Perhaps we should all now set up a charity to give every front line NHS nurse, cleaner and driver £1,000 each for a holiday. Beats standing at the front door banging a saucepan.

Fuck the government, they are reverting to type and do not represent the population.

Which population is that?

You work for a private company I presume?

People pay taxes, it pays for the public sector. I'm intrigued as to what you reckon the level of taxation should be, and what wages everyone therein should be paid.

Mainly unavoidable- kinell wish you'd shared the secret with the scientific community about 15 months back.

To be fair, we have a pretty shit death rate compared to reasonably comparable countries. We have to consider how a covid death is accounted for of course but I think when it is all sorted out we did particularly shite.

However, for balance, our furlough and vaccine efforts have been superior to those similar countries.

It will all, fucking hopefully, come out in the wash when we all eventually get back to some normality.

Then we can all start arguing about Brexit again 🤪

The Taxpayer's Alliance are largely compromised of grasping selfish tight-fisted nouveau-riche c*nts who ideally would like to dodge even the last bit of taxation they've been unable to avoid.

I'd send them to some low-tax third world shithole where they could live in some fortress-like compound and have flame-throwered up Humvees...

Tossers.

Really?

13 points ahead in the latest polls suggests you and your like are off beam.

I have voted for all four parties in my time (I include the Greens when they put a candidate forward)

My particular "type" does not slavishly follow populist cults, I tend to make my own mind up based on the facts I am presented with and I recommend anyone getting carried away to put their foot on the ball, look around and ask the question... what is best for the UK team?

But... I still cannot get my head around how parts of Bolton and its neighbours can become Tory Seats after the damage their austerity has caused over the last 12 years. I was of the opinion that Cameron was the worst PM in history but it has all gone further downhill since then.

They're all as piss poor as each other but I really don't like the narrow minded decision making the Etonian old boy chumocracy gives us. People seem to think "Boris is our friend", he's not, he is a scheming toffee nosed privileged cunt at the end of the day

Yes I do, I had a problem at Christmas and after threatening to twat the MD, him and me have been getting on like old pals again. But the nurses don't have that direct access to resolving any grievances.

The long term plan seems to be to run the NHS down (we were short of nurses pre-pandemic) so that American outsourcing can step in, going to see your GP will be like seeing your dentist or optician within the next 10 years, Visa cards ready when you make your appointment.

if he thinks they were unavoidable, not really a case for bozo to answer

But what if he thinks they were unavoidable but he also thinks he knows what unavoidable means, but it does not mean what he thinks it means ?

I'd ignore that, Dimron is making a case for normality without the odd division. There will always be right vs left, but I mainly thought the decent folk on here were sensible without an agenda.

Which is why the boring lot are, erm, boring.

I might come across as a closet lefty but I'll be voting Conservative in the Local Elections?

Why? Because we have a hard working conscientious councillor who gets things done... but stands as a Conservative

Unavoidable? Go on then I’ll bite.

Take a look at South Korea. 1600ish deaths to date. In the main because they had professionals running a strict and effective test and trace system. Many other details which I won't bore you with here, but they didn't pay their mates billions to fuck everything up.

A live fish, or a dead fish?

And which kind of fish?

Details man, details.......

A large fish, a decent sized salmon or maybe a cod. A rotting, smelling fish that leaves a lingering stench.

They already had an infrastructure in place, following their issues with sars.

They have a very different society, far more respectful, and willing to wear masks as a matter of routine.

The Western world largely didn't, and has a very different, more liberal society.

Too say we should have had x,y, or z in place; politically that's a really tough sell for any party until it happens.

As for everything being fucked up... are you taking up your vaccine offer?

I'm not an expert in any other society, but as a percentage, what other countries have as many old folk as us? Then are they packed like sardines into houses badged as retirement homes? That's not on Boris, you can knock him all you want. He's our democratically leader and I can't see a fucking chance of that changing this decade, unless he steps down.

Not really for this thread I suppose, but I believe we'll know better following any future investigations.

However an interesting statistic the other day: Vietnam has 18% of its population classed as overweight. Ours is 63%.

A shit load of factors will come out- however the obesity epidemic is showing its effects in all ways, and apparently the budget has made more money available for tackling the problem. Invest in preventative measures now, to save later.

Strangly, the three countries with 20%+ of over 65s are Japan, Italy and Germany. (Don't mention the war).

UK is typical of major countries with 18.5%, less than France but more than USA.

Obesity seems to be a major factor in Covid-19 death levels.
