From two suppliers today, I've learned that shortages of materials are likely because of unprecedented demand. Same happened last year.

Anyone thinking of doing stuff, especially in the garden- do it soon.

From fertiliser to compost to fencing (wood) all showing signs of supply not keeping up.

Bonkers

Timber has been hit and miss since last summer, I was reserving structural stuff 4-6 weeks in advance that was still on the ship. One of the problems is where wood is made in Brazil and the Philippines. Not sure about Canada and Norwegian spruce. Plaster powders was good one last year but now its plasterboard but not as bad. Spanish roof slates have dried up since Brexit too.

Never know what is going to be next....

We had the tiles shortage last year but seem to be running fine this year, after bizarrely changing our tile supplier to a Northern Irish one in Toome, and seeing no price increase either. Long may it continue. Last year's tiles from our normal place were being rushed out too quickly and hadn't baked properly, hence meaning they were very brittle when laid causing a lot of breakage.

Certain plumbing/heating materials are already in massive constraint.

Things like radiators are seeing price increases of 50%+

The bathroom suppliers are way behind too

Oh don't say that I'm having all my heating and electrics replaced soon

A lot of manufacturing products are still being affected by covid.

When I enquired about an electric van last year, I was basically told to forget it- huge waiting list from effects of pandemic.

As brexit issues are resolved, hopefully some things will improve, but the EU needs to get its bloody vaccination system in order.

Depends what your plumbing requirements are.

<background jazz music begins>

I can promise to surprise you with my pipe work though

I've got a 1970s back boiler that needs ripping out and all radiators replacing with a boiler putting in.

Electrics all need replacing as they are a death trap

Whole house needs plastering and decorating too.

Fucking joys.

Fence panels was rare as rocking horse shit last year noticed a big jump in price this time

Just picked up some trellis from Cocklestorm earlier, good weight/quality and reasonable price.

Fence panels I got for my mum a few weeks back from conquest were definitely more expensive than they were not so long ago.

China is swallowing a lot of wood up which buggers things up.
