Mounts Kipper
Has anyone had this happen? I notified my insurer that I’d got 3 points on my license for speeding SP50 this was November 20th didn’t get notification until December 9th and my policy renewed December 1st as I wasn’t using my car in December as I was going on holiday I paid my fine in January and got my points added same time, I notified my insurer middle of January and got email to contact them this week, rang up and they said they wouldn’t insure me and cancel my policy, I’ve now 6 points both for speeding and 9 years no claims, problem is when I now try to insure car they ask if I’ve had policy declined or cancelled which bumps up the price, is there anyway round this or basically do I just have to pay the extra, all for being honest. Escobarp
You shouldn’t have taken the points. By law they have to notify you within 14 days of the offence or its invalid. you could have got it quashed. Sorry to tell you pal Ive assumed you weren’t aware you had been caught until the notification came through ? re the insurance point I would say just pay it as it will end in tears otherwise. I'd use a broker in this instance. They know the ins and outs of it all

I thought you where meant to tell your insurance straight away? I accidentally put the wrong amount of points on my insurance that my partner had and they threatened to cancel my insurance when they found out. Rang them up with all intentions to cry and it was fine.
Members Rudy
I’ve had it happen Mounts, I got the notice 18 days after I was speeding, in between I renewed my policy so I rang the insurance company and they said it’s a non declaration and will have to cancel my policy via letter. I appealed the pints because I got them outside of the time period which I won, rang the insurance company and it was all sorted. In the mean time I was onto a insurance broker and they would have looked after it

Didn’t know this, anyhow I’ve managed to insure the car, less than previous insurer and with a £50 Amazon voucher. Thx for all the advise ladies & gents. xx Edited February 10, 2021 by Mounts Kipper
Site Supporter only1swanny Posted February 10, 2021 Site Supporter Share Posted February 10, 2021 My bump in June has had to go down as a fault claim. (Uninsured driver hit me and drove off). I wasn't aware of this and put it down as non fault claim. The insurance went from 800 to 3200..

Apparently its the way they do it now, as the other party could claim its my fault.. Driver behind didn't want to do 20 in a 20 zone so overtook on a bend, cars still not right, caused loads of mechanical faults that weren't picked up by the repair garage. Should have been written off but the garages don't make money if they're written off

Sweep
Bloody Hell, glad you got it sorted Mounts. As you've got it sorted, hopefully you don't mind me asking a question now 🙂 I've had a company car for years, probably 20 years in total - never had any claims. I'm going to "opt out" when the lease on this car expires, so obviously I'll have to sort my own insurance. Does anybody have any recommendations about who I should speak to with regards to getting insurance, who will take into account that I've zero no claims, as I've not had my own insurance........there's no option for this on the comparison sites. Or do I just have to take insurance like I'm a new driver.

Approach your fleet department and ask them to get a notification of no claims from their insurer relating to you pal

stevieb
Yeah @Sweepyour company car fleet manager should provide you with a letter saying you've had x years without claims. Just use that as normal NCD proof. Best to check with whoever you go with what their requirements are for the letter too.
