  3. You can debate all you want and (over) analyse our performance to death, but we are in the semis of the euros Italy, Portugal, Germany, Belgium and 40 other European countries aren’t. Fuck em. Fuck any rivals, fuck our jealous British bit-part nations, fuck the nations who’d love to be where we are but aren’t, fuck the Dutch who think they’ll ride past us in the Semis, the French and Spanish who think their biggest games are before the final, fuck the Southgate haters who’d rather us lose because of some political ideals, fuck anybody who wants England to fail. We are coming for you all. This is our time. COME ON ENGLAND 👏👏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

  8. Where did you get this 'well known fact' from? Not denying that there are issues, which you talk about in your next post, but the majority of my time isn't spent controlling bad behaviour. It's a part of the job, but not the biggest part. Yes this is one of the problems. But at the same time teachers don't just waltz in demanding respect anymore. There is an acceptance, to an extent, that you have some sort of responsibility to earn respect. Simple stuff like staying calm, being kind and a decent role model to all kids (including the 'unruly' ones) makes a lot of difference. I'm honestly not sure there was ever a golden age in British education. Things aren't great now, but can't say things have been much better before imo. In fact, we've made a lot of good progress in schools. Like the NHS, we need more investment. Class sizes should be smaller. My biggest problem isn't the bad behaviour in the class, it's that there are 33 in my class and 1 teacher. Can't support everyone as well with that ratio. Exam driven, attainment obsessed, academic learning is also wasted on a significant chunk of pupils. And if we continue to push it on those it's not relevant for, then behaviour will only worsen. Need to be more flexible and focus on creating resilient young people who can manage their emotions and be successful in their own way. Rather than obsessing only over league tables and exam results.

  10. This is exactly my view on it. There are 2 ways you can review his performances in tournaments, and both are completely reasonable in my opinion. You look at it holistically in terms of overall outcome: World Cup Semi and Quarter Euros Final and Semi (at least) It’s a brilliant record and you can’t take that away from him. Previous managers have sometimes struggled to even qualify so to not only do that comfortably every time but to also take us deep into each one has to be recognised and applauded. The other is game by game, specifically once you get into the knockouts of each tournament. The record is Won Columbia (pens) Sweden Senegal Germany Ukraine Denmark Slovakia (ET) Switzerland (pens) Lost Croatia France Italy Other than Germany, who it’s fair to say were a shadow of their usual selves at that point, there is not one game from those that we’ve won that would have said beforehand we shouldn’t have. Of course, you’ve still got to beat them and in knockout football that’s easier said than done, but you can’t get away from just how lucky he’s got with the draws in each tournament - it’s likely had he lost any of the others, he wouldn’t have been given the next tournament. At the first point we have played anyone decent we’ve been out - people saying “Germany, Portugal and Italy might have looked better than us this tournament but are out” is clearly accurate, but if anyone thinks that we wouldn’t also be if we’d have been on that side of the draw then they’re kidding themselves. I really hope we go on and win it and he goes out on a high. His record would look phenomenal and he seems like a really good bloke. I do still think that he’s a poor manager though and would prefer someone else taking us to the next World Cup.

  11. Ive promised my 18 year old daughter , who is struggling with depression/anxiety I would make her a CD of different moods . If she wants to be angry , if she wants to be sad, if she wants to be lifted up etc. Ive told her all emotions are ok its just how we react to those feelings that helps or hinders us . when I was her age in the early 90s , we played songs to get us pumped up for a night out , but I think its different for kids these days . She is a "young " 18 year old pretending to be worldly wise and whilst I worked my shit out with Maiden , Queen, Deep Purple, Led Zepplin, Black sabbath , I dont think that will work with her. I can do the Anger stuff , Hed PE , Hot Action Cop, Type O negative etc I thought maybe younger girl power stuff like Pink or Aria Grande but thats not cool . Then I thought of Enya & Evanesence, even Avril Lavigne and Black eyed Peas. She seems to be descending into rape rap and this is propably just how my parents felt when I got into Slayer, Venom, Exodus etc Any advice and , just cool songs is more than welcome . Tho if I mention Cat Stevens and Paul Simon one more time I think she is just gonna spit in my face.

  12. Absolutely pathetic reading this thread. I'm a Conservative party member, so here's my outlook despite that, Calling a woman scruffy etc is misogynistic, you wouldn't say it about a bloke etc, absolutely no need to be doing that regardless of your opinion on her looks etc. Reading opinions about women in politics on here's like stepping back into the 70's, looks first, shaggability second, anything else comes last.. it's like stepping back into the 70's. I hope she does well, we need a shake up rather than the posh types running the show, because if she doesn't it sets the bar back for other women and those from diverse backgrounds.. May, Truss and Thatcher were all given a hard ride from the start, what's the connection, this one needs a chance rather than being hounded before she starts her first day of work. Not many Grandma's that are second in charge of a country.. Even as a tory member I want labour to do well, hoping they're all booted out next election but do well for the country till that point. Anyone wanting them not to is a bit of a narcissist I'm afraid. Opposition is there to hold them to account, not to block progress, which is what's happened for the last 14 years.

  17. Really don't understand folk rubbing their hands hoping for the government to fail. It's in everyone's best interests that this government does well - regardless of which "team"you support - and for reasons far beyond our short term well-being.

  19. Agreed. I don't get some of the pelters he gets off some on here. He had a great first season, made team of the year and a replacement would set us back a few hundred grand. If he's still got a couple of years left on his contract I'd be telling Pompey what to do with such a lame offer.

  22. For a manager whose style of play is reliant on good wingbacks it would be a blow selling the clubs best wing back.I don't think the club would sign a better one for 500k in the next few weeks.Anyway it doesn't matter really because Bolton won't be promoted next season whther Cogley stays or goes. The real issue which half the fans on here voted for after hs pathetic effort against Oxford is that Bolton need a better manager

  23. The thing thrown at Southgate has always been that if we play a heavyweight team in a knockout match overseas we don't win. Its great that we're in the semi again but the question of how we play against a better side hasn't been addressed yet. 95% or whatever of other teams get to test themselves against a top team during qualifying for tournaments. Then if they do get through they face a top seeded team in the group stages of the tournament, we never do. We rarely get to play one before the semi (last WC we lost in Q-Fs to France but if we'd played Switzerland we would have probably progressed to the semi and GS would have 4 under his belt instead of 3). As an England fan, its great, can't wait for the semi. But to laud Southgate for getting this talented group of players to scrape past Slovenia and Switzerland is over the top IMO (1 game and 4 draws in 90 minutes against average opposition). Each to their own but I won't be judging the England manager whoever he is on the games played so far, more questions than answers.

  32. We didn’t have a shot on target until around the 70th minute. There’s a huge overreaction to that performance because a) we’re through, and b) the bar is so low due to previous performances. The main thing is absolutely being through, and you can’t knock it, but let’s not pretend that we’re suddenly brilliant. It was just ever so slightly less shit than the previous 4 games. Let’s hope we’re less shit again in the semi and find a way to win that.

  40. Oh fuck yeah we can. There's always something. Thought we were marginally better tonight. Foden did well, won possession a few times (I never had him down as a ballwinner) and was directing traffic early doors, Saka showed something of what he can do instead of passing backwards, we pressed as a team for a change and Konsa was great with superb positioning and some good blocks. All a bit slow though and it was predictably late taking Kane off - the game was far more suited to runners like Watkins and the likes of Gordon or Bowen wide left. Holland will be a different challenge as we enter the land of the giants - we'll need to be quicker and work harder.

  41. I’m still trying to work out how we can be so slow and boring with so many quick, skilful and exciting players on the field. If we just moved the ball quicker we’d surely win these games comfortably? I know it’s a system so many clubs are now adopting but this slow stuff is just so boring.

  42. Couldn't beat Switzerland in 120 minutes, celebrating like they've won the world cup. BBC coverage is awful, what on earth are they watching - pundits all too young and too friendly with the team, unable to give an objective view of that crap like ITV to their credit did.

  43. Initially those who arrive illegally and can’t prove or identify where they’re from. The flights can and must move quickly but it’s not about numbers it’s about deterrent and who’s going to pay the traffickers thousands just to end up in Rwanda? The aim is to stop them coming in the first place surely?

  44. There’s no way they’ll ever smash the gangs, they operate worldwide so who exactly is going to do the smashing? Rwanda will now work with the other 15 countries considering a similar scheme whilst we continue to build up numbers here. Like I said, Labour haven’t answered because they haven’t got an answer. Smashing the gangs is just pie in the sky but I suppose it sounds good until you actually have to do it. At least with Rwanda it was only the ECHR standing in the any.
