Quick Burnden Question

Sent me down a right rabbit hole this

Pre-Normid and pre-fences, photos show the blue cabin in the corner and one door on the Burnden side of the Embankment. Looks like the door was the entrance to the cabin rather than a turnstile

Also, thinking about it, before the A666 was built could you get across to Burnden from The Haulgh? If not it wouldn’t make sense having turnstiles on that side as you’d have to walk right round the ground to get in?

I spent all bar a few games paying in on the Burnden Paddock and dont recall seeing any Embankment turnstiles. Could easily be wrong though

Are you selling these? I'd love a Burnden Park one for my Dad?

I have been doing/will be doing providing Burnden comes out ok! The more traditional grounds don’t seem to look as impressive as the newer grounds with distinguishing features (excluding supermarkets).

Seriously though, if you do it, include normid and as it's 3d have it stick out further than the rest

I'd buy one

Leave it with me, I’ll see what I can do 😂

Well when it first opened they had a junior 'beat night' on a Monday so based on that I'd say 1968-69 ish because I wasn't drinking ale then.

I vaguely rember the tv box being added...75ish...but can i see 2 clocks, one on manny road that i remember, but another on the burnden stand?

Definitely two clocks , believe it or not they were not always in synch.

Not sure when the Burnden one was taken down.

Yeah I know. I used to walk through it. My question though was asking was there any access from The Haulgh before St Peter’s Way was built?

Yes there was.

I recall as a youngster we used to make a nuisance of ourselves at Bromwich St during the school holidays and then we would jog with the squad back to the ground across the Croal valley where we would be given a glass of pop and autographs or whatever. That was pre the "Inner Relief Road" as it was originally called (St Peters Way).

In the latter years of BP, didn't they build new turnstiles behind the embankment so they fed directly from the away car park?

Yes definitely

Also I am sure they had turnstiles at Burnden end of the Embankment

Thanks for that mate.

This is the picture I have behind my chair at work, snapped it this morning for Matty2094.

Its how I remember Burnden in my mind's eye (from the pie shop), it is from a calendar my old mum had on her wall, it was sold by Bolton Hospice, the artist has signed it "Brian"
