  1. I say we trust the set up that have unearthed a raft of more than capable league 1 footballers with a higher value to when they signed. And let's not forget year on year progression in league finishes. I'd rather trust them than a gaggle of amateur football coaches and cranks all over social media.

  2. Hmm, plenty of us think he's decent. Got in, played well, then dropped once injuries cleared up. I reckon he has a future here- Jones won't be around that much longer.

  3. Not for much longer with that strike force

  4. I hope he goes there, stays injury free and establishes himself as a League 1 striker. The business of updgrading a squad involves successfully offloading those surplus to requirements as well as buying in better players. That's what we're seeing here.

  5. It is when you consider large portions of society struggle to park in between two lines on a carpark or use a mini-roundabout.

  6. I honestly do not know anyone like this. Trust as others are saying they do that they exist. My partner got pensioned off work for ill health about 10 years ago and I went to her PIP interview (think it was called PIP at the time). The questions were as basic as can you get yourself up and walk downstairs , she said yes, so could not get anything. Her work had said she could not do her job and a big multi national organisation did not have any suitable alternative so they pensioned her off. Went from £30k plus salary to £1k per month. People knowing how to play the system destroy it for people who need the system.

  8. Correct me if I’m wrong because I do get confused a lot but didn’t you say you had a degree in EngLt? 3 years at uni and the best you can come up with on a football forum is ‘crumblies’? What a waste of an education. 😊

  9. Your post is far more balanced than others of late, but there’s a lot of “experts know what they’re doing and fans don’t” at the moment. There’s plenty of evidence (inside and out of football) to suggests that experts don’t always know best. Ar least until midnight, Sunderland still hold the record third tier transfer fee paid. Over £3 million for Will Grigg, who delivered 5 goals in 47 appearances over three seasons in the third tier. Closer to home, just look at the overwhelming reaction of Bolton fans, to the news that we’d paid good money - £300k - to sign Dan Nlundulu, who’d done nothing in half a season on loan. 15 months later, and it’s definitely average fan 1 expert Evatt 0. Let’s not dismiss the opinions of fans who’ve watched and studied the game closely, for many years or even decades, but have never worked professionally in football.

  10. I guess they'd have to offer more than we value him at He's part of our plan, the plan is promotion Losing him weakens us, would need a ready made replacement of equal of better standard On deadline day I'm happy for him to stay

  13. He’s had about a handful good 20 minute spells in a year and a half. He might be physically big but he barely ever dominates defenders and I’ve never seen him win a flick on or cushion a ball down to another player If we are going long in the last 10 he’s the last thing we need to be booting it to. Better off sticking a centre back up there. Snatch hands off for a million or anywhere close to that if it balances the books. Revert back to 3 in midfield and 2 up top. Charles, Collins and McAtee to cover the 3 with CMG back in a few months. 4 players for 2 is more than enough. Can get a loan in in January if we get a few injuries.

  14. I'm saying £1m is useless to us now and having Vic till at least Jan is worth every penny. Unless there's another coming the door in the space of a few hours.

  21. Forgive me if I relax a little on a football forum and use lazy tropes. If you’d prefer me to compose a dissertation of some sort for a more in depth analysis, let me know and I’ll see what I can do for you. Even modern goalkeepers decide to hoof it upfield sometimes.

  24. It's a quote from him essentially saying he needs a manager who will put an arm round him. It's one of those that can be taken in two ways. Reading other stuff, I don't think it's a dig, he's just expressing his feelings about the manager there. (Gary Monk).

  25. Quite happy with how the days gone so far, no damage done losing our better players and there don’t even seem to be any serious rumours. I just hope it stays that way I’m happy with what we’ve got.

  27. Haha no certainly not that prestigious 😂 it was that show that used to fly over motorways and report back how busy they were. Sitting up front to watch take off and landing from Manchester airport was a privilege though! A friend of the family flies (or flew, its been a while since I saw him) 747s for Virgin Atlantic, considering he spends virtually every free minute off duty he gets absolutely pissed I think I'd want someone else to take over in an emergency 😃

  31. My Uncle Ralph was at Burnden in the Embankment End that day. He was also in North Africa with Monty. He always said that he’d been lucky to survive twice and wouldn’t take any more chances. He spent his life after the war down the pit and eventually died of Pneumoconiosis. Different breed, different generation.

  33. Fans who've been watching for years certainly should never be dismissed and are often very knowledgeable. It was interesting to hear Evatt talk about a 50% success rate with signings being the average across football. If ever you've been involved in recruitment in any profession, it's a hazardous business and you're never going to get perfection. We could go on with this debate forever. My own view is that they've done decently with recruitment since Evatt joined within the resources available. I'd have other things higher up my list of stuff to criticise re IE and the management ...hopefully without going too OTT and keeping things in context.

  35. If a team the league above value him at 1m, and that's based on detailed analysis from scouts, I daresay there's probably more understanding than you're average fan. More to the point Evatt feels it's not enough which means Evatt values him higher than Mcatee.. (if I'm right in thinking we payed 1m for him).

  49. But nothing ever beats getting into a band at 16/17/18 and going through that with your mates. It's a glorious thing and whether that be 66, 78, 84 or 95 it'll always be amazing. Reliving that for a day is great. If folk in their middle age start listening to some new stuff off the back of it even better.
