I seem to remember in the 1st Gulf war , Sadam fired a scud into Isreal that caused a bit of damage and Isreal got world wide praise for their restraint, as retaliating would have escalated that war.
I’m sure that happened, though it was early 90s so I was probably pissed while the news was on so could be wrong -

I drove to Huddersfield last week and it was snowing a blizzard like the depths of winter over the tops , dark and bad visibility, tracks in the lanes the lot.
came back an hour later and no sign of it ever snowing, no trace in the fields or anything, just bright evening sunshine and roads just a bit wet .

they know they’re using human shields, so maybe don’t bomb them as you know you’ll kill innocents ?
there’ll be those that disagree with that and say it’s Hamas fault for using human shields, my opinion is don’t bomb if you know innocents are there.
it wasn’t some Hamas mouthpiece stating it either , it was a UN person, who had figures from other conflicts covered by media or not . I have no idea as I said,neither do you or anyone but if it’s true it’s pretty bad stat, think everyone would agree on that surely?

They will, but I heard a stat, that more children have been killed in Gaza in this 5 months that in the whole worldwide conflicts over the last 4 years .
it was from an un aid worker, no idea how to verify it but if that’s anything near true it shows that the response has been disproportionate to put it mildly and isn’t the “ normal “ collateral damage that obviously does occur in these scenarios.

Yeh I know what you mean, but not creating a rabbit hole, certainly don’t want to, I’m just making the comparison , doesn’t matter the cause , just the organisation/ cause you said you supported were murdering British troops 20 years prior to your support starting and you wouldn’t do that for any other, it seems the Isreal thing is unique in that respect and I find it interesting and confusing in equal measure .

My leanings were forged prior to 7th October. People will make judgements based on their experience and their reading of history. Mine includes the wars in 67 and 73. Not sure if that covers your modern era. The build up to the wars, the supporting sides and repercussions. I therefore ‘lean’ towards Israel. So that’s maybe an age thing rather than political.
It’s also possible that people who either read or comment on here could be Jewish. I know we had at least one who unfortunately doesn’t post now.I fully support Israel in their determination to remove Hamas from control of Gaza. I don’t support their methods. Like everyone one else though, I don’t have a solution.

This is what interests me/ confuses me, you can obviously lean which way you like, but, 1967 was only 20 years after Jewish insurgents were hanging executed British soldiers in trees and booby trapping their bodies so those cutting them down copped it too and there was anti Jewish demos in Britain .
it’s like leaning towards the Taliban now , as they’re now the government in Afghanistan and ignoring what they did in the early 2000s
