No wonder anyone under 25 thinks our current predicament is a blip. They grew up watching a fantastic team. Pity the poor kids who start watching now.

Lads like @barrycowdrill lad have had it tougher than anyone. Imagine being 18, all theyve ever seen is total shite bar one season that we nearly fucked up and the football was dross. And forest.

A full childhood of utter fucking crap, soulless empty home game and continually let down on big aways. Not a cup run or giantkilling in sight.

Fuck me.

Aye, but if they did Port Vale & Albion, they'd be hooked & waiting for the next one...

edit - like we all are.

Indeed, but christ, 2-3 stand out games in the whole of your childhood. Jesus wept.

Who are they gonna look back on think he was my hero and had the players name on the back of their shirts?

Bloody awful.

Lads first game was 5-0 v Stoke, day before his second birthday. Those halcyon days in a Reebok kit are just force fed clips

He loves football in general though, and I've taken him across the country watching it: not to mention playing, and just studying the game.

Ask him his favourite moment and I know he'll say Willbrahimovic... as he hasn't seen such riches he can live with being poor.

4-2 at Leeds 18 years ago today btw

Mine too. Then 13 and 11.

The 80s and teenies decades are the worst and pretty comparable, a decline to almost obscurity.

Mind you I argue that I had it worse. Started in 82. The large majority of the rest of that decade was absolute shite. Shite Crowds, shite football, with no kudos whatsoever for being a Bolton fan.

As bad as their generation has had it, the crowds have remained remarkably loyal, they’ve had a couple of seasons of last day heroics on the pitch and it’s remained a popular choice within the town to be a local Bolton fan.

By Christ I’d love it for them to have a decade like we did in the 90s, rise of the Phoenix.....

Met an old Port Vale mate today at my Auntie's funeral, he came up a few times in the 80s when we played each other and came to a few wanderers games at Chester and Macc, when Chester played on that ground. Said he packed in watching football years ago and no interest. I said Bolton are in the same division as Vale now. The look of astonishment on his face was a sight to behold.

I was at that game in the executive area of the stand (padded seat section) surrounded by Leeds (posh) fans and they weren’t impressed at my celebrations after each goal. One fan even had the nerve to throw a rolled up serviette at me - what an absolute bounder!

Good day out though, all free and I got merrily pissed at the expense of a supplier 🤪

Love stuff like this. I was escorted out of a Southampton bit like that as I kept  celebrating when we scored. A few complaints and they walked me along the pitch side and I was applauded by our fans on entrance to our end.

Felt like I was in my own football factory minus some key ingredients:

Being remotely hard

Any violence whatsoever
