Somehow - we've all got to get back to being human beings again and not automatically hate someone just because they disagree with yiu about politics. I saw Tim Berners-Lee being interviewed yesterday. And he was explaining the algorithms job is to keep you locked in and engaging in the content. So it will deliberately show you things to become enraged about. His argument has that this has led to a lot of the polarisation we see in society and gives us a false view of the world really is. He essentially said the Internet had been monopolised by these huge companies - all keeping us scrolling with their negative algorithms. He said it should be outlawed. Social media firms should still He able to exist but with strict guidelines around hiw their algorithms work. Banned in the same way that we banned guns. Because it's so damaging to society. Remember when Facebook was good and it really was all your friends posting stupid shit all day about what they were doing? It's NOTHING like that now. I barely see any posts from my friends anymore. It's just adverts and videos to make me start doomscrolling. Fuck that shit - I'm done with it! Let's just start being decent with each other again. I'll put my pipe down now! šāļøā®ļøš13 likes

Oh he was great at debating. But the fact that folk like him can be become so famous on the back of such extreme views and a fractured society is a bad reflection on our current times, especially in the US. That goes for the weirdos debating him in the first place. Him, Andrew Tate etc etc. It's not good.7 likes

My Nana lived in upstate New York. She was 98 when she passed away. She had good friends who were white, black, Asian, Chinese, Armenian, Italian. Her group of friends gave huge amounts of time volunteering as part of a community that looked after everybody. I remember how excited she was when the States had their first black president - someone who seemed to genuinely care about all people regardless of politics, race, religion etc. She died a few weeks after Obama was first voted in as President. She was so full of hope for the country. I thank God she didnāt have to witness this spiral the US has been on over recent years. Truly so sad.7 likes

Great post In a nutshell really I remember tuning into some Tommy Robinson videos a year or so ago. Simply as means to understand his mindset and life story. Within a week my YouTube feed had gone from football vloggers, music & cooking videos to loads of hateful, dramatic videos. Purely exaggerated nonsense about āmilitary aged men invading, the demise of the white man & woke universitiesā. The comments are filled to brim with foamy mouthed, brainwashed people. Who see one incident & tar everyone (& whole institutions) with the same brush. Itās scary how quickly it all happens. I went from watching interesting, relaxing videos one week, to just not watching anything anymore. We tend to talk more about the devastating impacts these algorithms have on children. & Iād love to see social media banned for U18s, but the effect itās having on adults is equally concerning. It works both ways as well, that was just my particular experience.5 likes

There are some massive horseshoe ideologies involved here. Imagine a preacher of Islam coming out with a similar rhetoric. They'd be castigated by the right wing nut jobs that are currently mourning him.4 likes

Equal split on the Partyās running for powerā¦ā¦.. That way you have a balanced view like I do and donāt end up in an echo chamber šš RW - here to help,4 likes

Made the mistake of watching the video when I knew it was someone I shouldn't have trusted to press play on šŖ For what its worth, I couldn't be further from the lads political beliefs. But fuck me, I don't mind admitting that I just shead a tear after seeing that. The world is fucked. How has it come to such devision, even between lads I I've known since childhood, I've never seem such fall outs even just chatting in the boozer. Obviously not as bad as what's just happened, but just as sad in it's own little way as far as I can see. šŖ4 likes

I have the misfortune, as do many of my colleagues, to have to deal with Mr Veitch in the course of my job. Having had to have face to face dialogue with him in that scenario, I can vouch that he is a complete and utter knob. The only area where he is clever or smart is knowing how much he can get away with, and how close he can get to the line of getting himself arrested.3 likes

There's also a big problem with politics having turned into a circus of performative hate. Which helps nothing and exacerbates everything.3 likes

Facing people with other opinions, openly, in public is surely a good thing. That's what universities in particular were once a centre of- debate. Instead they now have become the opposite, sadly.2 likes

He's a American devout Christian. He's right sided but I wouldn't say right wing. He was an extremely clever man and could out debate pretty much anyone who dared to speak with him, so used that as his thing to be like a viral influencer. He'd hold debates and ask people to try and win their argument. Inevitably these were normally taken up by left minded folk or left side extremists who wanted to be "the one" that outsmarted him. Inevitably people became upset and outraged and couldn't handle that after a while people began to agree with him. For reference I've never once seen him spout any real hatred, or been aggressive.. in fact on most the polar opposite2 likes

So far about 70,000 of Palestinians that lived in either West Bank, Gaza or Israel have been killed since Oct 7th. 70,000 out of 6,900,000. So about 1% in 23 months of war against one of most sophisticated and advanced military in the world. If they wanted to kill all ... think they'd have done it by now. It's not a ethnic cleansing ... its not genocide 1% in 23 months1 like

The BBC have already gone to extreme lengths to try to determine just this. Reporter earlier explaining that they have gone into the finances of his partner's family in detail. Not quite sure how a journalist can ascertain exactly how much money someone has, but that's their job I suppose. If something is found, then it will be out like a shot, and those poll leads may start to come down. No doubt we'll find out in good time.1 like

This is ideology competing with biology. Nature has created many different means of raining young, across different living things. In mamals for example, females are the ones that give birth and produce milk, so it is simply a fundamental of life that early days and weeks the mother is more important. That doesn't mean males aren't important, and become more so later on. Basic stuff.1 like

Not really. Not sure why that would be a reason for it being truthful ? Iāve watched bits throughout. The first minute has numerous mistruths & statements lacking context. Quick google search tells you the āmilitary chapā has his own bias & agenda āKemp is a director and trustee of UK Friends of the Association for the Wellbeing of Israelās Soldiers (UK-AWIS), a British charity that raises money to support the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF).ā Itās just two allies giving off the pretence that one is non biased. In which case a team that finishes 6th, or 5th, or 4th, shouldnt get a shot either. If you want it to be fair, only have automatic promotion. If you want it to be fun, and for your team to be in with a shot for a long as possible, do it this way. National League N and S have been doing this for years. Football isn't designed to be fair; it's designed to make money and entertain people.1 like
