Its really strange, you dont see most of us younger ones so bitter about older bands or even new ones we may not be into. I recon is an angry old man thing..... Nobody is more bitter about them than they are about each other.

Popular is fact, based on numbers. He is popular, thats a fact, and he is popular because lots people like him. If the general / popular opinion was of yours, he would not be popular. Hence, he is relavant. Reality TV programmes are popular, therefore they are relevant but each & everyone of them is shit 😊

Doesn't make it good though, makes it fit for.purpose. That's the point I was making.

There were a couple of copyright issues regarding Oasis, Stevie Wonder was credited as co-writer of Step Up due to the similarity of Wonder's Uptight (Everything's All Right), and Neil Innes was credited as co-writer for the song Whatever due to the similarity of Innes' How Sweet It Is To Be An Idiot. The Rutles were the band Oasis wished they were.

MancWanderer
Maybe I was wrong in describing Oasis first two albums as groundbreaking. Maybe a better choice of words would be era-defining. As were the band. Anyone complaining that a band is shit because they’ve copied something from an earlier band. No shit. Happened forever. Most genres emanate originally from the different styles of early black American music - R&B, gospel, country, etc

Just perhaps musically they might have been overlauded because of a cultural impact in the UK over a couple of years, which is as much to do with time and place as any famous band will tell you. Luck plays a massive part in popularity. My dissertation was about gospel and roots call and response in the development of modern popular music. Really loved that module. The lineup has changed a bit over the years. You don’t need drugs to listen to this sweet, sweet music.
