  1. Evening. I'll offer my thoughts on Dalby for what they're worth.. First, he's no target man, or at least he wasn't for us, hence why we signed Palmer. I'd forget that notion now. He has most likely improved though and judging by his time in Scotland, his goals return, I'd say he definitely has. He's not that great in the air either for his size, but on his day is a decent striker and scored some important goals for us. He was much better for us when we played the ball into feet or he could run at defenders. He was always behind Palmer and Mullin and that scuppered his progress here. I've genuinely no idea why we offered him a contract in January given the sheer number of strikers we have but what do I know. He never played on the wing for us, we don't play with wingers, he was always up front in a two. He absolutely needs to play in a front two as well and will need crosses and good service to get the best out of him. He was liked here and never let us down. I wouldn't describe him as lazy either, Parkyball probably didn't suit him. I wish him well and I saw a lot worse in L1 last season.

  2. Truly sad for a good man who refused to follow the big-boys protection racket. RIP Uriah.

  3. I'd say the length of deal could've been the deal breaker seeing as so many other clubs were in for him.

  6. Lads only 25 as well. Folk have been cracking on as if he's some no mark journey man in his 30s

  7. I did too, I mentioned him on here a couple of times last season (wondering why Wrexham had let him go while signing JDB on a short term deal etc). Looked good quality especially aerially on the Scots goals highlights, and was top scorer in that league for much of the season. If nothing else when he's on the pitch it will feel like getting a corner is a reason for a bit of optimism for once! On a free transfer, albeit with a long and no doubt pricey contract, is a no-brainer compared to how much we've spent in the last couple of years.

  8. Game plan against Evatt was this and it was down to the way he built the team. Flood the middle, press the centre backs into making mistakes and find space behind the wing backs. Having Dalby in the team makes us more unpredictable, more difficult to play against and plan for. As with the tactic above we could just bypass the middle if we want, something we haven't really been able to do for a long time.

  10. My sons had a bit of a 'journey' when it comes to footy. His first ever team at u7 was ruthless and he was cut for not being up to standard - I was bitter at the time, but I coached his next team and he started finding his feet, scored a few goals and improved. I no longer wanted to coach that team, as there were some behavioral problems in the team and on the sidelines, so we uprooted again, this time of our own accord as he had an opportunity to play with some of his school mates and a couple of lads whose parents I'm friends with Third season just finished at his 3rd team and he smashed it. Voted 2nd in Players Player, 2nd in Parents Player and was the winner of Coaches Player of the Year. He's absolutely flying at the mo and I'm gutted the season's finished.. Hopefully his coaches keep getting friendlies in so he keep his momentum going Proper proud Dad! He's more buzzing that he can give it back to his sister who has been giving it him about her trophy wins 😄

  12. He was great to us. Fantastic win record, lots of pens IIRC and reds given to opposing sides. Not giving a blatant pen late against Thome at Molineux in 2004, only for Davies to go down the other end and score the winner at the death to send them down. Hundreds of whites singing ‘one Uriah Rennie’ as we left the away end with tempers flaring. Good times.

  13. It's one of the shittest national anthems out there. Proper dirge. And even less relevant if you're not religious. And it's not even England's anthem anyway. It's the anthem of the UK. Give me Jerusalem any day of the week!

  16. Its a reasonable point, as if say in 2 years we're in the championship, it would be normal for us to be looking for an upgrade. The other scenario is when SS leaves (law of averages says in less than 4 years), his successor may want his own men/a different style. But he's signed on a free, a risk worth taking for me. We'd only have to find someone to take him off our hands (perm or loan), its a better scenario than our circa £1mil signings where we are staring at huge losses for each of them.

  19. Corfu is red hot Our little corner faces big issue A big, refurbed, all inclusive Water shortages Its now 5 euros for a 'big' beer and 2.40 for a supermarket bottle. Fwiw, I pay 2.90 for a Corfu beer. Nicely brewed Pilsner, weiss, IPA and lager as theres more to beer than price. Can cutback on luxuries

  22. They added suspected meningitis to the list as well, but could never do the lumbar puncture to confirm it. His brain scans will need monitoring over the next few weeks but he seems responsive & alert which is reassuring enough for me. Thanks again for the best wishes gents. All that’s left to find out now is if the club shop does anything for preemies, so I can spruce up the incubator 🤍

  23. All went smoothly and to plan, thanks guys. Lengthy Catholic Church service at Our Lady of Lourdes in Farnworth followed by a shorter one at Overdale. I swerved the wake, though.

  24. Mrs Fogarty has been signed off from everyone after her stroke. She's almost 100% back to normal. The next pysio slot the've got for her is in 6/8 weeks andthe physio reckons all being well she won't need it. Thanks for everyones best wishes. They made a difference when things were looking bleak.

  29. I don’t disagree but last season they were our only option. As a backup, with a full pre-season with the first team, they might have progressed. They’re at the age where progression can be quick. My point about variety still stands, I think. Next a couple of out and out wingers, who can cross. No point having a gun, if there’s no ammunition!

  30. Lewis won't be acting as back up and I'm yet to be convinced Abimbola will either Both have quite a lot of developing to do, which is not a criticism given their ages

  34. I am encouraged by the list of other clubs in for him. Not all of those scouts/recruitment types can be wrong. As I have said before I dont think we can get by with just one striker who has physique and aerial ability. Its still fresh in the mind how lame we used to look when Madine was unfit.

  35. We need a target man and someone who can head the ball so fine by me His SPL stats suggest he knows how to get in the right positions and with the right supply will score Parky wanted to keep him for the championship So far so good But 4 years? He'd better be decent otherwise we're stuck with him

  37. Yep. I'm normally just a bit suspicious when it's a fat bloke in the boozer before a match knocking them out. I have also been guilty of buying them in the past, until it was pointed out to me....

  40. Just back from our 3rd Eurocamp holiday. This time right on Lake Garda, about 4 miles from Sirmione and 1 mile from Peschiera. Absolutely stunning place. Managed a day in Verona as well. Nice to break away from the tiring all-inclusive regime and just eat out or eat in (but out, on the decking) each day. Bonus - a lot of the Italian women are stunners. Non-bonus - must have been a big holiday week in Ireland as the site was awash with GAA shirts or Conor McGregor lookalikes.
