Did that section hold 6k? I’m surprised if it did.

Yes, easily at that time. In its hey day, before the Normid and the narrowing of the terracing at the back, it held over 20,000. Im sure when Newcastle came in the FA Cup in the seventies, they brought 17,000, and Bolton fans were also present in the Embankment then, obviously that was before the decrease in capacity.

PS just googled it, the capacity was 28,000 when at its biggest.

Are you sure? Where did we put 6000 Stoke fans? I’d of been at the game but have no recollection of an away following of 6k back then.

That would be correct, they had half of the Embankment, Julian Darby scored the winner.

I'm no doom monger, I'm probably nearer to happy clapper (seeing as WW only ever has 2 options), but I'm actually a realist and here's my take.

Evatt has done a good but not great job here at Bolton IMO.

Promotion from L2 at the first attempt was the bare minimum to be acceptable and his poor starts to his first two seasons might have seen him sacked elsewhere, especially if fans were in the ground.

The slow start to season 2 cost us a play-off place.

Last year's meek capitulation in the play-offs was hard to take, but reaching the play-offs (and winning a pot) was progress/an achievement in itself.

Failing to make the top 2 this season would be an underachievement and if we're back in this League next season, Evatt & the team will have failed us. A play-off win now becomes this season's bare minimum acceptable.

I don't know who they are (don't ask), but I bet there are other managers in this league who would make the top 2 with our squad/budget.

Good post, that about were im at.

There is no reason to have a style of play that you think will be suited to a higher division if the same style can not get you out of this one or you can not adapt the style.

Yesterday was frustrating as we will really should be looking up to win the league not checking how far ahead of 7th we are. But the same short fallings we have seen at Northampton, Wigan, Blackpool, Exeter and Orient were there again. Plenty of possession and missing the odd occasional chance we create. So yesterday is another noble failure.

The manager will come out with another rallying call when once again the supporters have turned out in their thousands. Collins might turn out to be a great player, he certainly shows some glimpses but we needed to sign someone who could make an immediate impact, Evatts comments a couple of weeks ago made it clear this was not the plan, so we decide to spend a massive amount on a player who will be great next year you better make sure you get to the next level anyhow.

Last season the top 3 ended with nearly 300 points, the next 5 in the league were the current top 5, so no relegated or promoted team involved, looking at the tables 2 'decent' teams and Rotherham who are usually good enough at this level come down, Stockport and Wrexham with money and impetus coming up, it is likely to a be a tougher league with I hate to say it Blackpool and Wigan settled and even Reading with new owners potentially improving.

If we do not go up the season has to be classed as a failure IMO, the manager won't be sacked but will be interesting if anyone comes in for our players - Santos, Sheehan, Baxter and Thomason could all attract attention, loan players going back and it could be busy close season.

We could still well  go up but fuck me we make it a lot harder than we should.

Great post. I still think its a " system" issue in this league. Would much prefer dedicated full backs and dedicated winger/wingers, who with regards to full backs, who can actually tackle, and wingers, who can actually take players on and get decent crosses in. Our " wing" backs are neither, they aint good enough defensively, and are not good enough to be wingers. I like Ogbeta, but his crossing, in general was woeful yesterday, with the exception of Bods chance. Back to basics for me, but we all know Evatt wont change.

    12games -17 points.

    Won only 4 of those.

    1 away win in SEVEN.

Only TWO clean sheets in those 12.

We have imploded when it matters.

Those are the harsh facts, dress it up however you want.

But hey, why let the truth get in the way of a good story.

    Very plain, simple, truthful facts.

FYI play off final this year 18th may

if we don’t. Crumble over 2 games

Whatever happens, we will still have been the better team!

More importantly we don’t have another cheating referee like the one that won the game for them last night

    Absolutely, baffling decisions.

  8. Very close to selling out now Derby, a few hundred tickets left by all accounts. Biggest gate of the season anticipated. They are making it a " Black n White" day apparently, pushing scarves and flags all over the ground. Going to be some atmosphere, lets hope we have the bottle to cope.

All 5 top teams including us playing and expected to win tonight - just hoping someone other than us slips up, even though we've got the toughest fixture.

We haven’t played well for more than 45 minutes in any game all season and more often than not  we have had chances to have blown a lot of teams away and not taken them - such as yesterday and second half at Barnsley.

look at the hard work we made of orient at home, where again it was chalk and cheese first half  v second half.

we have also had so many big moments in games where we fluff our lines and then we live to regret it eg miss at Portsmouth, miss at orient, missed chances at Blackpool, dominance at Wigan.

injuries have also had such a massive effect, particularly given they have been to the “spine” players.

I can’t put my finger on what is exactly has been wrong this season but what I do know is that we have 9 games left and still a great chance of going up. We can worry about the ifs and maybes after.

one thing I do know is if we don’t go up this season, we will have missed a really good opportunity and the landscape will look a lot different come next august.

Very good post. Yesterday in the first half, it just looked like it was a case of how many we would win by, we was that dominant, what happens at half time is anyones guess?

Im with you with regards to promotion. If we dont go up this season, which, personally, i dont think we will, it will be more difficult next season, and, i fear, crowds will start to dwindle.

At the start of February we were two points behind Derby with three games in hand. Since then we've played 10 games, only two against teams in the top seven (Barnsley, twice). We've dropped points against Wigan, Blackpool, Northampton, Exeter and Charlton.

We're now one point behind Derby, but play five of our last nine against top seven teams. We only beat two of those five teams first time around.

It's not hopeless, it's definitely not impossible. But looking across Evatt's reign our best chance at promotion is beating the lesser teams. We've fucked that and now this group is going to have to do something we haven't seen them do before.

Talking football sense, which you have, wont count for nothing on here. The 3  bully boys on here will have you think we are going to win the league!  I really do feel for them, they are massively deluded. My prediction is play offs, which, for what we have spent, is not good enough. Lets hope we have a massive turnaround in our results, especially away. As  Bolton fans, we all want the same thing, promotion, but im not confident.
