  1. Many moons ago across the tracks, there was a tank turret in the yard. Bury council keep their wheelie bins on it now. There is a story in the family, that in the war, my grandad couldn't get a train after bombing in manc. He was walking through and saw a pack of butter floating along the gutter in the wash of firemen's hoses. He paused and just as he thought about picking it up, a policeman said "keep on walking soldier!" He did as he was told and walked all the way back to Mather and platt area.
  2. I wouldn't dispute that, but my point is he put his head above the parapet when no one else would. Sure plenty of other people may have the wherewithal but they weren't there. Fwiw I believe ka is where the future lies; though I don't believe he has any great affection for the club. Once he gets it sorted, if the club is secure then that'll do for me.
  3. Indeed. Place made tanks so it made sense him visiting. Plaque could do with a wash though, can easily miss it.
  4. Get the canal fixed and get some water taxis on it. Not sure the distance but from little lever to manc it must be around nine miles. A gentle chug at 6 or 7 mph not really any slower. Brew and breaky on board, WiFi and a relaxing environmnet so fresh for work.
  5. Root's yer man.
  6. Too right. On the TV and radio promoting us as a great club etc... Thankfully it worked he managed to get it sorted by hook or by crook.
  7. My brother lives on the site of mather and platt. There is a tree on the road that was planted by field Marshall montgomery. When the estate was being built someone realised and the tree was saved from destruction and now has its own plaque.
  8. Had to read this several times; thought it was a Brian cox theorem.
  9. Absolutely. That is part of the problem. Folk argue about why but not enough is done to account for the fact it is happening. When homeowners can't get flood insurance, flood defences become too expensive and the sinking city of London is no longer protected by the barrages society is going to go through big changes.
  10. Not in doubt. What isn't shown, because its so difficult, is the rate of warming and cooling. Weather is breaking records all the time, and years ago people were predicting more extreme weather. Observations tend to support this. Flooding, wind (tornadoes) and destruction are increasingly commonplace. This island of ours is already too full, and if these weather extremes carry on our current way of life will end up unsustainable.
  11. Climate warming is a fact. What is causing it is is difficult to prove. Just because there is evidence of it happening previously without fossil fuel emissions doesn't mean that's not the cause now. Highly likely that by the time its proven it will be too late. The earth has gone through various periods of warming and cooling, polar shifts etc. One huge volcanic eruption can have an effect for a couple of years, so its seems sensible to assume putting millions of tonnes of co2 into the atmosphere, whilst at the same time deforesting the planet might not be such a wise move.
  12. Presumably that siding will have been at Bradley fold near the queens? Used to play on the open ground myself before I bought my first house there. Talking seventies here. Used to go into the farmers field getting conkers, just off the track behind the queens. Also played in the fields adjacent to blackshaw brook- out with brothers one day, remember hiding from them in a 'bunker', poked my head out and looked down towards the stream only to see a couple hard at it in the grass. Quality!
  13. Seems like her upper arms have been absorbed. Can't they do liposuction to get some of the weight off quicker- could help make a few new fivers too.
  14. Boycott not impressed by only having two spinners.
  15. When's he becoming a dad again?
  16. What's the story- bit before my time I think.
  17. A woman on some TV programme t'other day was saying earlier this year the sea temp was four degrees above normal. Soon be icebergs in the north sea.
  18. Never stops being produced; though I think potency declines.
  19. One win in eight league games I think I heard the other day. Might be the special one's last game; especially with Stam going back.
  20. So what if he didn't. Still got a club to go to and I'm thankful for that.
  21. Didn't get it on your phone- seems the done thing these days.
  22. Whatever DH invested, the fact is without his efforts KA wouldn't have been around. Got to give him credit for that. Just want it all finalised now- especially going into a busy Christmas period.
  23. As valid as that maybe its just not going to happen. Its also a little unfortunate the bloke took the money rather than go public.
