't remember the score, might have been a bore draw, think worthy got injured early on and Nellie didn't even get on the pitch.

However, a quick glance around the Stretford end and you could clock loads of White's giving each other a cheeky insider sign.

One of Best bits of TV in the early 80s was Friday night kick off with elton welsby (homosexual) .

Was when Whatmore & Worthington were both at brum, they were playing utd the following day.

Kick off closed the show with clips of loads of their goals to the sound track of " boys are back in town".

TV gold, searched high & low for footage of that.

I was on the scoreboard end that day, saw Dennis from L/H, Frankie scored a pen to make 1-1

A sudden memory following the Anglo-Scottish Cup games topic.

Why did we play Ajax I guess late 70s?

I wasn't a BWFC convert at that time, I was just a football fan, and the neighbours asked me about 6pm did I fancy going to watch Ajax?  I'm fairly sure nobody's said that to me since, and nobody ever will again. 13th Aug 1979.  I remember it absolutely lashing down, there was about 7,000 on, glamorous it wasnt.  Lost 3-1 I think.  Soren Lerby played for them, what a player.  Also Frank Arnesen and Ruud Krol.

Did a bit of research on these 3

Masefield..brummie, played lots of games on the continent.

Metgod..yes, its the metgod

Wheatcroft...coaching down south. He played for haarlem in 81, with Gullit no less

It's not Johnny Metgod. It's his brother Edward.

We also played Sparta Rotterdam that season, won 2-1 .
