"International furore" 😂

I've heard Simone Biles name more this week than I've heard my own kids names.

Might be because I've booked the week off and been watching all the Olympics because the weather is shit! 🤣

I had to double take that the yank was a lass

That was what the olympics is all about

Yep.

Did she bottle it on that second run I wonder, or was her error already too damaging?

Whatever the case, our lass performed tremendously and put her under pressure.

Think she needed a perfect run or nothing

Biles withdrawing due to mental health i Get but I don’t then understand still competing in other events surely the pressure is going to be higher

It's hard to make a judgement on any specific case, as they're all different. However, for me there's too much of it currently: despite the difficulties we know about through covid etc, some of it frankly seems people using 'mental health' as something to use to when it's normal sporting pressures which the best ones manage better and have done since sports began.

Listening to the comments about Mings it doesn't sit well: he will have had to overcome challenges about his ability all his career- from being a kid etc. Continually having to work to better himself and prove his worth. It seems odd that public questions have suddenly bothered him to the extent that his MH has been affected.

Maybe the use of social media hasn't helped.

Social media doesn't help at all. Just think, not long ago you might make the pages of the gutter press for a day or two. Now you are on constant 24hr repeat, have the opinion of every Tom, Dick & Harry thrown at you, Z-listers using your situation to try and improve theirs, etc etc.

It's relentless and somehow we need to temper it. I would fucking hate to be famous or in the spotlight for whatever reason these days.

One way to temper it- don't go on it. The companies thrive on numbers, and within that famous folk at the mercy of their sponsors. Though on the other hand I'm sure they appreciate the income from their sponsors.

If it is so damaging, kick it into touch. It really isn't difficult.

The testosterone levels being different for different events is a complete and utter balls up from those in charge, absolute incompetence at the highest level.

On a different note the figures show WADA collected 305881 samples in 2019 and 168256 in 2020 so you would have to think there's plenty taken advantage of having had a drug full year.

Would those testing figures be in part because of the effect of the pandemic?

Anyway, talking of testosterone, the New Zealand 'woman' in the weightlifting had more armpit hair than I have on my head. Thankfully she was pretty shite, and the medals were won by women, albeit ugly ones.

Surely a strong mental position is as much a part of sport as a physical one?

The best athletes and teams are lauded for having a mental advantage before they even start playing.

Look at the best football teams down the ages. An Allardyce team had a mental edge before a ball was kicked - Arsene Wenger would hate coming to the Reebok but he still turned up.

Tiger Woods had a shot on his rivals before the first ball was hit but they all still played on.

Its getting ridiculous.

It's a very controversial issue; can't blame the individuals concerned if they're allowed in, but there are a lot of athletes and notaries that don't agree with it, and I'm inclined to agree.

Certainly a "cockoffeny" within sport.

They either say yes and get rid of genders in all sports

whatever you were born sorry that’s where you are allowed to Compete

Form their own olympics/sports

The development of male dna and how their bodies are built is completely different to women, political correctness aside in terms of sport if you were born with a cock and balls you compete with men, if you were born with minge you compete with women.

It needs sorting or sooner or later some lass is gonna get her face punched off in mixed boxing.

Utter madness.

If you were a woman and become a man that’s fine but you still stay with whatever gender you were born with

I agree.

A danger it starts making a mockery of some events.

Not sure how old you are, but the name of Kratochvilova competing all those years ago may have bene a portent.
