  1. It would be an eclectic mix, with summat for everyone. MickyD gets a pop inspired highlight While Casino's is darker and takes the audience down a different route but to finish off Gonzo provides a tearjerker (not sure where he's "going back to"? Chippy near Preston? North Stand Upper? Wembley?). And who are the other WWers accompanying him.

  2. Sad times.. some of my greatest football memories were cup replays… Newcastle trilogy being the pinnacle, anyone who hasn’t experienced the FA cup and replays before the FA ruined it has missed something very, very special.

  5. Maybe Portsmouth have won the league because they practice attacking headers, unlike us.

  10. That's how I see it, I don't see how the standard of results at any time of the season have been much different to any other part of the season. Failure to beat the top teams home or away (unless v 10 men for half a game) and generally good results against the rest with the odd shocker thrown in. And still no home defeat for 4 months, compared to 3 by mid December to non promotion contenders. I don't see the difference of having Charles playing at Derby, Wigan & Blackpool - the period that has cost us most - when he wasn't scoring goals against that standard of opponent in the first place. Charles & Vic both played v Orient, Barnsley (home), Northampton etc, 3 relatively recent games which have cost us 2nd spot as much as any. The longer the season goes on, the better our pre-Christmas performances are getting, when not only were the opponents lower in the table, but we only played 9 away before Christmas compared to 12 at home.

  11. Well let’s finish on something we agree on. Take out the local games and I agree performance wise that 10/25 creates a false picture, we are better than that. I do feel some of those key players could have made marginal differences if fit in some of those games. Regardless of who is fit and available in the play-offs it will need those top level performances with chances being taken, and if we do then going up is still very much a possibility.

  12. Adequate replacements for less influential players. For me, we need to start talking about other factors with the defeats that have been highlighted; attitude in local derbies, tactical flexibility (especially in away games), mental preparedness. All valid debates for improvement. Those games weren’t lost because Santos, Baxter, Charles aren’t top L1 players. It’s not a violin out, uneducated crying excuse. The points picked up in this league have been influenced by our key players, lots of whom have gone on to be injured. If the debate is just about injuries, we have been more negatively influenced by being without our better players.

  14. But surely you see that those Portsmouth players obviously weren’t as influential as the players we’ve had out? They didn’t miss them, they won the league. We have shown we are not winning the league with our key players out for lengthy spells. in that third quarter of the season without our key players we went through a shocking spell. What do we do next year if they’re injured? Buy players equally as good as Sheehan, Santos, Baxter, Charles? Crikey we’d be splashing out another few million for reserve players

  15. I think it’s a fair argument, that two clubs can be hit with the same amount of injuries, but one set of injuries effect one side the greater, because you’ve lost a higher quality and/or a bigger influence in your team. I don’t think it’s a case of you don’t want to accept it. While it’s still an opinion, it’s more than valid to accept that; Regan Poole, Joe Morrell, Terry Devlin, Tom McIntyre are nowhere near as important to Portsmouth as; Our top scorer and at the time one of the best L1 strikers Charles Our Captain and top L1 defender Santos Best midfielder in the league Sheehan One of the best Keepers in the league Baxter. Plus a whole host of other influential injuries/absentees; CMG, JDB, Vic, Jones There’s no way your squad replacements can be at the same of level of quality/influence as those.

  16. This board was awash with complaints a couple of months ago because we had such a fixture backlog. Nobody wanted to play 2 more games to get us to Wembley with a chance of lifting back to back trophies. Yet now a rule comes in to prevent further fixtures over the winter and it’s met with a backlash because you want a midweek FA cup replay in Hull. Make your minds up 😆

  19. Vic and Dan's injuries both came at a cruel time, just when it looked like they were starting to find some sort of form (Vic moreso than Dan of course). I reckon we'd have secured 2nd place at least by now if they'd been available throughout. And that's before you even get to Baxter, Charles and Santos' lengthy spells out. The disappointing second half of this season isn't Evatt's fault.

  22. No we certainly don’t Big E and I frankly can’t understand why IE signed him. If you look at his Burton goals, all but 3 were in and around the 6 yard box and that’s also true of most of Vics for us. He just isn’t an “Evatt” player who runs about chasing down defenders but get him into the danger area and I’m sure we’d see a completely different Victor. If I were Vic I’d be looking for a club that suits my style better because he’s always going to struggle here since IE won’t be changing his methods.

  34. Evatt has been a big part of turning this club around but i like others think rightly or wrongly he has run his course. Season ticket sales are great but you as well as i know 15k people have not bought one season ticket each. The fanzone was inside, now it is outside in the rain and cold. If there was a couple of pubs on the complex it would be deserted. The Swiss investors are a strange one. I dont buy that a bunch of families all of a sudden want to parade around Zurich with Bolton tops on. FV have diluted there holdings in the club why??? Simple they dont want to invest more than what they bought the club for. Again they are clever business people so i cannot fault them but obviously they are not prepared to through money around. The Government, Swiss and the Bond scheme have invested in players and infrastructure as laid out. See you just come out with statements like i am away with the faries............I countered everything you say. It is a forum.....I may be wrong maybe right but at least let people air their views

  35. Get accused of being a happy clapper by some. Expecting too much, we are stable financially and that's the over riding issue with football teams, there's Premiership teams being docked points for over spending atm, despite it happening to Us, Bury, Wigan, Derby etc, there are still teams where it's happening.. Finished 5th last season on 81 points with 62 goals , Currently on track for 2nd/3rd with potentially 89 points and at least 81 goals... How is that not progression? It might not be the progression people want but it IS progression, As for the striker situation... Out of 6 strikers, Dan, Dion, Victor, Gomes all injured, (1.25m worth??) JDB was coming back from a serious injury Collins was new to the club, and tbh can't fault him so far.. Jerome is one of the oldest players in the league and clearly is there as his swansong before going into coaching.. We've had a really bad injury to one of last seasons best players (Dempsey) Morley hasn't been the same since being bullied out of the game at Wigan and has made a few cameos (nobody saw that coming) Not to mention our club captain missing about 12 games for various reasons, our First choice keeper being injured.. So unless we have a huge squad and overspend on wages, we always run the risks which have impacted us this season. For me Evatt needs and deserves another season regardless, but if we're in this situation next year, it needs addressing.. FWIW think it's great that we have a manager that so many clubs get wound up about.

Turned club round completely, record ST sales, upgrading hotel, put in fanzone, got the town on side brought in Swiss investors, invested in good players, got us promoted, could be promoted again this season… who you think gonna come in and do better… you’re away with the fairies.
