Kinnel , not many of us are expecting a worldbeater just someone who can pass forward with some vision & accuracy & better than the square passing automatons we currently have(Tutte excluded) Some on here even suggested Bamber Bridge was about his level ffs.

I'm more than happy with Thomasson, just stunned that someone reckons he's a better passer than a bloke who played most of his career in the top flight & in a World Cup 🤔

Top and bottom of it, the squad isn’t good enough. It’s not rocket science. We had very few players, had to throw a side together and a good few haven’t worked. January should sort 1 or 2 bi

I'd compare Tranmere to one of those yellow blocks you get in the urinal. They get smaller and smaller but never seem to fully disappear.  And they stink of piss.

Nowt wrong with Mcateers passing imo.... & he will never be the athlete that Mcateer was. He's a good prospect for where we are now but I very much doubt he will grace the Prem or the International stage.

I agree about his athleticism. He runs stooped and looks ungainly. I dont see him dribbling like McAteer, but he seems to have awareness, vision and doesn’t shy from possession.

Time for him to fill out and get stronger yet too.

Sadly I think you may be right here re the 4K.

People are creatures of habit.

They have found new things to do (or not to do) as the case may be.

Their local has closed down, they have new friendship groups & interests. Maybe a lack of cash due to redundancies/furlough and the realisation of how expensive football is, has truly kicked in.

The top PL clubs will not be playing in front of capacity crowds neither, when society eventually does re-open.

Thats karma for me.

On a more positive note, the 18 year old kid in the middle could be a real find.

Yes crowds will be down in every division for years and years to come, in every country in the world.  That also goes for pubs, clubs, restaurants, shops, museums, all sports events, concerts, shows, whatever, crowds aren't going to return to previous levels.  But we aren't aiming to get back to what it was pre-Covid, we're aiming to get some normality back and if that means 6,000 crowds for a couple of years, so be it, everyone's in the same boat.

Anyone else read comments from Spearing along the lines of 'they play a certain way and haven't deviated from this all season'.

This is the problem, absolutely no variation on the theme. Now I'm not a football manager but pretty certain you can set up a fundamental 3 5 2 formation in different ways, or change it if not working out, but Evatt doesn't? So he either doesn't see it or his ego is too big, and this is a problem. And no amount of transfer windows will help him with this is my concern.

It's lost in the mists of time but pretty certain Allardyce used to have us playing a 4 5 1 or 4 3 3 dependent on opposition, I certainly remember wondering how he would 'set us up' against the better teams so it clearly changed week on week.

Evatt is a young manager and hope he comes good, but he has got to become more pragmatic at times to let him and us progress.

I agree with this 100%.  I don't care if he brings in players or he doesn't, in terms of showing that he's the real deal.

If he gets the most out of his squad he will show he's a proper manager.  He could sign Andy Robertson, Kante and Kane to solve our problem positions and get us promoted, that doesn't make him a top manager.  Make them play to their potential, in a system that suits them, whilst of course having an eye for a player in the transfer market, and he can stay for years for me.

Would not surprise me if we went to Carlisle on boxing day and get a result, but the facts remain this group of players are simply not good enough to get out of proberbly the worst league in 50 years. The is not a good team in this league, one or two like Newport, FGR are set up correctly. At a loss of what to expect come the January transfer window. Part of me wants to go with what we have got and give more youngsters a run out and just fuck this season off and Start again come May less all the deadwood we have. The two lads we know are on trial are both players who would improve us greatly, but one is only with us because of a long standing hip injury so he would be limited to maybe one game per week maximum.

The 11 that started yesterday i hope only Doyle, Sarcevic, Santos, Jones and Delaney start the first game of next season

Darcy, Tutte and Politic would also start with a few youngsters like Thomason,Regan Riley and Sonny Graham either on the bench or around the first team squad.

It would absolutely amaze (and thrill) me!  It wouldn't surprise me if we lost by 3 or 4.  But I agree with what you're saying, this is such a poor league and it should be possible to at least compete in every game.  Interesting that you would have 7 of the 10 outfield players from the current squad, plus Thomason.  That says we should be able to compete with the current team.  The sticking point is the baffling wingback system when we dont have wingbacks, that is 100% down to the manager.

Who would that be?

To play left back in a 4-4-2, in the short term, I'd be happy with any of Brockbank, Jones, Baptiste, Taft, Delaney.  Just my opinion, nobody has to agree.  With instructions not to go beyond the halfway line.  Let's bear in mind we are yet to see a decent right winger in this division unless I've forgotten one.

Casino you do talk sense generally, so this is a genuine question, are you happy with wingbacks?  For the life of me I don't see it working with the current squad, but if you think its the best way to set up fair enough, is that your opinion or do you just think we don't have full backs for any system?

Dont think we are to far away with the players. Thomason,Riley and Graham should be around the first team they are the clubs future. Its the system that does not suit the team. A new keeper is a must as is a Bastard in the centre of Midfield.

Think Fonz got it too easy he knows he is playing week in week out and another quality Forward for lge 2 is a must.

We simply do not have any quality wing backs at the club and that includes Jones who is simply a decent right back but lacks that turn of pace needed. The less said about who has played lwb the better.

Donahue come 1st January. Delaney or Brockbank could play there for the Carlisle game, but we know he aint going to change his system so just barking up the wrong tree.

Yes I agree with most of that.

Our home formation is being exposed by every team we have played.  Even the games we got a result (Bradford, Mansfield, Grimsby) we were fortunate the other team didn't punish us.  Sarcevic is a really good player at this level but we are wasting him as he has to play in his own half too much.  The system has only really worked when Tutte has played.

Delfounseo has scored some good goals but his overall contribution is poor and he has not helped Doyle enough.  Disappointing for a player of his experience at a higher level.

Evatt must be more flexible otherwise we are going nowhere this season.

Unfortunately, only last week 'basking' in the glory of the win at Cheltenham, IE was proclaiming he waa a man of consistency and would not give up his principles.

He had that good run, we were willing to say it's beginning to work and then 3 poor performances in 4.

if he is to insist on this formation he must draft in the players who can do it. He seemed to think he had, but clearly hadn't. Our financial restrictions limit us as a club & as a 4th Division member.

Meanwhile he's failing to get the best out of what he has. He's isolating players and he feigns surprise when people he's ignored come through & appear to be capable. Well, surprise that is until he claims he's the genius behind it.

We're all used to having to see an occasional square peg in a round hole but at the moment we're being given a square team in a round formation.

It is a bit worrying.  I'm still happy to give him the time needed but surely lessons have to be learned as you go along.  We are just not giving ourselves a chance at home.

Tend to agree with most of this .Evatt's formation is tending to work better away from home as the onus is on the home team to attack more & therefore we don't get caught out as much on the break, plus you expect to defend more away from home. For his system to work he needs more round pegs in round holes plus a bit of tactical nouse which to date we haven't seen, although his options are limited given injuries .Pretty sure he would have hooked Delfonso if either Miller or Albert were available from the bench.

Yeh I agree. Despite his limitations as a manager and idiosyncrasies as a character, a very dignified response.

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised by that too. Fair play to him.

If I was a Bolton Red I’d keep fucking quiet too. Nothing boils my piss more than seeing a United shirt in Bolton borough.

When I see blokes and lads who've emigrated here wearing that arsewipe rag I want to school them.

You could have been in Al Qaeda or Boko Harem and you could have the benefit of doubt but that red shit is not welcome in BL-Whatever.

Fucking loathe it - if you're from South Central - G/L, Farnworth etc. we've had to put up with these (Hill type) toerags all our lives.

Then a new lot tip up, fleeing poverty and persecution - who I'd welcome if they didn't wear that used sanitary towel.

Bolton Red? Not much more worse two words in the English language.
