  1. Whilst shes not covered herself in glory, the woman she was talking too could have cleared it up straight away but was just being a bit nobbish. Sistah Space?? Fuck off. Lady SH: Where are you from? Me: I'm from Hackney, my family are Carribean though. My parents came in the 50's. Thats how this conversation should have gone, stop looking to be offended. I ask people where they are from all the time at work, people are normally proud to explain their roots, and so they should be.

  5. i'm not racist and theres no but however, your superior attitude on this will turn folk right off theres fuck all offence meant when i ask somebody where they are from if somebody is offended, fair enough, say so and don't answer with me, its just a genuine interest, and yes, if they say blackburn, if i could be bothered with them id follow up with a question on heritage i think what im saying is you dont get to decide whats racist nor do you have to be black if somebody asked me where i was from, id say bolton and if they pushed beyond that id say ive not a clue

  6. More worrying is that the UK currently has 6 functioning nuclear power plants - owned and operated by the French state aka Electricite de France aka EDF. There were 7 last year until EDF decided to decommission Hinkley Point B "for safety reasons". All the UKs power plants are reaching end of life. And our government has just given EDF the contract for Sizewell C, and they're favourites to get Hinkley C plus the potential joint venture with CGN (Chinese) for Bradwell B. Then there's the energy providers: Eon (German) N Power (also German) Scottish Power (Spanish) etc etc As for the train operators : Arriva Wales, Chiltern Railways, Cross Country, Grand Central and Northern Rail - all German owned Thameslink, Southern, South Eastern, Great Northern and Gatwick Express - all French owned Greater Anglia, Stansted Express and Scotrail - all Dutch owned West Midland Rail and London Rail are owned by a Dutch / Japanese JV The irony is that whilst Thatcher went all in on selling off or franchising our national assets to private companies including our oil and gas, the foreign companies that operate and profit from them are mainly nationalised in their countries of origin e.g. EDF that owns and operates our nuclear plants is 83% owned by the French State - which is why the French Government faced with the recent massive hike in fuel prices were able to cap household fuel cost rises at 4% - and which as a result has kept inflation in France at a much lower level than we are experiencing in the UK - and making French businesses far more competitive than ours.

  8. I've given you a like as I completely agree. Apart from Poland, they have been battered in every game, even when they beat Saudi Arabia 2-0. But that's football I suppose.

  9. Same happened to Italy after 2006. By the same measure, this means Germany won't qualify for the next 2 World Cups

  10. Well done VAR - every image actually taken from along the line clearly shows the ball is still in play, albeit by a midge's dick. Won't stop wankers like Souness banging on about it based only on the images taken at 30 degrees to the line though. Overall, a fantastic day of football in possibly the best World Cup group stages I've seen - including 1966. Senegal, USA, Australia, Morocco, Poland and Japan are already in the mix for R16 - wow. Not sure if any of them will get any further but with the likes of Germany, Mexico, Belgium and Denmark having already fallen by the wayside, and a number of other usual suspects having received a bloodied nose - including France and Argentina - this World Cup is questioning the world order.

  20. No (and its a woman) read it further - its about societal structual racism not that people are just outwardly racist. That is a much more complex issue and that's what isn't always visible. It's sort of about intersectionality and race, and how this corresponds to lived experiences.

  21. The issue is here, and people don't like it because they dismiss it, but it is about structual racism, which isn't something I want to wade into on a football forum; but I have to say reading why I'm no longer talking to white people about race by Eddo-Lodge was a real change moment for me, and if people are interested in the topic well worth £8 of your cash and a few hours of your time.

  26. There's some folk who believe that to even ask the question is racist. It's a shame that it'll get asked less now because it's a reasonable ice breaker in a conversation and it gives the person a chance to chat about their heritage and roots if they choose to. She's a daft old bat though for pursuing the line of questioning when it clearly wasn't welcome.

  27. I'll bet that this article used tweets from people who were offended to make their point as it often the case these days the actors and all that won't have given it a 2nd thought but someone watches, sees something they don't like, tweets it, gets some likes and retweets and all of sudden this is representative of public opinon

  29. see that's a fair point too if she's dressed like that, then why not ask where she's from but not "really" from, like you don't believe her asked her where her style orginates from, compliment her look, say you'd like to know more about her origins it's like saying "where you from?" "hackney" "well you're not really are you, look at you" but she's 82 that's how it was back then see Prince Phillip

  35. This is how she was dressed at the event. Is that an Ethiopian flag in her hair? She can get to fuck. If this old bird is racist then she needs fucking over for 'cultural appropriation' as someone Mancunian through and through. If you ask Amir Khan (I know, I know) where he's from he'll tell you he's from Bolton but his heritage is Pakistani. Shes a dick

  36. looking at that conversation Lady SH: Where are you from? Me: Sistah Space. SH: No, where do you come from? Me: We're based in Hackney. SH: No, what part of Africa are you from? Me: I don't know, they didn't leave any records. I can't see why the conversation didn't end there you can say the woman was being twatty, but, so was the one asking the questions beyond that saw it in a kebab shop once round here, two pissed up girls chatting to guy behind the counter "where you from?" "fallowfield" "no but where are you really from?" "I live in fallowfield" "you're clearly not from fallowfield, where were you born?" "leeds" "yeah but where are you really from" "leeds" in the end they got to bottom of it, his parents were from Iran but can't blame those being asked for not automatically assuming they should straight away start explaining their way back through their family tree

If she turns up on some white supremacy websites, I will of course change my mind. But nah, this is a storm in a fancy China teacup.

  40. I’d bet that old lady had the same conversation with thousands of people down the years of black, white and oriental origins. And I bet 99.9% of the time the other person understood immediately that she was only showing an interest in their heritage. She wasn’t questioning that she was British, she was asking about origins. And most people are happy and proud to say where their families are from. Ancestry is a massive thing. We don’t and will never know the tone of the questions, but after 80 years or whatever of dealing with strangers every day, I know whose side I’m on here. The Sistah person was just being a cunt for likes on Twitter.
