That was 2pm, as was customary when we played a UEFA game on the Thursday wasn’t it? If it was midday, I was somehow boozing in a few places in Wigan that morning.

Ricketts is apparently a massive ‘Liverpool fan’, which surprises me, as he was a Villa fan when he was a special guest at a Junior Whites meeting in 2001.

Nlundulu would be my third choice front man, behind JDB and Charles. Seen a few slating his touch; I think it sticks to him better than it did with Baka, and he certainly looks as if he has control of the ball better than Adeboyejo does. There’s a 10 goal season in him if played regularly for me, which wouldn’t be bad if paired with Charles. Not sure of Jerome’s role now, unless JDB is injured and we need someone to come on and hold the ball up late on.

Not overly keen on this. I like a red trim. Plus it’s not all that dissimilar to the one we had in 21/22, is it? I wouldn’t be overly surprised if the club have gone against the vote either. Kit 2 seemed very popular at the time. I’ve always wanted to see us in pinstripes, so voted for Kit 3. Looks like a promotion kit to me though.

We badly missed Gethin and his advancing runs in the playoffs. He definitely starts every game for me, be it right centre back or right wing back. Toal I cannot leave out either, although poor in both games against Barnsley (perhaps not match fit). Which has me puzzled over Johnston. My Player of the Season. Final year of his contract isn’t he? Rumoured interest in January; £1m+ offers and I think we can listen. Shame to lose a left sided centre half, but we have Iredale coming back, who I wasn’t raving about in his first season, but could always fill in and will perhaps be better there. Randell Williams I really am not convinced by yet, lacking match fitness or otherwise. Will hate it if we move him to the right side too, whether he’s better there or not. Completely upsets our balance when we have players on the wrong side. John is clearly bad news, so would happily get shot of him and have someone new in. Hope I’m wrong about Victor too. Considering we’re a good footballing side that wants to dominate possession, his touch has been largely horrendous. I don’t see where he fits in with what we try and do. Really don’t like to write players off, but I’d snap someone’s hand off if they offered half of what we apparently paid.

Pretty sure this is their busiest stand. As expected, the 4k season ticket sales which were “up on this time last year” are complete pie in the sky. Be surprised if they’ve shifted 2k looking at that. Tick tock. ⏰

Turns out McClean was never out of contract. It was extended last summer, on sky high wages no doubt. Lovely.

Another year for Sheehan, Thomason, MJ and JDB for me. Kachunga I’m 50/50 on, but it would have to be on reduced terms if he is a higher earner. Wouldn’t be unhappy with another year for Lee; again perhaps on reduced terms taking age and injuries into account. I wonder if there’s a minuscule chance Dixon gets a year as backup. We won’t be paying big wages on a reserve keeper when we almost never have one on the bench anyway. Granted if our no. 1 got injured, I have no faith that he can step up.

Some (most) of them are incredibly deluded and seem to think they’ll go up again, despite being down to bare bones, and by virtue of having won the league a few times in recent history. What they’re failing to realise is they’ve won it unsustainably, and certainly wouldn’t have gone up this season with last season’s squad IMO. Looking forward to seeing them continue to drop.

Precisely my point. Day-trippers and fans of other clubs going for the day out. The turnouts for both clubs is amazing, but I find it difficult to believe that 23k extra die-hard Plymouth fans have appeared that don’t show for home games.
-
Always presume there’s lots of fans of other clubs that go along to these games to boost attendances. For instance, how on earth did MK Dons v Grimsby get 57k fans on in 2008? Do they even have 10k supporters on between them for home games?

Seems a proper miserable cunt to me going off interviews and how detached from the players he seemed when we scored goals last season. Not going to judge him off just that; ability-wise I think he’s been unlucky this season after a solid career with us otherwise. I won’t however forget him saying that he saw himself as a “Championship player at least” when he was on loan. I was pleasantly surprised we managed to tie him down after his loan and I’m sure he must be one of our highest earners. Be all and end all, you’re not that good mate. Thanks and good luck with your new club.

Like to get Dapo’s deal extended beyond 2024.

We had an absolute shocker here. Given that we only went down on the last day, and spent the £7m on an untried defender from the states and Marvin Sordell; surely we’d have been better off keeping him, therefore increasing our chance of survival and losing on a free in the summer.

Got 25/1 on Lennon to us a few years back, although they only offered a quid at that price, then more at smaller prices. A bored insomnia-fuelled bet in the early hours. £288 back off £12. Just had a hunch. Made a hungover packed train back from Leeds on a Sunday afternoon more bearable.

Bolton 0-2 Villa 10/02/96 2:26 here Day before my 7th birthday. Hated every second of it. My next game was the solitary home loss in the league against Ipswich in 96/97, which I also didn’t enjoy. My dad bought me a season ticket for the first season at the Reebok and I didn’t look back.
-
His wife is from Bolton isn’t she? Seem to recall that being a factor when he signed for us. Thought both wives were all about the money tbh. But it’s rather telling that J’Lloyd’s family clearly don’t get on with his English wife; especially with his mum seemingly befriending the Iranian woman.
-
I don’t think he’s good enough for that level anymore. In fact most of their players aren’t Championship standard, and very few have a re-sale value. Not looking good for them. Oh well.

It could be argued that I’m a product of the generational hatred you speak of, but this has gone on longer than Tranmere (who are further afield) and Wolves (who are even further away, and also have three midlands clubs to contend with). They’re on our doorstep, and have played in our division for the best part of twenty years. Granted they were a bit try hard, but they’ve won the FA Cup as much as it pains me, and they’re currently a division higher. While some may argue that they don’t hate or even care for Wigan, it’s head and shoulders above anything close to a big rivalry that we’ve had in my lifetime. Quite happy to embrace it tbh. Not that I’d be too disappointed if they went out of business.

When we played Accy away the first time round, I seem to recall the prices being very reasonable. We lost 7-1 so it was a fucking rip off in hindsight.

From Evatt’s comments he sounds completely understanding. Although of course he wouldn’t say otherwise if there was a rift. He’s not effective enough in the current system, but he’s being moulded (albeit intermittently at the moment) into adding more to his game in a new role. If it pays off, Dapo’s value goes way up and he can have a more successful career. Just hope this happens soon, as if he’s benched much more there will be issues you’d imagine.
-
0-0 weren’t it? Big showing to try and show Parky that he hadn't joined a bigger club.
-
Always surprises me that we made the PL before Sunderland and Derby. On Wilder, I can’t believe he took that job in the first place. Could’ve held out for the Prem surely. His stock is still fairly high and he can expect a Championship vacancy no problem. Boro are only heading one way; they’re fucked financially, no idea what the deal is with Gibson or how their fans feel about him.

Had a glance through their forum last night. That site owner was absolute comedy gold, watching him get angrier with every post and then logging off; especially with those who didn’t agree with him or have the deep burning hatred for us that he did. Evened the day out on brain dead fans, having had someone try to argue with me that David Lee was our record appearance holder 🤯
