To be fair, there’s a pitch on the corner of Stitch mi Lane and Deepdale Road which is better than some I’ve seen this season.

My old school team pitch 80-85. It certainly looks a better pitch now than then

For fear of sounding like a broken record tempo of our play is massively important

Last week and 1st half today shows if we’re slow we get dragged down to a pretty average level and we’re not good / clever enough to break teams down like that.

But we did break them down? Sometimes you’ve just got to be patient and regroup at half time.

The free kick situation can't be argued though surely?

Seen one or two go over the bar, but the rest seem to hit the wall.

Must be able to do better with them.

Maverick is a free-kick specialist

All the changes that are proposed during the game is another one that makes me smile.

If it had been a fan based, in game selection/substitution process going on today it could have been a completely different outcome today, especially the calls for Lee to be replaced.

We all have opinions on how we feel about changes & formations & I get your point but tbf whilst we are racking up points more often than not we are far from convincing therefore there is room for improvement.

For instance I feel that as long as we play a high tempo we are well equipped to beat any team in this league, however, I think that Delfounso hampers us trying to do this so I would like to see someone who displays a bit more pace & urgency replace him. Doesn't mean I'm right but I'm not necessarily wrong either.

Yes when we upped the speed of our play in the 2nd half. Last week one decent move (again when we moved the ball quicker) created the goal

there’s a difference between being patient and slow.

when we’ve played quicker - Bradford and Cambridge they’ve not been able to live with us. That’s when we’re at our best

We play the wrong system

We are playing the wrong players

Our corners free kicks and throw ins are rubbish

Our tempo is too slow, need to get in the box quicker

32 points from last 36. We are throwing it away.

😁😎😂

To be honest our corners & free kicks are woefull .It shouldn't & isn't  rocket science.Even a moderate improvement might lead to a couple of goals ?

Thought we stepped up second half The sight of subs warming up certainly upped the pace Delfonso started playing like he had a rocket up his arse.I thought our penalty was legitimate, clever play inside their box.Their no.2 dived all afternoon so the ref on the basis of 'the boy who cried wolf' wasn't having any of it when it came to his penalty dive.

Sending off a bit harsh but the lad has history with hot headedness.

Thought Isgrove put a good stint in.

We keep possession, they chase, they tire, we score late.

Seems to be a pattern here 🤔

The entertainment factor from this is pretty low but we are getting the results to get us out of this shitty league. Carry on please

Absolutely. Gets on my tits at times but I must admit, I quite enjoy watching us these days. I just wish we'd get to check mate a bit earlier

I'm loving match days at the minute , who would of thought we'd have been saying that 2 months ago . It wouldn't be Bolton if it was straightforward haha.

Agreed, Fonz was doing nothing until he saw the subs.

I feel that some effort put into developing our throws and corners will make our matches a lot easier. I don't want to become a long throw or kick & run team but I see our players getting shut down too easily especially when taking throws... and let's get the near  post flick on going again like in the white hot days.

I remember Terry Venables saying 50% of goals at his Spurs, Barca & Palace were from corners & free kicks, first or second phase They worked at them. Trained on them in great detail.

I remember Lennon saying he never practiced them. I know which I prefer.

If Evatt can't do it then get an expert coach in. Be worth their weight in goals. (See what I did there !!)

I can accept Evatt not wanting to play for set peices and agree with him, much better to beat teams at football.

Set peices though are a huge part of football so give yourself a good chance at both ends of the pitch when they occur.

Very characterful win. Exactly the character we didn't show when playing poorly early season.

We are right in the mix now.  A loss today would have been a real bodyblow for top three hopes but on we rumble. And the motley crew of lower league clubs around us will continue to be very worried about our progress.

Brought a little memory of that 2-1 win v Northampton four years ago when we were losing 0-1 and playing poorly. Morais and Le Fondre I think

Good shout - very dodgy pen for a handball to equalise 75th minute, winner from postman on 82.  Then Matt Taylor put a great cross in, 94th minute, back of net, him celebrating in front of ESL, disallowed for offside.  That non pen moment wasn't quite as dramatic but definite parallels.

Law of averages, how many times do you score off a corner throughout the season, and how many time do you score off a free kick.

46 games, average 5 corners a game for example = 230 😏

He is playing the percentage game, possession is key.

But scoring 1 goal every say 6 or 7 games off a set piece could easily put 10 more points on the board

Garp wanked himself senseless when Lennon did short corners because you rarely score direct, ie, one touch from a corner

However, that stat didn't include more than one touch from corner

At the end of the day, get it in the fucking box

I'm not sure we will, maybe under Allardyce or that shyster Parkinson when we actually ventured into the opposition half, different era now fella, frustrating but we have to get used it, we are winning with the type of football we are playing.

Saying that, it does seem pointless sending 2 centre backs up, or maybe that's to confuse the opposition, anyway in Brand Evatt we trust.

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the football we play. Even earlier on in the season, I could see what he was trying to do so kept the faith.

Having an extra string to the bow wouldn't be a bad thing though? Just don't go playing for it

Didn’t Evatt say about a month ago that we’re scoring on average 1 in every 60 corners and conceding 1 in every 20, or have I dreamt that?

I don’t think we have either scored or conceded from one since, so I imagine both have gone up since but set pieces really aren’t a strength for us. It’s clearly not a problem at the moment, but it would be nice to add it as another string to the bow.

I'm the same as you, but he ain't going to change his philosophy, maybe if it was the last minute and we need a winner, we might swing one over because the opposition are a bit nervy at that point in the game. Evatt is a thinker, a young manager as well, he has moved from a back 3 to a back 4, so there is a chance he will re-think and change.

I agree mate. I think if he had a more settled squad and one he wanted from the off, things would change and set pieces would be practiced more.

As it happens, I'm convinced we are the best team in the league so will be in top 3 come what may. Bring on last 10 games, Saturday can't come around quickly enough

My main issue is still the lack of quality when crossing. So many of our crosses are very poor.

Aye and IE basically fucked Hickman off for a few shit crosses, so he must have high standards

Or it was just an excuse because Hickman is a prick
