Talk of schools reopening by area after half term

Education committee this morning. Jenny Harries amongst others being questioned.

The chair (Halford) clearly trying to push his agenda for reopening, as you'd expect.

Whilst accepting his premise that it should be priority, none would quite commit 100%.

Some very interesting nuanced information too- how kids may spread it more outside school, and how when at school, parents mix more at work etc, so spread may increase not by the schools but as a consequence of their opening.

A balancing act at the moment, and a staged return makes sense. Get those cases down and fingers crossed.

Anyway, after the last of the top 9 priority groups of which is the over 50s, who should be next

Also, im pretty sure hancock said 98% of all deaths are either in the 9 groups, or maybe even less than that...it couldve been age 70 plus and risk groups

I see its started

Coppers, educators pushing to get up the list

We either follow the science or we don't, but this has been brewing for a bit

One mp asked this very question. Inevitable, and sad that different groups need to start this.

We'll see what the jcvi come up with in a few weeks.

Some wont be happy.

Some are never happy

No point trying to ever placate the teaching unions, for example

Jenny Harries was questioned heavily. Quite a number of studies done, with a degree of variability as to the extra risk posed to teachers. It seems that overall risk isn't that high, though it would be daft to say no extra risk.

Apparently, figures suggest, at least in part, that the rise in cases is more to do with parents returning to work once children are back in school.

The footsoldiers may have a point.
