  2. You really quite like trying to be the ringmaster don't you. There are a number of people of my acquaintance/knowledge including local councillors where I live in Oxfordshire, academics in the same area and one or two folk at work. The thing they have in common is that they are all as bumptious as hell. It's a trait I associate with you too.

  10. Hello all I am from Surrey. I have recently started following Bolton as I am a big fan of their attractive attacking football and Ian Evatt who appears to be a brilliant coach and a down-to-earth and humble guy. I will be following the team and hoping that they deservedly make it back to the championship. As a football fan, it was so sad to see what happened to the club in recent times and it is wonderful to see Bolton climbing back through the leagues again and on their way to former glories.

  12. I agree on Gervais he has moments of absolute comedy genius and at times very grounded despite his massive fame. But he just seems an annoying prick too. I mentioned him as the aggressive atheism is him all over but his routine is as unwoke as you get. Found that link hard to follow. I also agree on religion/faith at this time of year from school nativity to senior church groups there are countless examples of when it is clearly a good thing.

  13. As good a place as any - Conor Carty and Luke Mathison both signed contract extensions. They obviously rate them for the longer term

  14. ... & good for Watkins for burying that idea. All to easy to throw that card in. (Would have been fun tbh if he'd asked the interviewer "Why ? Are you implying I'm nothing more than a block guy ?")

  15. Remember reading in Andy Morrisons book about some bloke giving him personal abuse when was assistant manager for Andy Preece at an away game. He didnt want to let his mate down and get involved on the day and figured this bloke was a regular as he was in full attire and stood behind dugouts. They had a home game the following weds and his team werent playing so he drove up there and went in the stand and saw the bloke giving abuse to the teams staff again. He followed him to the toilets and smashed his face in.

  16. Did it for years with mine as you know. Before he was working, but drinking, a London distance away trip including travel, tickets, beer & food would cost me £300 day-trip and £400+ if overnight hotel. I just wouldn’t pay it these days. It’s not VFM. Thank God my second was a girl!!!!

  17. Scored then walked into the net and just stood there pointing at one bloke who'd been giving him shit all game. Didn't say "fuck you " or anything, but it was a massive fuck you. Asked after the game if he'd do it again, he said yes. Good on him.

  18. I think folk will just pick and choose more. I know I find now being a shit fan much easier when it’s Monday 8pm in Portsmouth than I would have done many years ago. luckily the tv coverage means it is easier to pick and choose. i am quite fortunate as I have no responsibilities but seeing some of the costs my friends have to go through taking their kids it’s silly. Preston fan mate is doing all 92 with his lad. Reckon it’s gonna bankrupt him

  19. For the record I just want us to change it up occasionally. The lack in variety I think catches us out. Not every ball has to go in the middle. Some Could go wide. Maybe even throw it out quickly once in a while

  21. Another reason why Gervais should have been put to pasture after that second series of scarine shite he did. He is aggressive in his Atheism, basically saying if you believe in anything you are a fool. He misses so many complexities of what it is to be self aware, but yet have so little idea about the vastness. I totally agree with the ideas; just don't like the arrogance or the dismissive attitude to faith that it breads. Think about the hymns you've sung, the joy of seeing a place of faith in a shitty community, a call to pray over the Bosphorus or hearing a choral choir on Christmas Morning or at Epiphany. Small moments of beauty. Save me from a totally secular world. As humans we need faith, in its many beautiful forms.

  22. I think I'm in a minority where ticket pricing wouldn't really put me off going to an away game. The amount of money away games cost, what's another tenner? A pint and a half?

  24. Yes - great stuff again. Love seeing the inside track from the club & players perspective. They care. Dust in the eye moments listening to Gethin reliving Wembley in particular. We need to keep reminding ourselves (esp on bad days like yesterday) that the club continues to head the right direction.
