  1. I assume most of you have read 1984. If you haven't then you're basically a traitor. Anyway, there's a part in it where the chocolate ration is heralded as a triumph when it's increased to 50 grams. Even though it had been 70 grams 2 weeks previously. And the people cheer. That's where his cult is. Doublethinking their way to Twitter for a row.

  2. Yep, I haven't given it up yet & would give my left knacker to reach the play offs & my right knacker to get promoted. I'm not interested in " we might not win in the play offs, boo hoo ", "we lost last year at Wembley, boo hoo " "no point going up, we're not ready, boo hoo". Worry about them as we face them but don't cry off because it might be difficult. If we don't make it, that's life & we go again next season.

  3. How has it actually come to this that the most powerful man in the world is some lunatic who is playing some kind of political version of Championship Manager in the real world. The most powerful man in the world saying things like world leaders are ringing him up and kissing his ass in a mock voice a 10yr old would use. It's truly bizarre.

  5. Oxford started like a train, were briefly top in early Sept and hung around the top (without being top) for a month or two. They then gradually fell away as the season progressed. Not long periods at all. Oxford lost 5-0 to us in mid March. You'd have got some good odds on them going up at that point. They also had 67 points from 41 games at this point. We have 66 from 41. We might not go up, we might not make the play offs, but why assume the worst? And why rewrite history without a quick fact check!

  9. My daughter bought me "Julia" by Sandra Newman for Christmas, which is basically '1984' from the point of view of Julia, rather than Winston. The reviews look good, but I haven't read it yet. I'll delve in next week while I'm on holiday.

  10. I can see your glass is half empty, and i'm possibly barking up the wrong tree, but since we signed Etete, Reading have taken 24 points from 13 games, whilst we have taken 22 from 12. Neither here nor there. Maybe we won't make the play offs, but i'd rather live in hope than assume the worst.

He's behaving exactly like I would, he's property developer and I'm a contractor... throw lots of fucks into the room, make the biggest splash, threaten everyone with anything and everything and then walk away... come back when the dust from your outburst has settled and talk. 😃 That is why people like me should be kept locked up in our boxes and not allowed anywhere near government 🤨

  13. They have already had extensions, it is the owner that is the problem. However, I personally would rather they survived than us getting in through the back door.

  14. If we played as well as that in all our remaining games I'd accept wherever we finish up and go into next season full of excitement.

  15. If we are all honest, we aren’t good enough to be promoted this season. we have lost 15 games in 41 and that ain’t promotion form in any year. we are inconsistent to say the least, have got hammered too often, don’t score enough and don’t score at the times when we should. even with ss, we have lost 5 games we probably shouldn’t and maybe won a couple we shouldn’t. ss has had his hands tied behind his back due to no transfer window and injuries. He needs summer to root out what he doesn’t want and bring in who he does - and I am sure he already knows this. However, we have certainly improved since he has taken over. taking to a Huddersfield fan today and he was saying they aren’t good enough and that really it’s best if they don’t make the play offs and start a fresh in august, rather than having a hangover from losing in the play offs - and I maybe tempted to agree. that said, I will still be at Barnsley and Lincoln as you just never know - but sometimes I think we need to look at it in the cold light of day and accept the situation for what it is rather than through rose tinted glasses.

  16. Absolutely. There’s been a real clamour since losing to Rotherham mid-week, to write-off the season, pack off half the squad as no good, give up on any hope of Wembley and promotion, all so people can say I’m just being realistic. It comes across as folk surrendering, giving up, when I think all they are doing is tempering possibility because of the inconsistencies we’ve shown this season. Like you, I get it, but where’s the fun in that? Part of the fun of following a L1 side home and away is that hope and belief you can do that something unexpected, change your fortunes, get back to winning games, to put yourself in contention again. Fortunately, most of the 3k there on Saturday, will be of that mind-set. In good voice at 3pm bringing the roof down, believing promotion is still on the cards. Thank God that’s still the case, as we could provide that extra edge to get the players over the line.

  17. Spot on. 3 inconsistent teams, although Reading have exceeded expectations I assume. Rationally I think we’ll just miss out. And even if we did make it, I think we’ll fall short. But what’s the point in being a football fan if we can’t cling on to some hope and some excitement. The journey is always more fun than the destination.

  18. We’ll beat Wycombe next week and then do them in the play offs, Morley running the show on both occasions just to rub salt in. We’ll then go to Wembley absolutely flying and stick 5 past Stockport to avenge for earlier this year and put them firmly back in their place.

  25. I agree it would be extremely harsh on the players , coaching staff and fans and personally if we get in the play offs I want it because we have done it ourselves not by the back door as they say.

  28. Always good to hear your point of view pal and some valid points which I agree with, inconsistent, hammerings, conceding too many etc. Not traits you associate with a promotion winning team. However a couple of points to counter. Oxford lost 13 games last year and got 77 points. The reason you’ll be going to Barnsley and Lincoln (As I will) will be in the hope (not expectation) that that goal is in our sights. It’s still very possible. Again I’m not expecting promotion, it’s a real long shot this season, but I do think the club, SS and the expectant fans will be better placed in the championship than L1 next season. If we lose in the play-offs, so be it. I don’t see the hangover we suffered this season or the one your Huddersfield mates talk about. Yes it will be painful. But the big difference this year is pretty much for most of the season including now, most aren’t expecting us to get there! We can quickly turn that into a positive, let’s take those good performances and traits under SS this year into a good foundation for L1 next year. I think some fans are in rose tinted specs if they think HMS piss the league with 100 points is on the table in L1 next season. And thats my worry. First defeat in L1 next season, you watch the in-game thread on here and the #bwfc - it will be meltdown, with new signings being criticised, SS being compared to Evatt, no better than we were 5 seasons ago etc etc Get up as soon as we can, however we can, wherever we can. Let’s hope that’s in grand fashion after a Wembley win. If not that, then next season. But let’s keep our expectations realistic, that could well be a rollercoaster through which we have to be patient and supportive….. I’m just not sure how many will be willing to show those traits when the bumps in L1 come next year…

  30. We will get play offs on the last day at home to Stevenage in the last 10 minutes. We will shithouse the semis and we will do it at Wembley in front of 35,000+ PTSD ridden Wanderers supporters. I am believing this until it is mathematically impossible. COMEE ONNNN

  33. Don't touch a hybrid under those circumstances. Pointless, and there have been concerns raised over the legitimacy of fuel economy claims. Iirc the EU launched an investigation some time back. The idea of a hybrid is to combine electric for small, slow journeys, and ICE for longer ones. Electric is by far at its most effective around town, at low speeds. They're cheaper to service and run, and batteries are now being found to last far longer than was first believed: in part by a view that the testing procedure is unrealistic. Virtually all your charging will be at home, allowing maximum savings to be achieved. My mileage and use is basically the same as yours, and my electric van will yield a greater range than quoted in the warmer months- drive them gently and use the regeneration and you'll get maximum possible range. In winter, obviously, your range will drop. Using the pre-warm function when plugged in at home on a winter's morning is a godsend too.

  37. I'd agree, if doing lots of small journeys, then I think Hybrid is the way to go - doing a lot of longer journeys, maybe not so much, as you're then lugging a fucking heavy battery up and down the motorway. If you're doing more than 200/250 miles a day, then I'd be sticking with petrol/diesel only around 100/150 miles a day, then maybe EV is feasible, provided you can charge at home of course

  43. I am also living in hope; just pointing out that the donkey has put us in catch up. Other players have let us down mind like Collins missing a cricket score of chances - Charles could miss a few but would have bagged three times as many that Collins has missed. Recruitment in the last three transfer windows is the reason we didn’t go up last season and why we are struggling to even make the playoffs this year

  48. You’re dreaming if you think the UK and US will suddenly be able to manufacture and supply the goods the Chinese do without having to increase pricing by 1000%. For a start, the infrastructure simply doesn’t exist and would require 10/15 years and trillions of pounds of investment. Absolutely dreaming. The world has moved on from cottage industries and “everything local”. there’s no going back, no matter how much you may want to. This is all about Trump playing to his audience and making them think he’s keeping his promises. He’ll back down, he already has, he’s a fucking fraud. If he was to pursue this (he won’t) then there’s no way you’d happily pay £500 for an appliance that used to cost £200. Not a fucking chance.
