It won't, but then it's only a vigil (a full on protest wouldn't either)

I'm quite ambivalent about it myself, but if the attention it creates leads to a review of things like this not happening it might be a good thing

But it’s not a vigil for the dead girl.

The hastily written signs tell me that.

I get the issue they raise, trust me, but to do it in her name is distasteful.

They'll move on to something else in a few weeks when the hashtag loses its novelty.

That article has been written by someone who hasn't quite understood tge judgement

The police's position was that protests are outright banned by the Covid regulations, the judge ruled that that the right to protest has to be considered and that it could be ruled lawful

It is for plenty of people

But anyway, my main point is about the police response, relative to other protests

Fair enough.

My issue isn’t with the police. They’ve a shit job and can’t win.

I just find these internet campaigns tedious now.

I don't blame the individual officers, they're just doing the job they've been asked to do, it's the people in charge making the decisions

And for what it's worth, I also find the social media campaigns tedious, but of all of them I think this is one of the most genuine. It's got cut through way beyond the attentions seekers IMO.

How would you stop that? There were thousands out in Glasgow last week. How would you have stopped it? And how do you think it would have ended for those trying to stop it?

Perhaps don't stop either?

There's no evidence I'm aware of that any of these events had led to an outbreak of any kind, let alone a significant one

It was happening anyway, it was a peaceful, relatively quite vigil/protest with heavy mask uptake

Just make the common sense decision

(Although I made the same point last year about the protest surrounding the bringing down of the Edward Colston statue and the consensus on here was that the police should've gpne charging in 🤷‍♂️)

...and whilst all these coppers are busy on Clapham Common, women walk unprotected elsewhere.

Of course I’m being slightly facetious, but that vigil would last no longer than an hour if no coppers or media turned up.

Exactly, just let it be. Then put the police's resources to better use elsewhere.

And what was the reason given why they didn’t? Can you remember?
