  1. Run their course!! FFS! Turned club round completely, record ST sales, upgrading hotel, put in fanzone, got the town on side brought in Swiss investors, invested in good players, got us promoted, could be promoted again this season… who you think gonna come in and do better… you’re away with the fairies.

  2. No coach at any level coaches to leave players unmarked on the edge of the penalty areas from corners. It’s lack of communication from the playing group and nothing to do with Evatt or coaches. Seems a stick to beat Evatt with, especially for those who’ve wanted him out for months… utterly ridiculous, he’s got his faults but the positives outweigh the negatives.

  3. If we would have won every game of the season we would have gone up I reckon. 'We drop points against the top 6' -we dropped to many points against the bottom 10' 'Wigan beat us again, we list at blackpool' I honestly think some folk expected us to win every single league game - this is football, it doesn't happen.

  6. But we don’t know what the players are coached to do and at corners it’s always the same 11 players in the box that as to be on IE and I am convinced the players are told to stick to the system no matter what.

  7. The above quote is not the first comment to say this, but the absence of Santos was nowhere near the biggest of our problems tonight. The first Shrewsbury goal was almost a carbon copy of the Portsmouth goal on Saturday … when Santos played. The second goal came from a focus on defending our penalty area with all 11 players and ignoring everything outside the box … which is what we do for every corner, with or without Santos. He’d have been involved in the push and shove around the six yard box that all three defenders were tied up with. Nothing would have changed. By far the biggest problem, on the pitch, was the midfield setup and, specifically, Thomason’s woeful attempt to play the Sheehan role. Morley has been unfairly criticised for not being up to Sheehan’s standard, when he’s deputising. In my opinion, Morley in the role, is light years ahead of what we saw from Thomason, tonight. However, the overall biggest problem was off the pitch: Ian Evatt. The midfield problem (I don’t want to call it the Thomason problem; it was a tactical mistake) was evident within the first quarter of a hour. I was willing it to be changed by half an hour, and it had to be changed at half time. But it never changed. Was Morley injured, as well? If so, the formation could have been changed. But Evatt did nothing. The second major issue was the final substitutions. I far prefer Ogbeta to Williams, but I’m going to pass over Williams’ minimal contribution when he came on. This was always a 40-60 call, to try something different. The most unbelievable decision was to replace Dempsey with Nlundulu. First of all, Dempsey was almost the last player I thought should have been replaced. Admittedly, he didn’t have a great first half; Jerome, aside, who did? But in the second half, we saw a lot of the old Dempsey and, for me, he was behind or involved in most of our creative stuff. However, Nlundulu was never going to offer anything. In his loan last season, he offered nothing, and I was amazed (and annoyed) when we then paid significant money for him. in the first half of the season he showed nothing to change my (very low) opinion, before injuring himself in a bizarre and inept attempt to score a penalty. Why would be any different after his absence? He wasn’t, though all the front line weren’t helped by the loss of Dempsey from the midfield. ian Evatt: tonight and previous poor performances are on you.

  14. Failure to go up and I think IE will walk, nicely dressed up by FV. He’s aged considerably and I don’t think he’s handling the pressure too well. If he can’t get us up this year then he won’t manage it next season in a far stronger league. Yes he’s connected the town with the football club again but progress has been too slow and he’s simply not savvy enough, too stubborn, emotional & inconsistent in his behaviour. There are so many similar themes to last season from both a results & performance perspective too. Anyway FV need to show some balls, and appoint someone with a proven track record if we fail in the play-offs. Warne will have been promoted 4 times from L1 after this season. It may not be pretty football but who cares. It works.

  15. Tight budget? 😂 Apart from Charlton paying £1.4m for a Hammers reserve, we’ve spent more than anyone in this league by a mile.

  16. Not scapegoating, mate, not my style. They were all shit last night, apart from Maghoma and possibly Jerome. I was merely offering an alternate to the 'strikers missing easy chances' script. If you keep clean sheets, you can't lose and only need a goal to win. We shouldn't need to be scoring three to beat Shrewsbury at home.

  18. Fair points and I do agree, why would you leave when you could get a payout by digging your heels in? I do think the board have treated him exceptionally well though and I think not getting promoted would really damage his ego and he may want a break. For that reason I do think there’s a chance in this instance he could walk. I do hope I get to see him shed some tears of joy upon promotion. These last few years must have really taken it out of him. Trying to rally yourself to go again after going close to promotion twice in a row would not be an easy task. Whereas promotion would spur him on and incentivise him. I think it’s Playoffs for us at this point. I think we will get to the final where we will either win 5-0 or go out with a whimper in a drab 1-0 loss. Don’t even want to think about penalties.

  21. In my opinion IE was just shifting the blame onto the players with his comment about the corner routine. If he has had that discussion pre match with the players, how come even after they scored that goal, no one was picking up the attackers on the outside of the box. Surely if it had been discussed and was a mistake from the players point of view, then the player in the same position is picked up on the next corner which didn’t happen.

  25. Remember Orient at home when we were 3-0 up and looking world beaters. There was a break in play and Ritchie Wellens got into his players and changed the system. We ended up clinging onto a 3-2. Plenty other examples of opposition managers making changes mid-game to change the flow. Can't remember one time Evatt's done that this season. And that's Ritchie fucking Wellens.

  26. Bury needed to win their last 2 games for promotion (into same league Colls will be in). Lost 2-1 to Padiham in a game played at FC United because Bury pitch is so shit (FC United pitch is also shit so it must be fucking bad). Shame.

  27. I don’t agree he was out coached or out thought… simply came down to a another error not organising a defender to sit on the edge of the box, that’s the basics and the players are to blame.

  29. Not trying to be a smart arse after the event but I haven't seen us getting autos for a couple of months and we've only still been in with a sniff till last night because of the others continually stumbling. Our stumbling started in Jan and has continued throughout the last few months. Lots of factors, all discussed already. The run of injuries has been a bad one for sure, both (at the time) first choice strikers, main CB and No1 keeper difficult for most sides to absorb. Ultimately though, we have had too many occasions where individuals or the group haven't shown they have the bollocks, in specific situations like Ogbeta's last night and in whole game situations against sides who are fired up and know we're easily fucked about with. That's down to Evatt's laudable but too stubborn belief that playing a certain way and recruiting purely to do that will win out in the end. It may still do of course, and he'll be entitled to dig his receipts out and spray them over the pitch at Wembley like confetti, if we don't succeed in the play offs though there'll need to be some hands held up and clear evidence of a will to change before we go again in August

  30. Ogbeta not putting his head in where it hurts and simply nodding the ball into the net is the most perfect example of our team. Beautiful football before it, chance on a plate, needs some bollocks to just finish it off and we’ve got a whole half to go and get the winner. He shit out of it. It absolutely optimises that extra 5% that makes you a top team. On very rare occasions we look like we have it (Barnsley away) but by this point in the season you can see the wider trend and the answer is we simply don’t. This isn’t an Evatt out, it all rests on him blah blah, but ultimately he has to recruit players that give you that extra 5% in the crucial moments, or instil it into them so Ogbeta knows he has no choice but to put his head on that, or he may as well not go back into the changing rooms after. As for the rest of it, it’s pretty well covered by what others have said - Dempsey, Iredale and Forester were horrendous - GT showed again just why he can’t play the Sheehan role. There isn’t one player in our team anywhere near as important as Sheehan IMO. I agree with the poster though that said Morley has to play when Sheehan is out, he’s been far from great this season but he’s the only one that would make that midfield balanced last night. Awful tactical decision (and no ability / reluctance to admit that and change it) - Maghoma looked like a footballer playing with his mates at times, it was embarrassing how he had to try and do everything because the rest were so shit - Charles looked way off it. Pretty sure he was feeling his knee at one stage and then came over to get pills. Hope that was just precautionary - Dan is not the saviour. We’ll soon realise just how shit he was before our memories of him started to fade Form table shows that we were never going to make the automatics. In the last 15 games, just as the going got tough our form would have seen us just cling onto a play off place. Comes back to my original point, we haven’t got the spuds. Saying all that, I still think that a fit Santos, Sheehan and Charles into that team and we’ll be reet in the play offs. Without them though, we’ve no chance.

  31. That's like playing Kane in Centre Midfield. Bellingham could play anywhere on the pitch he's that good. He plays no 10 for the biggest club on the planet and has been exceptional. If Southgate had bothered to let some other CBs have a go we could afford to use Stones like he's often used for City. But no. We have pack our CDM with pivots to protect our weak as piss back line.

Results by the top 3 against the top 6 Us P9 W2 D5 L2 Pompey P10 W6 D4 L0 Derby P10 W4 D4 L2 throw in your wigans, Carlisle, Leyton Orient, Northampton, Bristol rovers and it’s exactly the same trend as last year. Don’t win enough against your competition and too many under par performances where we should’ve been getting more. Where does the buck stop? looking ahead to the play offs and that record shouldn’t really give us much hope either.. “on our day…” but we don’t have our day over the course of 2 or 3 games in a row

  34. Glad we took Derby to the wire. Saying that I think it’s better it’s done and we have a couple of league games to feel sorry for ourselves and get ready for the play offs. Form guide on all is pretty shit but that’s us included. I’d want Oxford over 2 legs as opposed to Barnsley. That said second half of the season the only team I’d wanna play is Cambridge home and away😂 Ill be honest, I’m not confident. Let’s hope It’s misplaced.

  37. Definitely not had any luck/bounce of the ball/ rub of the green etc. In the last 2 games we have hit the woodwork 5 times , had 3 cleared off the line, denied a stonewall penalty & conceded 3 goals from 4 shots all by giving the ball away high up. Saving our luck for the play-offs when it really matters. The rest of the teams in there are bobbins . we will walk the play-offs with an amzing home performance , an average away one and a blistering win at Wembley and all is right with the World again.

  38. Happy with the job Evatt has done and wouldn’t mind him for another year if we fail to go up. Stability is an underrated commodity in football. He’s a good manager, not yet shown himself to be excellent though. But do you want to risk starting from scratch with a new man? I feel he Evatt needs this promotion for the fan base’s support in general. He’s had 3 seasons to build a team capable of League 1 promotion and too often we’ve been lacking in important games and moments. Some bad luck yes - but when it’s happening consistently it is difficult to keep taking it. The Wigan defeats, the Blackpool loss, the Derby loss. Dont think last season was our “time” to go up. Seemed written in the stars for Sheffield Weds, but this year we’ve had an easier league and Evatt has built this team with substantial funding and backing. I wouldn’t be surprised if he walked before he was pushed should we fail to go up.

  39. Also with Evatt, there's definitely some things he could do better, he's not perfect by any means. But at the end of the day, his tactics has given us the ability to dominate most matches, even against the league leaders. It's down to the players who are not putting them away from 2 yards out.
