A quick white sauce or tomato sauce. I also use the 1kg bags of frozen mix veg - cauli, broccoli, carrots, french beans...£1 a bag and no prep or wastage. Only for myself mind, wouldn't cheat in company. I've been blanching unused broccoli, carrots and cabbage and sticking them in the freezer and all good so far. Not in Crawley
Southern chippies are good - had some of the best fish down here. There's a belting one in Margate. Our local is decent as well. As Sweep says not been in a chippy that doesn't do gravy or mushy peas. You won't get a babbys head though.

Chippies in the south are invariably crap. Kebab/Pizza/allsorts takeaways that try and do fish and chips are bastards too, location unimportant. Any takeaway that does more than one nations food should be avoided. In fact it should be a law that mix and match of food by originating nation is punishable by prison

Sweep
I still think that you could ever beat the curry sauce that Rice n Easy opposite Burnden used to serve - made even better by the fact the woman who served it had a head the size of a pumpkin. I've never had another chip shop curry sauce like it, and I've tried fucking loads Is Rice n Easy still there? - I presume it's long gone

But Ilove the street food places here now and there's a whole mx of stuff you can get. If you are ever in Elephant and Castle this place is excellent https://www.mercatometropolitano.com/mmarketplace/elephant-castle-trading-partners/
green genie
I normally cant abide vinegar on chips (why go to the bother of getting them crispy) but there's a shop in proper fishing village in Cornwall offers the vinegar from pickled onion jar. Different class

Actually there's a lace opposite Victoria station which is great - might be worth it when folk are on awaydays again. Decent beer as well. Plus Nova is great round there - its got one of my favourit places to eat - Bone Daddies, great for a weekend meal out https://bonedaddies.com/ The Pork Pork Chilli Ramen is so good. I was just lazily stereotyping - 90% of my southern (non-coast) chippy visits I've probably been so inebriated as to be unaware of moist options and/or of the 'eating is cheating' mindset and present under duress from cheating colleagues. I think most coastal chippies are good.
Site Supporter Spider Posted January 25, 2021 Site Supporter Share Posted January 25, 2021 I ate a whole cauliflower the other night - tossed in olive oil, lemon, salt and garlic then chucked in the air fryer. After a sleepless night of farting like an overused porn starlet, I then shat out what felt like a decades worth of guts. A colonic irrigation for 79 new pence. Youri McAnespie
I had salt and pepper chips once from a highly recommended chinese chippy in Cumbria - they were fucking fried oven chips, and no birdseye chillies either... Utter shite.

Who but a maniac would eat a whole cauli and expect any other outcome though? I refuse to eat parsnips as they blow me up like The Hindenberg - a pity as I love a roast carrot, parsnip, swede combo with Sunday dinner. And @Mr Grey Fray Bentos are definitely smaller - they used to be just shy of small dinner plate size. In fact I bet bedsit dossers kept them for use as plates back in the 80's...
