Bought some sarsaparilla tablets yesterday. Not had them for years. Proper took me back to when you'd go to the paper shop and get either a 10p mix or a if your Mam was feeling generous a 1/4 of sweets from a jar. Cola cubes where a close 2nd.

Shit I sound old.

Pineapple chunks?

You could get them free in the Urinals at the Cattle Market, once you'd sucked the piss off them, they tasted OK and lasted ages

Anyway, Midget Gems, apart from the black ones which tasted horrible (Liquorice I think, which is a thing nobody likes)

Aye, the ones made by Lyon's I think.  Same with fruit salad too.

Midget gems made by anyone but Lyon's are the shit soft ones.  if they don't pull your fillings out then they're shit.

Little Whitt, who is a midget, once fingered a bird on the back seat of a Little Gem. :)

Aye the fruit salads are in as well. Also b and m have them in and that was where I got my last bag from.

I forgot all About the existence of little gems. Takes me back that does!

They were blue iirc - the pisscakes.

As for black midget gems, it's because of child-like palates that Maynards and Bassetts have made the black ones some shitty blackcurrant flavour now.

Lions (available from Home Bargains) have stuck to traditional liquorice black ones, and for fans of these they also do liquorice gums - bags solely comprising double-sized black liquorice midget gems.

The corner shop near me sells those blue and pink hundreds and thousands covered jelly tablets out of liquorice allsorts in dedicated bags - they're called Spogs.

When we were kids all my mates used to insist on traipsing to some scuzzy, smelly white-owned cornershop* to buy 'Choc-Limes' - if the lazy fuckers were open, which wasn't often - utter crap and about 30p for around five sweets.

* even the lads who frequented this shop referred to it as 'Smelly's'...

There used to be a shop on Tonge Moor near the Co-Op, for ages it had a handwritten sign in the window 'Milk Tokens Accepted', anyhow I went in once, it was like the land that time forgot for jars of old school sweets, and not contrived and overpriced like in those shitty 'Ye Olde' hipster shops.

I don't eat sweets.

I get mine from a shop on COR when im in the area. They have a decent selection and aren’t overpriced like some if the online shops doing just old fashioned sweets.

There's a girl in our village who make makes boxes of "vintage" sweets up for all occasions - she must make a fortune, selling little boxes of them for about £10 each. Fair pley to her, it's a really good idea, and the mark up must be immense. She's already stopped taking orders for Mothers Day, as she has so many to do
