  2. Well as an NHS middle manager that's me out of a job then. Although I'm not sure about my 'fat salary'. Incidentally - a recent review highlighted the fact that there are too few NHS managers to properly cope with the amount of work as opposed to too many. And that employing more and allowing them to focus on specific topics (as opposed to spinning hundreds of plates) would ultimately be beneficial. I don't think you understand how NHS procurement works - but the scrutiny over any type of spend is enormous. For example - at our place - any spend with a value of over £10,000 has to have a business case and then go through a committee who decide whether or not we are allowed to spend it. And any contract over £50,000 has to be listed for public procurement and then go through an extremely onerous selection process. And in my time I've never seen, heard or even had an inkling that anybody is paying back handers to suppliers. There are way too many checks and balances for that. As for DEI - like I've already explained. They provide a really important function. For example. Say I want to procure a new vaccination team in an effort to bring MMR jab rates up to 95% which typically offers herd immunity. One of the most significant problems in achieving this is cultural beliefs of some people from other backgrounds, which I have some understanding of - but not in enough detail to really persuade people to change. This is where DEI might come in and offer advice and support to me about how to overcome these barriers. And their salary will be hugely offset by just one hospital stay by someone who they prevent from catching measles (and require hospital treatment). I can understand how simple it all seems as an outsider looking in. But we're largely intelligent people who do our best to keep everybody fit and well. If we thought that role wasn't worthwhile or somebody wasn't pulling their weight - they would be out. NHS management is ruthless - because we have to be. And if you want some idea of how many cuts have already been made. We had 11 in our team 3 years ago. We've now got 4. With additional work. We aren't allowed to spend any money on things like room hire to conduct large meetings and everything has been cut back. Even tea and coffee. I don't agree with this idea that there's some sort of DOGE like chainsaw swinging that could be done to save a load of cash. Certainly not in any of the places I've ever worked anyway.

  5. I don't think you need to have any military experience to see that is exactly what Trump wants to happen. Unlike some, even on here, who thought the meeting at the White House last week was about a "peace deal" this war is no nearer a peace deal now than it was this time last year (even though Trump promised he'd have it sorted within 24 hours) There may be a ceasefire in certain areas for a short period of time, if the US does get the minerals deal they want, but no way will the war be stopping anytime soon, as Ukraine won't want to give up it's sovereign territory. I'm still amazed, that in general, those simpletons who raved so much about Brexit and how "We've got back or Sovereignty*..." tend to be the same people who don't think Ukraine should be allowed to claim back theirs *by the way, we'd never actually lost ours, and if we had, what is so much better now that we've claimed it back?

  8. Edited your post for accuracy. As an aside, I really do wonder why Reform get so much publicity (5 mps) but the Lib Dem’s (72 mps) are hardly ever mentioned.🤷‍♂️ I know some on here voted for them. Do they feel left out?

  9. Yep. The only thing Putin understands is force. Hence why Europe have to stand together. The US will have to live with their decision to back Russia.

  10. Many leaders tried to engage them before they invaded but Putin was already set. No matter how you want to spin this, Russia was not going to listen and they ultimately invaded a neighbouring country. Those are the uncomfortable facts.

  14. On the one hand a ‘ cure’is nearly impossible on the other if it is found do not give to old people. So not something we need to moralise about. What we can do is look at how we treat cancer and that is improving every year. Like I bet nearly everyone on here have lost relatives to cancer. My mum died nearly 50 years ago from breast cancer, would probably survive now. All our female relatives are screened annually and a couple have had issues identified early and treated. The point is Trump has pulled research money for a range of medical treatments whilst at the same time celebrating with a young kid that has survived cancer. Even his his more ardent supporters must find that uncomfortable.

  15. Given the circumstances: the state of the club and having to literally build a squad from lower division and non-league, I think that wasn't unexpected. What he subsequently did was remarkable, and shouldn't be forgotten. Likewise, the last few months were equally remarkable as he and the team fell from grace. That won't be forgotten neither.

  16. Not really - it was a expedient way to allow someone onto the news rounds to stoke up any culture war issue that was brewing that day. It had nothing to do with some spurious brief like 'common sense' or some perceived lack of it.

  17. As per my original post that with Evatt ball dependency on Sheehan he became targeted as we had few other options, but under Schuey we do ergo Sheehan less pivotal to the team. Playing under Evatt it became increasingly easy to work out how to stop us - sit on Sheehan to push him deeper and force the wide men to pass backwards, let Santos etc have the ball in his own half and get men behind the ball. Sheehan dropping back to collect it takes another player out of the attack so we were too easy to defend against. Once we’d been worked out we became easy to defend against. With Schuey consolidating the defence, we give up possession to create space to attack quickly on turnover.

  18. I'd say it's still imbalanced. We're missing a fast striker, a big unit striker who can hold up the ball, a defensive midfielder who can enforce games, and a decent out and out left back. Considering our squad is huge for this level it's still overstocked in certain areas and poor in others. The fact SS is getting what we have to play so well is very impressive. Imagine what he'll do when we've balanced out the squad.

  33. I seriously hope you’re right. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if Trump turned round and said to Putin “And you will know my name is Donald when I lay my vengeance upon thee!” He’d shit himself (Putin) and Donald would be a hero all around the world. Don’t think that will happen though sadly. (Credit to Quentin ©️)

  34. Did you think we defended well at Wrexham? I thought they created chances without having to try too hard, just routine crosses. Thankfully they missed them (3 clear one's in 2nd half, a couple of less easy one's 1st half) because Southwood wasn't saving them if they'd been on target. Nothing like the Brum game who didn't even have half chances really other than the goal. For me, we have to defend better than we did at Wrexham if we want "Burton nil..."

  35. We were well beat by Huddersfield, and it hadn't reached the tipping point of Evatt needing to go. By Charlton it was inexcusable he was still here and we were just throwing the season down the toilet. So I agree, that's a 6 pointer we hopefully don't look back at with regret.

  42. That's your interpretation. My interpretation is that the strategy was to sanction Russia heavily, support Ukraine with arms and wait until the Russian economy and or losses were so significant that they had no option but to come to a settlement from a position of weakness. Which aside from physically putting boots on the ground always seemed like the most sensible option to me. And one which is (or at least was) bearing fruit until Trump ripped up the playbook. Russia has made marginal gains in recent times - it's economy is really starting to struggle and they've got manpower problems unless they choose to mobilise. It might not sound as sexy - or happen as quickly. But I think it's the best strategy we've had to ending the war on favourable terms for Ukraine. I'm absolutely positive that if a Western leader had rocked up at the Kremlin and told them they could keep what they have - Putin would have listened. But we didn't because of ethics and lessons from history. Where we went wrong is being too timid, not giving Ukraine what it needed quickly enough or in sufficient quantities and showing our hand by telling them from the outset that we would rule out sending troops. That was weakness on Biden's part. It's capitulation on Trump's.

  45. I know it's not entirely accurate to say, but I kind of see Burton as a BTEC Wrexham, tough to beat, will launch balls into the box with a 352 shape and will try to score of set pieces. If we defend like we did at Wrexham last week but add more quality on the ball we should get the 3 points. Obviously football isn't always so straightforward. If we can win there for the first time in our history and never play them again then that would be more than welcome please!
