Site Supporter Spider Posted November 25, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted November 25, 2020 (edited) Got some misting/condensation between a couple of my windows. Can I just get one of the panes (internal?) replaced rather than the whole lot? Anyone any idea how much it’ll cost? The panes are about 3ftx2ft each I’ll give reacharounds for low prices. Double-glazed units are sealed (until they break down, like yours has). You can't just replace one pane.

Time was, I’d have hit that link without thinking. Now, I’m not sure.
Site Supporter MickyD Posted November 25, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted November 25, 2020 Measure the visible glass from beading to beading. It won’t be the right size but enough for a price. Also, anything lower than 800mm from floor needs to be toughened. He’d need to know that too.

Dead easy to replace them. You don't have to change the frame or anything. Just the glass. You just remove the bead and pop the glass out. Even easier to replace than a single-glazed window, as you don't have to fuck about with putty. (I used to work for my uncle during school holidays fitting double-glazing for SafeStyleUK. That was over 20 years ago though, so don't trust a word I've said) Edited November 25, 2020 by Cheese
Not in Crawley
Any good advice for drafts coming from wunder window frames. Living room is on the secodn floor of a townhouse so gets a nasty draft. Cheap advice on seals needed.

Go to a glass company and have replacements made up (sometimes they can do it while you wait) and replace the failed units. I would be amazed if a 900 x 600 costs more than £40. Use a rubber mallet to tap the bead back in place 🙂 I got some replacement units free of charge this year but I am in the trade so to speak, took me all of 10 minutes to replace the units! You Tube has some how to clips...
Site Supporter superjohnmcginlay Posted November 25, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted November 25, 2020 Standard units will be about 30 quid for that size I reckon. anything more specialised like toughened and soft coat glass and warm edge spacer bars will add to costs As mentioned, if your are ok at DIY it’s easy enough to to fit, pop the beads off and the clip back in. Just need to determine what your unit size is, typically 28mm in UPVC but that does vary from system to system.

I like glass chat.

I know, for a fact, that if I attempt to remove 2 panes of 3x2ft glass from my main front window, that my house will fall down. My skills lie elsewhere. The only delicate work my hands were made for involve breasts.

Or skilfully drill a hole in each corner to allow the air to flow around the unit and clear the condensation. Probably. Then rub it with a bloon and throw yourself down the stairs. Or something.
