Vale's pitch is actually one of the widest and longest in League 2. Leyton Orient is the only one that's bigger, with Salford coming a close 3rd.

I couldn’t find the stats on pitch width,  but presumably that’s measuring the grass, rather than the lines? There was about 5 meters of grass either side of the lines.

That said, the pitch didn’t look narrow to me.

The pitch is measured from outside of lines to outside of opposite lines. Playing surface is the same thing. Off pitch grass isn’t relevant.

Ive just watched the game and I disagree with that. First half they tried to upset our rhythm and we couldn’t get settled, but they couldn’t keep up the pressure all game , we kept the ball much better than them, and limited their chances. Won’t always be pretty but overall I thought we played good. They offered absolutely nothing.

It was 2 poor teams on the day but watching those "highlights", they did have a few shots on target, I don't remember us getting near to a decent chance other than the goal.  Difference really is Vale's one shot from in the box was deflected just wide, our's looked a less threatening shot but found its way into the net in slow motion.  Happy to have another 1-0 win where we had the rub of the green, on the back of Barrow and Southend.

No, it's line to line.

Cheers chaps. Makes sense as to why the pitch didn’t look narrow to me!

Penalty area is 44 yards across

You can calculate pitch size from that using the mower lines

That’s something else I noticed yesterday. PV was the first time I’d seen goal to goal mower lines instead of side to side.  Maybe that’s what made the pitch look narrow.

We aren't getting the ball into the old mixing pot enough for my liking, our corners are poor and we should have someone able to chuck it into the middle of the fracas. Not pretty but basic stuff with a chance of results at the end.

Legge had a good game for them today, if it wasn't for the wind he'd come out man of the match on a winning team,

Hugh has got 2 accounts I see

Anybody who watched that yesterday that has been watching all our games would agree we didn’t play well and for a large part of the game PV matched us. To say I don’t like Evatt is nonsense; I wasn’t at all happy with the time he took to drop Crellin or to change tactics and yes if he had continued to be stubborn than I was with the fans wanting him out BUT he has turned it round and I am right behind him. Doyle hadn’t been playing well but I was the first on her to say he had a brilliant game against Cambridge.

I don’t wear rose tinted spectacles but maybe I can criticise too soon but that’s  because I am passionate about BWFC. Hugh  however who you mention is a Bolton hater.

now get your rose tinted off

Well said, that's my thoughts too. Some can't have a discussion without taking sides and making everything black and white, pro or anti.  Keep giving balanced opinions, for and against 👏

Correct sometimes I can be critical but some take that as moaning it’s like you can’t say negatives on here at times

Let's face it they had more shots on target yesterday than us.It was windy the pitch uneven (though not narrow)but this has to be expected in league 2.One of their efforts after a short corner routine driven straight at Gilks could have been catastrophic , but lady luck smiled on us again.

We still don't create enough in the final third given our possession of the ball. Some teams such as PV Barrow & probably Walsall up & coming will let us have the ball & hope for a break. It might get a tad frustrating & Arthur can always come on & change the dynamic but we are by no means nailed on for easy victories anywhere.

If Sarcevic is injured I’d like to see Miller & Doyle up top think we might score more goals with a genuine 2 up top as feel the ball might stick up top for longer periods and help us get more goal scoring opportunities.

Agreed, never saw the logic in one man up front, double your front line, double your goal scoring potential

But weaken the set up without the ball, have less possession, and therefore less time to create chances?

All different ways of looking at things, and the number of goals is frustrating at times, but we're heading in the right way.

Because the system we have been playing has given us the best unbeaten run for 20 years.

Why change something that is working? Sarce will be missed I think but squad should be strong enough to cope.

Nobody has commented on how well the final part of the move to the goal was constructed.  Doyle does a massive job in dragging the centre halves to the front post.  Fonz does a bit behind him.  Keeper and all defenders expecting ball at front post.  Pulled back to the edge, everyone on front post and a big hole to the right of the goal for Jones to pop it in.

Not an accident.  Well done IE, coaching staff and players.

This is why we have to be patient when it sometimes looks pedestrian putting 20-odd passes together. Teams defend like fuck against us and all this passing is designed to eventually pull someone out of position.
