  1. We’ve never had an issue with booing anti racism events such as kick it out Plenty people in this country will have been very unhappy with the BLM protests this summer as they fundamentally disagree with a lot of the messaging Having protests at football games that on the face of it seem to support the BLM movement incite those opposing opinions If it’s made absolutely clear that the protests are in no way supportive of the BLM movement then I honestly believe the opposition to the protests goes away The media need to give that clarity
  2. I guess it’s down to interpretation of what systemic racism means, for me it’s about Education, healthcare, employment, Welfare etc In that regard, I believe we have a fair system, it might need the odd tweak don’t get me wrong but on the whole it’s very reasonable. I certainly don’t think that our system is biased in favour of people with white skin, if it was then why on earth is the average white person so far behind the average U.K. Indian & U.K. Chinese person in every set of data? Perhaps I didn’t explain what I meant in my post to Rudy, by isolated I meant more of a non systemic racism, I.e an individual or group of individuals rather than a system. I fully agree that we still have individuals who have racists views but I don’t think it’s ingrained in our system I don't think that’s an unreasonable opinion to have
  3. Some interesting points being made, I appreciate that in this report they have tried to make it absolutely clear that the football protests have absolutely nothing to do with the BLM movement However plenty of other major media organisations are still making those links, I posted one from the Times last night... The 25 year old Antigua and Barbuda player said that he felt personally disrespected after a section of the crowed booed when both teams took part in an anti-racism gesture in support of the Black Lives Matter movement I think that the media need to make it clear that the football protests are in no way linked to the BLM movement because like it or not that movement represents a political protest much more than it does ending racist abuse in sport Sounds like Millwall & QPR are going to be wearing kick it out T shirts and linking arms rather than taking a knee (on the whole), I think that should help distance a simple anti racism message away from a wider political one
  4. 13 working days should be plenty of time Who was it pre referendum that said a comprehensive free trade deal could be done in 2 weeks? Should have been sorted back in July 2016, forget article 50
  5. When you talk about Black People not feeling equal, I’d be keen to know if you think the U.K. is systemically racist? Or is it just isolated incidents of racism that drive it
  6. Just reading a bit in the Times on the Millwall incident.... The 25 year old Antigua and Barbuda player said that he felt personally disrespected after a section of the crowed booed when both teams took part in an anti-racism gesture in support of the Black Lives Matter movement If the EFL and players are no longer supporting BLM then why have so many reputable media outlets missed it? Surely all they need to say is that they don’t support the Black Lives Matter movement and this whole sorry mess can be put to bed
  7. I don’t think I was lambasting them, just sharing a links of where we have spent money on something that we may need but later didn’t use. You seemed to mock the idea that anyone would do this as bad business practice (which in normal circumstances I agree it would be) Anyroad, I fully agree it will be complex, any more or less complex than the other hundreds of thousands of issues that have had to be overcome? creating a vaccine from scratch in 9 months being the big one that springs to mind However, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, the vaccine got approved last week and it’s going in peoples arms this week so they must have found a way Thank god
  8. Not sure anyone has lambasted thr government for investing in Nightingale hospitals and ventilators that we might have / might still need Likewise I don’t think they would be lambasted for investing in a deep freeze distribution centre to store a vaccine Billions in an app and £150m on masks that didn’t work is fair game IMO (although I’m sure done with the right intentions)
  9. But won’t take a flyer on a few deep freeze facilities that could help get a vaccine out and end the madness 😂
  10. £10bn on a track and trace app that didn’t work
  11. Covid will cost us trillions, it isn’t a normal situation
  12. £600m on ventilators, many haven’t been used... https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-uk-government-spent-569-million-on-ventilators-for-the-nhs-but-many-havent-been-used-12085241
  13. How much have we spent on nightingales that haven’t been used? edit £220m https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/nightingale-hospitals-coronavirus-cost-nhs-coronavirus-a9559551.html
  14. I’m just saying, when we agreed to buy X millions of them months ago we would have been made aware, so I doubt it’s new news to the relevant people Given we have spunked billions on all sorts (£40bn on track and trace?), what’s another few tens of millions putting in place temperature controlled storage and transport that you may or may not need
  15. I should imagine that Pfizer knew exactly what temperature controls would need to be in place many weeks / months ago, around the time they were taking pre orders from us no point agreeing something then springing that news on us at the 11th hour
  16. Works for 48 hours after coming out deep freeze doesn’t it? Should be more than enough time to get out of a distribution centre, to a hospital then into someone’s arm Dry Ice should also buy more time if needed
  17. They normally do 15m Winter Flu jabs without issue Given everything that’s going on you’d like to think they can ramp up the NHS to deliver considerably more Covid vaccines Besides, get the 15m done and 99% of the risk to the NHS disappears, that’s the 30m appointments that count Its like the most vulnerable 5m people represent a bigger % of the risk to the NHS than the other 10m, get those 5m most vulnerable sorted (10m appointments) and the risk that Covid poses to the NHS will halve
  18. With regards your point about average Earnings, I was of the understanding that the Indian and Chinese groups earned more than the White group... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-48919813 If the system is rigged in favour or whites over non whites then we are certainly doing a shit job of rigging it The Chinese and Indian groups outperform whites in pretty much every aspect of life from school, higher education, average earnings to life expectancy (Chinese and Indian groups live for around 5 years more than white) What is it in the culture of the Chinese and Indian groups that allows them to outperform both Black and White groups in every measure? Surely it must be down to cultural differences within each group rather than simply the colour of ones skin
  19. I’m not blanket blaming ‘black fathers’ However the disparity between single person households in the Black Caribbean community is way out of kilter with the other groups Its been flagged before as an issue by many in that very community... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-19815831 Similar trend in the US https://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/16/us/politics/15cnd-obama.html Wouldn’t say David Lammy and Obama are ‘niche’
  20. FTSE 100 - I think it’s ridiculous to think that because our BANE community make up 14% of the population they should then make up 14% of every aspect of industry. Most board members are older, that’s not because of age discrimination but because it takes time to build up experience If the BAME community over index in younger age categories and less so in the over 50 group then that would be reflected in the numbers Around 50% of the BAME community weren’t born here, they emigrated here at some point. Very difficult to see someone emigrate over, start a new life and get to board level of a FTSE 100 in a lifetime. Many of them came on Visas to work in the NHS, difficult to see them working in the NHS whilst getting to a board of a FTSE 100
  21. Education, please share your data source, everything I can see has the White group performing worse, Chinese and Indian ge really outperform both white and black. Certainly doesn’t indicate a system that favours whites over non whites... https://www.ethnicity-facts-figures.service.gov.uk/education-skills-and-training/higher-education/entry-rates-into-higher-education/latest Main facts and figures in 2019, White pupils had the lowest entry rate into higher education (the percentage of state school pupils aged 18 years accepted into higher education) in every year from 2007 to 2019, White pupils had the lowest entry rate into higher education pupils from the Chinese ethnic group had the highest entry rate into higher education during the same period entry rates in 2019 were higher for all ethnic groups compared with rates in 2006 the entry rates for all ethnic groups increased in 2019 compared with 2018
  22. You’d have to have a look, still disproportionate of course but it narrows it down when you exclude the older population (which tend to be whiter) Will narrow again if you look at London Borough level (don’t compare a Black lad in a rough area of London with a Posh white lad from Richmond), think it drops to 1:4 then. If you look in places outside of London such as Liverpool then the statistics are 1:2 However, all that to one side, should stop and search data have parity? Should males be as likely to be pulled as females, Old people the same as young, Black the same as white or should we allow for nuance based on likelihood that someone is carrying drugs and or weapons? Unfortunately a young black male is more likely to be carrying weapons and or drugs than a young white male in the U.K. Is that the systems fault or a cultural difference within that community?
  23. @ZicoKellycan recommend some great Gypsies who will sort that drive for you Salt of the Earth lads
