Aquarius omg YES.

It was very much like a real life Phoenix club.

Some great nights in there, yes the beer was awful slalom lager i think, it got a bit of a makeover early 80s when a manc bought it but the same clientele .

Remember Jack & Vera Duckworth judging a talent night in there and some very leary Christmas dos.

Stones bitter

Rotating dance floor? I've had some messy times in there 😂😂😂

Thats the one. Although the best club nights were when it wasnt spinning.

The names they pulled there is quite astonishing looking back, armin van buren, above and beyond etc. Talking world stars. Madness it was on my doorstep.

@Escobarp I just missed out in sequins mate. Earliest clubbing days were Zone, the palace and later on heaven and hell.

Syndicate opened and wiped the floor with everything. Those smaller nights didnt stand a chance and they hit jackpot as headline Dj's were just becoming mainstream.

Stan Boardman

Shawaddywaddy

Ginger Baker( unbelievable set ). About 60 in , spoke to him afterwords . Not at all like his supposed media image.

Salford Jets

Rocking Horse .

Always a good night but the beer was shite.

Gave me a bad head everytime.

Salford Jets? Were they actually a thing? Got a mate who used to be in them.

Used to like Tony, went downhill after he left. Knew how to keep a decent pint.

Hitman and Her at Ritzy, hated the place, probably went in less than 10 times in my lifetime, and that was generally because some lads wanted a change from Pink Panthers across the road, and everytime we came out, we said the same "its fucking shit in there, and why is that fucking DJ still playing Come on Eileen"

Never visited Sizzlers for a keeb after, mates did, I just hated kebabs and fast food shit, made your breath rancid the next day.

Just for you mate 👍

That makes sense, he called me about a year ago to try and sort out some PR work for Mike Sweeney.

Hes made a mint doing Ice shows, lives in Moscow now most of the time.

Sweeney has been a radio presenter up here for as long as i can remember

1980 ish, first memories of him

Yes he's a DMB but I've always liked Sweeney.

Great band live back in the day.

Used to watch  Salford Jets around 1979/80 ish at some boozer in Swinton (Duke of Welly?)

Decent enough live, sort of a placcy post punk band, but they didn't take themselves too seriously.

Sweeney was always a good laugh.

Upeermill, i think

Ill find out in the morning

Scholes lives round there, too

You could well be right. I’ve appeared with my choir a couple of times and Sweeney has been there and afterwards in the pub each time.

Alma has just been sold and earmarked for demolition apparently - for this Wayne Walker site White elephant to have more room.

Bear's Paw still there - was called Brass Cat last time I was a town regular, which dates me.

Millstone still there though you can't cut through from Crown Street to Bank Street anymore, nor access from Bank Street.

They have AA and NA meetings in a Church Hall next door 😃

it was the Golden Lion in my time!

Remember chatting up a lass in the Chip Inn next to the Boars at the end of a night. Told her I worked on the rigs as an underwater bricklayer togged up in a diving suit putting the footings in. Her mate asked my pal what he did, he replied he was my hod carrier 🙂

Duke of Welly .

Salford Jets - Wrestling and a Stripper .

Thursday nights .

They don’t do pubs like that anymore.

And that was all on the same night.

Salford Jets had a weekly slot there
