I will be watching tomorrow on TV but I’ve had some eventful days at Mansfield including witness for my mate who got nicked on one visit…. Anyhow my mind wanders back to the late 70s with that fantastic team led by Ian Greaves….. I rocked up with couple of mates at Moor Lane bus station where luxury Hargreaves coaches were waiting to take fans to Mansfield…. On the other side of the bus station were the Ribble coaches basically single decker ramshackle buses but a a £1 cheaper than Hargreaves and with me still at school and earning only 50p For shopping for one of my elderly neighbours I decided that was 2 weeks work so Ribble coaches it was. Was a long journey don’t think the bus went faster than 40mph…. Anyhow we duly arrived at Field mill Bolton everywhere, we were herded into the open end behind the goal. It was a tight game only decided by a thunder strike from John Ritson. Spent the journey home dreaming of division 1 and stuffing Man U next season…. Dreams do come true thanks to Frankie Worthy. Happy days. Excerpt from the Bolton news. Ritson’s Rocket” proclaimed the Bolton Evening News the day after Wanderers had beaten Mansfield Town 1-0 at Field Mill to inch just a little bit closer to promotion in Division Two.7 likes

First Mansfield memory i have is seeing this on the 92/93 season review tape that I watched over and over. I used to watch this and think wow every time we scored away it went absolutely mental in our end!3 likes

I'd be more than happy if they went after everyone with similar cases as Barton He was publicly persistently trolling folk for his 2.5m followers to watch, cheer on and join for no other reason than his own amusement because he's a bullying cunt He always has been He got what he deserved and so would anyone else doing the same It's always good to see when bullies get what's coming to them2 likes

Not really on either side here, but you don’t have to be arrested to be prosecuted, likewise you can be arrested and not prosecuted. Think figures are a bit misleading. Either way, it’s clearly an issue in society. I’m of the opinion that Joey Barton is a cock, but definitely didn’t deserve to go prison for it and his sentence was about right. I can’t remember if he was arrested or not but it’s irrelevant.2 likes

Anyway on the subject of the 92, my neighbour went to Spurs v Brentford on Saturday, partly to tick off a new ground. They are a couple in their 70s and she's already done the 92 (mostly v Bolton, but not all) but now needs to do the new grounds. She's got 6 to go, the likes of Colchester. She's also done over 30 Scottish. Including non league and Irish, Spurs was her 324th ground in the UK! They've both had S/Ts at Bolton since the 70s but don't get to many aways now that tickets are harder to come by, so they usually do non league when we're away. Been known to go upto the North East and back in a day to watch someone like North Shields. I thought it was worth a mention, we've sadly lost Ruth Crawshaw not too long ago and folk like these are what football's about to me.2 likes

So if they are good enough and professional enough etc, what happened on Saturday? Seemed more like a step backwards than a step forward with no improvement in sight. I think you are being disrespectful to Mansfield. They have a proven manager who has turned us over many times and a strong team when fit. Hopefully our lads will give them that respect and play accordingly. And earning the right to play is bob on. Every game.2 likes

TSL Christie Toal Johnston Conway any 3 from Dempsey Sheehan Simons Erhahon Forss Duberry Burstow ...could work away from home2 likes

If Dempsey plays, that is a four man midfield. Dempsey is an 8, not a 10. With Dempsey, we can play a three man midfield, and still employ two wingers. The problem is, we have no other box-to-box midfielder, to replace Dempsey. Such a role cannot be done by one player for 90 minutes, Saturday and Tuesday.2 likes

Team will be interesting TSL Christie Toal GJ Conway Simons Erhahon Sheehan ACD Dempsey or Forss Burstow Works for me but if asking full backs to get forward JDC is an option although I see on social media he is to blame for most of the problems in western civilisation.2 likes

It certainly makes it far easier to prosecute when it's their for all to see Online trolling is a crime and has been for a long time Folk like Barton think it doesn't apply to them, thinks it's all just a laugh Like assaulting folk, he just can't help himself and doesn't learn Gets what he deserves1 like

Aye no need to be mate. Clearly there is an issue with police time being wasted investigating some offensive things posted online. There have been some daft arrests in recent times and police are generally quite resistant to hate crime laws. But the figures aren't all for offensive things posted online. Some are for some really horrific stuff that shouldn't be ignored. As you say, the figures are misleading. It's right for Barton not to go to prison. But it's good this went to court and he's been found guilty as it helps prevent him doing similar again. https://www.cps.gov.uk/mersey-cheshire/news/updated-sentence-ex-footballer-joey-barton-sentenced-sending-offensive#:~:text=Former Premier League footballer Joey,January and mid-March 2024. I'd like to see anyone read the evidence above and argue this behaviour should be allowed to happen. It shouldn't.1 like

Not sure where you're going with this. You said it was a waste of time for police to investigate online communication offences - but it has been pointed out to you that this includes child abuse, grooming, sexting and other forms of grim abuse. If you're argument is that police should stop arresting and investigating comments that some people might find offensive, then I'd be in complete agreement with you. But you need to be a little more specific here - because some of those arrests for 'social media posts' are for some fairly serious crimes that we shouldn't be ignoring.1 like

Tell him police time would be far better spent investigating house break ins, robberies and both violent and sexual assaults. Instead they spend far too much time on woke inspired shite. That's when they are not in meeting rooms pondering the next moves they can make regarding diversity and inclusion.1 like

Like I said, 12000 arrested. A bit silly isn’t it, considering 90% of those cases are dropped. Complete waste of police time.1 like

They get regular visits to Wembley and Europe to satisfy them, rest of us peasants need something to keep us going. It's not meant to be easy, it's not meant to be achievable by everyone. Tough.1 like

That’s ok In another 10 years when I’m retired and Bolton are established in the premiership and I have no chance of getting the likes of Bromley, Salford and Harrogate with Bolton… that rule will be amended and added Into my game 😂1 like

No 😁 If that Geezer is talking about going as a Rotherham fan and a neutral, there’s a farcical amount of flexibility that’s being applied. Its a strange game if you’re knocking off iconic grounds like White Hart Lane and Upton Park. Should be with one club though in my eyes1 like

Yes - basically Europe and it's leaders are the root of all evil and are hell bent on leading us all into WW3 (presumably for not allowing Russia to just waltz in and take Ukraine in its entirety. And it would seem that Donald Trump is slowly moving towards that way of thinking himself given his recent proclamations. He goes onto say that Europe will descend into individual member states who fight amongst each other and revert to expansionism and colonialism (which is an odd take for a country who have just invaded Ukraine). Moving into my words. The US have taken the coward's way out by the looks of things. Either that or they are just hopelessly inept or both. Trump wants peace at any cost for his Nobel Peace Prize - and doesn't give a shit if that means he has to sell out Ukraine or sign a deal which is basically a huge capitulation and means we end up having to fight a hot war with (a much stronger) Russia in 10 to 20 years. By which point he'll be dead and history will view him as an even bigger appeasement monkey than Neville Chamberlain. Anyone who has the gall to look at themselves in the mirror and call themselves a 'patriot' while supporting this utter fuckwit is either too thick to really see what's going on, is a closet authoritarian (I think there's at least a few of these on here) - or just hasn't really been following the news (apart from the headlines). The details coming out over the past couple of weeks pretty much rip up and 80 year old world order. And Britain is going to slide waaaaaaaay down the rankings in very short order without some huge turn of events. The best we can hope for is that Trump becomes a lame duck president in the not too distant future and we don't end up with someone like Pete Hesgeth in next (although that's unlikely seen as he's just been publicly called out for committing war crimes). Not that many people seem to care about shit like that anymore mind!1 like

I don't consider myself as "European" and more than half the population voted out. To me the current EU is too eastern focussed and is dragging us via our Europhile PM towards financial ruin... what is the point of today's summit? Its just a sideshow when it comes to global politics. We need to tread more carefully than you suggest.1 like

1. As bad as Saturday was the players have shown over last couple of months they are good enough and hopefully professional enough to motivate themselves to improve. Not saying SS should not have bollocked them 2. No disrespect to Mansfield but we should not be relying on them being short of players to beat them. 3. There is the expression ‘earn the right to play’ which matches your point and underpins our away form. We do not do this enough, hopefully changes tomorrow.1 like

3 in midfield is a must, sitting deep less so. At the moment we end up with the 9 and 10 as virtual passengers with no service. The wingers spend more time coming back than going forward. I would question 2 wingers and a ‘10’ away from home. Just leaves us short elsewhere.1 like

I’ve watched a couple of games this weekend. The first was Villa v Arsenal, best game I’ve seen in years and Villa have got to be seen as title contenders in my opinion. Proper end to end stuff with no team giving a thought of drawing or losing. Second game was Sutton United v Shrewsbury. Very entertaining and Sutton unlucky to lose but their keeper was unbelievable in the way he was recovering defensive lapses. I’m sure he’ll have a professional career if he’s young enough. However, I’ve not checked out his name or age so it might have been a one off 🤔1 like

Taking his position to it's illogical conclusion they should have Ian Rush up front & Steve Heighway pinging the crosses in. If he can't see that he's not adding enough, or his attitude is that he should be picked no-matter what then Slot must do whatever he needs to. He'll be off to Saudi in the window I think.1 like

You were a supporter of Biden FFS! Similarly you fail to acknowledge the Democrat bastardry in weaponising the judiciary and attempt to blame Trump for this when he is indulging in a little payback using the Democrat chosen weapon.
