It has panned out as the "glass half empty" part of me feared and we are now employing a young manager while he is learning his trade. However I really don't want to be forever changing managers and bringing in new tactical geniuses all the time, so in my opinion he is still welcome. Mr Evatt if you are reading this, get yourself a big ugly goalkeeper to give Gilks a day off when needed and give some confidence to the guys with their backs turned to our goal. Do the basics by building from the back and not leaving open areas that can be exploited. Then, once established we can start experimenting... Evolution not Revolution! Agreed fella, good post 👍🏻
Dimron 63
I'm going to set up an Agency supplying goalkeepers to clubs in January windows
Casino 2,360
Evatt wants to play nice football Loads of you wanted nice football I'm a results first fella and he even has my backing so you fancy dans really need to give him 2 years
radcliffewhite1 648
It’s league 2 you don’t play nice football it’s about getting out at the first attempt
Casino 2,360
If youve got players worse than the rest of division 2 you play shit football But plenty wanted pretty stuff In this league, we should be good enough to go toe to toe You only need to look at the brand evatt thread The excitement was about having a manager who wanted to play fancy dan I'm pretty sure most of the noise was coming from the total football crowd
radcliffewhite1 648
You can mix it but ultimately you start with a solid GK a grafter/ enforcer in the middle and a goalscorer
Dimron 63
The "glass half full" part of me was excited at the beginning of the season but there was that nagging down to earth "what about the defence?" in my head after reading about our new striker signings and Keegan-esque promises of attacking football where we will ship goals but score more. In the cold light of day you have to stop the goals going in so that the (sometimes few) opportunities up field aren't wasted.
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket 1,564 Posted January 15 Site Supporter Share Posted January 15 The football isn't particularly great though is it? Excellent in patches, but even when we were dominating possession, chances, shots and goals weren't exactly common place. Front two is more like a front 1½. Seeing his interview for tomorrow, he wants us to be more patient and tire the opposition with passing- which is all well and good, but of late the passing is shit, movement not great, and not creating a great deal in the games, except perhaps in the latter stages. Dr. Feelgood 24
You can do as much pitty-pat as you like, you can have 75% possession, you can be as fit on 90min as you were on 5min. One big fck-you 50+ yard long throw not dealt with & it's all for nought.

I still am, I can dream. Seriously though, the football is frustrating, but it's still better than than that boring cunts! I just want to see progression, some building blocks, there are bits of it, maybe we expected to much. But your right and I've said it all along, he stays out his contract, for some reason I have faith in him, he is the right man..... hopefully 🤞
Traf 2,620
I'd like us to sign a tall, athletic keeper. Gilks is neither and looks fucked half the time.

No wonder - he’s too old for all this Sat/Tues/Sat bollocks. Fwiw i still believe in Evatt, i reckon he’s probably as frustrated as the rest of us that we haven’t exactly hit the ground running. Like someone said earlier, we need to sort the defence out first, stop shipping shit goals in and take it from there. Rioch did it, Big Sam did it, it’s the first place to start - the rest will follow. Edited January 16 by Burndens Bogs

Mr Grey 739
The point is, Gilkes doesn't want to play or be a full-time keeper, he is happy filling in and is a step up on Casper, which in fairness any keeper would have been. We need a keeper, Gilkes isn't agile enough, but he is wise enough and does the basics and uses his experience well, but if a goalie doesn't want to play and his head is 100% in it, he shouldn't be playing. GK should have been the priority position in this January window, there's time yet, so fingers crossed 🤞
desperado 153
Reading between the lines from IE comments, he’s brought 2 young lads in on loan, he’s intimating the next 2 signings will be more experienced, (hopefully one a keeper) but we’ll have to wait till the end of the window

Casino 2,360
You werent alone http://www.wanderersways.com/forum/topic/91294-bradford-match/page/9/ Good read is this thread point is, its not like we didnt sign a keeper who we thought fitted the bill Its just not worked out
Site Supporter Biggish Dave 533 Posted January 16 Site Supporter Share Posted January 16 I'd like fancy dan football and being able to go toe to toe - think back to Toddy's 97 team. Parkys dirge would bore me to tears but Coyles happy clappy stuff is also a no no. Surely we can aim for middle of road
