Things changed during and post WW2, and they became the power they are today in response to the Japanese, Russia (cold war) and subsequently the middle east and terrorism. Out of necessity for their own protection, but also as a part of a bigger umbrella organisation. Which is great, but it should be incumbent upon all members to do their bit. Just like a football team and squad, pulling together in the same direction.

Gdp and gdp per capita are indeed higher. That said, the relative spend on the military is also higher by the US, and other nations should pull their weight. I disagree about the integration though. There is already a high degree of interoperability within NATO and that is expanding. The US also sells more arms abroad than anyone else, including to NATO partners and beyond. There is no reason to undertake an additional, parallel course, with undoubted duplication. A European army may also be subject to more political influence, as opposed to NATO, that manages to encapsulate many different cultures in one organisation. Clearly Trump has made suggestions over funding previously, but they were justified. There are also many smaller elements of western allies selling both components and finished equipment to each other. All useful when pushing for continued development of equipment, rather than having one source.

As I said above, we can't judge on that basis, as we did similar in the world war. Terribly distasteful, but war is. As a nation, Ukraine also has different cultural attitudes than us, and until they have had years of independence and free and fair elections, some of those differences will remain.

I've heard about such moves before. Firstly, can we be sure that that video is genuine, and what it is purported to be? Is there an agenda by Lord Bebo, and could it be a pro-Russian account. If it is genuine, then bear in mind, the approach Britain took to conscientious objectors. There are also reports of some young men, as newly trained soldiers, leaving their posts. Are there any videos of Russian young men being dragged into service, as there are reports of some young recruits being thrust into the meatgrinder, poorly trained, poorly armed, with senior soldiers behind them ready to put a bullet into them if they don't go forward. The fog of war sadly, and I'm sure there are many examples of unpleasant events in both countries. I wouldn't be using videos (possibly unverified) from unknown sources to back up a claim either way. Thankfully, we're not in the war and aren't subject to those societal changes required.
