  1. Just had a brief flick through. Not sure how to quote from there onto here. But there are quite a lot of “non-hating” posts not wishing oblivion on us. Posts about not wishing this in anyone, local rivalry, terrible owners, RIP to Eddie Davies, minority of obnoxious fans, sympathy for non payment of staff etc etc Listen I’m far from their biggest admirers. Cant stand those muppets who came over dancing round the stadium. And I’m very much in the camp of these shouldn’t be in the same stratosphere as us, so the sooner we overtake them, thrash them along the way the better. Anyone 30+ would never consider them a rival, but you are kidding yourselves if you think the youngsters think the same. I like games where there’s an edge, with a big away following, an excitement about beating a local team. Much more entertaining than Forest Green. But let that be as we pass them by in the league and the odd cup game, keeping us firmly as their superiors.

  2. True, but we achieved nothing by doing it. Played into their hands as it usually ended with a defender or the keeper playing it long anyway. Captain has got to demand it to be mixed up occasionally- we were far too easy to play against. A free press high up the pitch for them. When they did it, we didn't press in the same way as if we were a bit scared of being played around.

  3. Wembley 1-0 Bolton. Played like they're all constipated: couldn't pass wind and movement poor and erratic. Evatt also needs a look at himself: Jones on the left was a poor decision, won't/can't take it on his left foot, gave no outball for Embete and checked back each time. Cost us the first goal as the ball was played towards him rather than in front as it needs to be. Bradley showed the way on the right. In the end we were narrowed by a square peg in a round hole. And as for Shoretire, another pointless appearance. I'm sure he'll benefit from his spell here, but he's way off. Like Vale, as soon as Lee comes on his pressing, movement and ball use if far better. Trouble is, there was 18 minutes left and we were two down. Really don't understand the selection- it's not worked in recent games so why it would against a quality Ipswich team I don't know. Not sure what they were working on during the week, but it didn't work. I almost knew we'd miss the penalty and said to the chap next to me that the keeper would save it. They delayed the kick, and as soon as Dion started pressing the spot down with his boot, it was clear the spoiling tactics had worked. Can see Thomason getting a go, but unless the rest buck their ideas up, it will make little difference. Not the end of the world but a poor display all round. If some are hiding a bit waiting for Wembley, then they need a shoeing.

  4. Win the pizza cup and finish 7th. we aren’t good enough to beat any of the teams who don’t go up automatically. next season we have to go up.

  5. We've had all the evidence we need of our place in the pecking order in this league. Maybe we're unlucky at how many Championship quality sides there are in League 1 in 22/23. Maybe in the long term we'll be better for our exposure to such opposition. Either way we've got some way to travel before we get to the same standard consistently. As with all things BWFC over the past two years the exciting thing is that there's ambition. It's hard for Bolton fans to maintain patience when we're a tier 3 side but its likely more will be required.

  6. People don’t complain about Andrew Neil and Alan Sugar because they understand that these people are entitled to an opinion. They may not like it, and go all Woke, but they’re still entitled to their opinion. The problem here is that the defenders of free speech have gone after Lineker because - by no coincidence whatsoever - it’s an opinion they don’t like. The tables have turned. And it’s properly funny watching red faced chubsters struggle with the cognitive dissonance.

  7. A fully fit Lee over Shoretire any day of the week. He’s far too lightweight against a team like Ipswich. OK he played well at Charlton & Peterborough but that’s been about it. Lee is a steady 7/8 out of 10 most weeks and a very clever experienced player which you need in games like today.

  14. Indeed. I've mellowed considerably in recent years and I'm almost over the Stoke debacle, but I was as angry/frustrated at today's shambles as I've been for a very long time. Evatt picked the wrong team and is deluded in the post-match interview that saying it was fine margins, we were well beaten today, Ipswich could/should have scored plenty whilst we never looked like getting one, other than the penalty. As for the team, Evatt put out, not one of them emerges with any credit and we could easily have made 5 subs at half-time, yet none were made, perhaps Evatt thought it was too tight a contest as to who was playing the shittest. This 3 men pissing about in our 6yd box routine has to stop, it's inviting the high press. Our left hand side of defence was an absolute shambles with the one-footed Mbete inside of the one-footed Jones. One only hopes the rumours of another Evatt/Declan John bust-up are false. I like Dempsey, but he & Morley were dreadful today and given the chance, I'd fine Dempsey a week's wages for kicking the ball away. Shoretire offers very little when push comes to shove, he's like a kid playing against men and even contributed to the missed pen by arguing with Charles about who was taking it. Mind you, it wouldn't been a pen, if he'd converted the 1 on 1. Upfront Charles was unusually quiet and I'm not having that this Adeboyejo's worth half a million. His second touch is invariably a 50/50 challenge after the ball has bounced away from him. The two goals were farcical, both coming from our mistakes and the marking for the second was appalling. Really, really disappointing today and I can really see this season petering out into a 7th place finish combined with a Wembley defeat. Mind you, @tomski is correct when saying it's irrelevant where we finish, because we're not going up. Missing the play-offs might save me a few quid.

  15. Ps. Trafford is not a goalkeeper good under pressure, when teams press us and he has to clear it, his kicking is borderline abysmal. This is an issue that is in my eyes not being brought up enough. It's vital that when we are pressed, we fucking get the ball up the pitch and ease the pressure. His kicks can't even reach the half way line. Opposition win the headers, we lose 2nd balls, boom we are under intense pressure. And this also goes for our defenders, Mbete, Jones and Toal as well recently are not good enough to either pass their way out of pressure or just fucking kick it up into the stands. We invite so much pressure, and the fans can feel it every time at the back.

  18. The walking football was a nonsense today, again, we invited them to play the game in our half, they took advantage. Had at least 8 goal kicks first half and broke the press once, immediately giving it away when we did. With the back 3 of Johnston, Aimson and Toal, not only did we defend robustly and solidly, we got on with it from goal kicks and keeper possession, moving it forward with a bit of urgency and purpose. No way that Lee should be left out in big games, we're really short of nouse and need his a lot. The Jan window trick hasn't worked this time, unfortunately, collectively they have added zero to what we had. If anything, with Aimson and Dapo gone, we are weaker and the momentum we're used to from Feb onwards has dried up this time. We are too lightweight, too soft and too one-dimensional to get out of a division like L1. We hardly won a tackle all day, sometimes you have to put your foot through the ball and clean an opponent out rather than keep trying to nick it. Sometimes you have to shithouse your way to a win. We struggle to do either. Much as it's against Evatt's principles, laudable as they are, we need a few more signings next window whose stats and profiles major heavily on blocks, clearances, tackles made and duels won

  21. No meltdown from me but when things aren’t working at 0-0 then it’s no good waiting until we’ve been one down for 20 minutes before thinking of making changes. Far too many collective off days and nobody really capable of grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck. In a similar way to Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the season, Ipswich had done their homework on us and we had no idea how to respond to that. Those goal kicks were an absolute farce. It was like being transplanted back to the start of the season with such fragile confidence across the team. As soon as the penalty was missed, it was like every single head hit the floor and all semblance of organisation went with it. Big ask on Friday but we travel in hope.

  22. Must be exhausting being constantly worried about the Albanians. Believing every word you read in the Express and Daily Mail as if it’s gospel. I’ll repost @Spider‘s link here for an honest look at immigration- we really do have bigger problems right now. Not that we shouldn’t do something, but it’s odd how obsessed people are about it.

  24. I'm struggling to work out whether Evatt is really stupid, or really arrogant. Probably a bit of both.... We said as soon as the team was announced that Jones shouldn't be on the left wing, and that Shoretire should never be picked in front of Lee, best player at the club... Whether playing the right players in those positions would've made a difference, well we'll never know.... On another note AHM's self proclaimed top boy was seen leaving early. Very surprised as he makes out he's a super fan... Also heard that Casino has had to kick out the young lads from the AHM WhatsApp group chat due to pressure from the old guys, allegedly....

  25. Probably based on our inability to score in virtually every game against any of the leading teams, Plymouth have beaten every one of the top 8 or 9 at least once.

  26. If you keep on doing what you’ve always done, don’t expect the outcome to change. We absolutely need someone who can decide mid-game that playing out from the back isn’t working and we need to mix it up a bit. Ipswich knew all they needed to do was lurk on the edge of our box while our goalie and defenders fucked about.

  27. I don’t have a problem with playing out from the back but we just need to be quicker at it instead of the walking football. If you look back a couple of months our back 3 of Johnson, Aimson and Toal were superb, even Traf threw the ball out quicker as the backs weren’t standing a yard away from him and the midfield could then actually function. I’m not disagreeing that Rico isn’t a better player than Aimson but somebody, IE hopefully, has to tell him that being so slow is just causing us problems and he needs to get a shift on getting the ball upfield.

The whole club from the cleaners to the old guy in the stands they properly hate us .It really is not normal. It looks like they are going to drop this season so if the suspended points deduction is applied it probably won't make a difference. Hopefully it goes on next season . Fuck em

  42. Stuart Ripley showed us his class on his debut on loan as a teenager (home to Newport) in the mid 80s, did nowt in his remaining month with us. John Gregory joined us on loan in around 1990. Was a veteran by then - but came on as a sub and looked classy v Tranmere. This despite having to play at centre back because Mark Came had gone off injured. Chris Basham played as a teenager in a home game v United under Megson and looked the part. Barely played for us again before we flogged him.

  44. For anyone interested here is how the Burnden disaster came to be "remembered" again It remained completely forgotten by the club until 1989 In quick succession we had experienced 3 major disasters affecting English Football in the 1980s - Bradford , Heysel and most recently Hillsborough. BWFC announced at the beginning of the 1989/90 season a series of testimonial events for Nat Lofthouse - there was a book published and a match played against Man City and various functions were organised. Shortly afterwards an article appeared in the BEN about a lady called Mrs Coward (i think that was her name - might have been Howard?) who had lost a close relative in the disaster and commenting that it was completely forgotten. ( Think the relative had been her husband or brother - again i cannot clearly remember ) Anyway a couple of us got talking and an emotive open letter was written and published in the BEN basically asking the club to justify remembering the career of a player who had devoted 50 years of his working life to the club, yet at the same time choosing to completely ignore the wishes of the likes of Mrs Coward and not in any way mark the site of the disaster at which 33 people had 40 odd years earlier lost their lives. The inference being there was money to be made out of remembering the one and nothing to be made out of the other. Things then when silent. Then I had a conversation with Gordon Sharrock , who in essence said they dont know how to reply to the letter and wont , but they admit they are embarrassed by the situation and want to do something about it - watch this space. Within a few months Mrs Coward had been contacted by the club, it was announced a plaque would be erected and she would be invited to the unveiling , which i guess was in 1990 ? From then on it was remembered more and more - with a very well attended service at Bolton Parish Church in 1996 marking the 50th anniversary.
