  1. In amongst the debate about fascists, antifascists etc etc it's worth watching a televised conversation from decades ago that had two combatants Jonathon Miller and Enoch Powell who were - for whatever their faults - intelligent and capable of dueling with aplomb. And at 10:21 Miller (using his medical background) hits him with a metaphor so astonishing that it even leaves Powell slack jawed with admiration. And one that still has resonance decades later for all sorts of reasons... Watch it from the start and then think on Miller's brilliant point, one that transcends mere debate about race etc

  4. Yes, saw that too. Some are slating the media for not asking the right questions, some saying he did an amazing job. All obviously depends on which side of the fence you sit on, though I'd like the most powerful person in the world to be pressed on issues then be able at least to finish his sentence.

  6. https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/news/19180390.frank-worthington-passes-away-72-tributes-bolton-wanderers-team-mates/ Some good quotes from BW players in this article for anyone that's not seen it. As an aside, Peter Nicholson reminisces about that volley Worthy scored at City in 78/79 and claims to have put the cross in, it was Roy Greaves! And he thought Reid equalised with a pen, but that was a different game a year later when Worthy had left. I remember that game as my first ever away game, was sat in City end, their fans singing "City are back" when Tueart put them 2 up. Loved it when we came back to 2-2 with Reid's last minute pen.

  9. Genuine question. What impact did trump and his policies actually have on your life?

  10. For all this banal yakking about the extremes of left and right, I’m yet to find either of them having any impact whatsoever on my life. Meanwhile, an invisible virus has completely changed the way I have to live. Its hard to get worked up about some Levellers fans facing off with a mob of Adolfs

  16. And I'm still finding it quite unbelievable that normally intelligent folk who claimed that we definitely 100% won't have a second wave and should have cracked on from Christmas still think that they know better then the scientists and government.

  19. to "protect" those who haven't had the jab, such as m.o.n.g.s and young bar staff yet to have the jab last thing a pub wants is to open up then lose all their bar staff because they catch it, and shut again https://www.standard.co.uk/news/health/covid-vaccine-results-public-health-england-b921793.html not been confirmed yet, but that report from March 3rd says: "“But there’s really very good signs that this is going to at least reduce infection rates across the population, and hopefully ... prevent people passing it on almost completely if they’ve been vaccinated fully.”" no doubt we'll know more by the times the pubs are opening up on the inside

  20. 110% When I started work at the company I'm currently at, they were all Armini and Suits, were as I'm Jean's and get the job done. At one point in the interview I answered a question about appearances / roles etc. My answer was "would it matter to you if came dressed as coco the clown everyday if the sales were there?" I got the job This lad is a "character", so was Diouf. Hes not had chance to shine yet like Diouf did and may not. But to judge off what we've seen so far and what a young lad does on his own in a hotel 100s of miles from his family and friends in the middle of a pandemic is a little harsh.

  33. He’s right @London Wanderer they are the current scourge of our society these numpties. nobody is saying that far right Terror threat isn’t real. Of course it is and probably could be catastrophic. But in terms of who we keep seeing causing trouble and smashing places up attacking the police etc it’s a one sided story simple as that. They need dealing with before it just grows

  34. I was at all three, the DMB match, Blackburn and that goal and was in awe of Frank. I had the white shirt with Umbro trim which was worn all the time and then stored in my mums loft until she moved and threw it all out. I also wagged an afternoon off school to go to the opening of his clothes shop in town. Thanks for the memories Frank. RIP.

  39. Can't let this one go. Gave me the best three footballing moments of my life. Not in any particular order - that goal; Ewood Park; the double over the DMB's (this should probably be my number one as no other football moment has excited me to a point where I blacked out - the moment he knocked his second in at OT). RIP Frankie - loved, respected and never forgotten. If there are 70 virgins somewhere I hope you get 'em.
