I have been managing construction sites for almost 40 years.

My mantra to the foremen coming up behind me  (based on a couple of smacks in the gob in my early days) is that you must never rob anybody of their dignity.

This week I have had a big run in with a joinery contractor but although he might suspect this, my site foreman knows nothing of the nitty gritty and he never will... it was between the contractor and me and we have sorted it out and we are both happy to work together again.

No one needs to know exactly what has gone down behind closed doors. We can both still stand proud.

Honeymoon period is over perhaps the size of the job is kicking in with IE now

i certainly don’t think having crowds would’ve made any difference so on that respect he’s got it good atm

I think it wouldve changed a few things away from home. Packed away end, all backing the team. Would've deffo given us the impetus.

At home a totally different kettle of fish.

Wed be on Baptiste getting booed on every touch and ironic cheers for crellin catching a ball by now.

Ian Evatt has decided to keep playing a young inexperienced goalie who is not even our player !. If he has a problem with him,it’s his fault . Where does Alexandra figure in all this? From what I can remember of him he would be just as good if not better than Crellin and he’s our player . Where is Alexandra getting his game time from ?

Disagree on barrow

We were even the dominant team in the first 25 minutes

Anyway, i doubt hes under any pressure anyway

I just mean that the game/result wasnt a positive for Evatt overall, I can't see any game where we've conceded 3 terrible goals in half an hour as being a positive, unless we storm back to win with a great last hour.  Fans on here were very critical of the 2nd half efforts to equalise but the rescued point at the death prevented the game being a negative.  At Cambridge we were the better team so even though it was only a draw, definitely a tick in the positive column.  But I agree he's not really under big pressure, other than normal pressure for a manager in the bottom end of a division.  Like any of them he needs to put 2 or 3 good performances together and at the moment step one has been achieved (in my opinion).

The guy has played one league game for us, one great match in our history but an absolute freak of a game we would have lost 99 other times out of 100. And hes 2 years younger than Crellin. So if we chuck him in and he fucks up, what then?

I'm hoping that as far as the club and most importantly Crellin is concerned, it's done with now following Evatts explanation today and we move on.

Unless he clotheslines Bradford's first cross on Tuesday into the top corner then I'll probably hear the screaming from here.

As far as the talk on Crellin goes, that should be it now, done, dusted, move on. Good post

That's a very valid point indeed haha

Always think of that 0-0 at preston when every man and his dog went under freedman. Place wouldve erupted if we scored. Instead we were kicking balls out for throw ins as we had nobody forward :(

Was that the Saturday night game, first time we'd played Preston away for donkeys years? Some proper states there.

Long day that, think it was Halloween IIRC. Finished up with DG dancing around a pub in Adlington in his pink polo shirt after about 15 hours drinking 😀

Yeah was on telly. It was like a whos who of not rights. Everyone smashed and bang up for it.

Full blown riot at the station.

That's the one. When Blackpool were coming back through at the same time as we were leaving. Sure we drew 0-0 away with them the next time too and again it was full of completely battered lads.

Just checked it was a Friday night. Friday and Saturday night fixtures at Preston who's bright idea was that 🤣

If I was Barton, I personally would keep things as they are. He’s here to learn; getting some harsh treatment at this age might work, depending on how he reacts.

I’d agree for the most part. I was also thinking that you’d have had outraged fans on the pitch at 2-0 against Barrow.

Evatt was right to call out Crellin. He has every right to be fuming after our best performance all season and to be let down by such a simple mistake is infuriating. I think Evatt is feeling the pressure, maybe not so much from the board, but from himself. He'll know the longer this goes on without getting on a good run, the harder the promotion task will be.

I don't buy into this "should be all done behind closed doors". In a normal business sure thing, but the GK position is the most scrutinised position in football and if it's not Evatt scrutinising, everyone will be on social media and there's no escaping it. Doesn't mean it's right and I would certainly be hurt if I was called out by the manager in the local press but I also think it would make me want to prove Evatt wrong and be better.

Crellin has to be honest with himself and take responsibility if he is going to succeed as a goalie. You have to make mistakes and fail and push through it and work hard, that is the elite mentality and not everyone will have it. Getting stick from the fans is one thing but when the manager is saying it too, you know you need to step up. As others have mentioned Alexander is even less experienced and Gilks seems more of an emergency option. There is no time to wait, Crellin has to do better and quick because until January we're stuck with him, I think Evatt has gone as far as he can with him now, can't escalate it any further.

Having said that, I do think Evatt should've said it more sensitively and is in the wrong for how he said it, rather than what he said. However, he's apologised for his poor word choice and that should be that. He's said things in the heat of the moment a few times already then had to change his tune and he needs to think more carefully in future. 1. The offside call from the other game "not in the same postcode", the player was actually onside. 2. Saying "that wasn't my team...disgusted by the performance", when he's signed them all and then said the next day "we actually did deserve something." And now the poor word choice.

Football is a team game and it's not fair to lump the blame on individuals all the time but Crellin's made his fair share of errors already and has escaped blame from the manager until now - it was time for something to be said.

Evatt and Crellin will both learn from this and it's a good lesson to learn even if it's not a nice one. Move on and get better. COYW.

Nicely put. Halfway to Sluffytown, but I agree with you.

Correct - that seems to happen nearly all the time - the bigger the following, the more often we get let down

We went about 2 years without winning a game where we took more than about 1500 to a game a few years back and we cant say its been much different in last 10 years or so, we rarely get that plumb away day of big following, big win.  Port Vale was an exception and even that was flattened by Fleetwood's result!  The worst was Oldham when they were near the bottom, had 10 men and still beat us.  Howard kept kicking the ball into touch and couldn't get it over the halfway line, as bad a Bolton game as I can remember taking everything into account.

I was giving an Oldham a lift home from that game. Even had to go through the pre agreed couple of pints stop off on way back.
He texted me last Saturday after game to see if we were meeting up again.
