  1. The majority of clubs entering the competition still face replays - in the Preliminary and Qualifying Rounds (and Extra Prelim too). I am fairly sure  that for most of these clubs replays never make money but do cause unnecessary extra work.

Let me add that the chairman of the FA is my partner's niece (yes really). I haven't spoken to her (the chairman - not my partner) since her 60th birthday bash at the start of the season.

Why can't they just make seasons longer?

    Or reduce league sizes?

    Same goes for our league.

Once upon a time football was only played in month's containing an R (so September to April).

Reducing leagues sizes is clearly an option, but clubs at all levels do want gate receipts.

Who remembers his Dad, Lewis? He used to be a professional too.

Actually his brother Lewis is also a professional (footballer) with Torquay.

A dull set of fixtures though with 9 of them featuring teams from the same league

Understand why West Brom v Wolves is an early KO but 11.45am? When was the last time a game kicked off before noon??

The 1873 final kicked off at 11.30 (it was due to start at 11.00 but some players arrived late).

    There was a reason.

    hope youre well, my friend

I'm well(ish) thanks, and my partner is recovering from breast cancer surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The operation was at the end of June 2022 and the major treatments ran from that October to March 2023.

I just don't have as much free time as I once did!

Thought he might have gone to someone like Leicester

They were on the lookout for a new keeper and have the City connection with their manager

He was always going to spend a lot of time picking the ball out of the net at Burnley despite his u21 performances

The record for goals conceded in the Central League is held by one G Banks of Chesterfield Reserves.

He was about 17 at the time and Chesterfield were by far the weakest team in that league. Most teams were reserves of top flight teams plus some notable second tier clubs of the day, such as Liverpool.

    Another few cracks papered over.

Wheels will be off before Christmas

    Get shut now

You Oxford fans are all the same.

Their manager and assistant are now settling in at Ashton Gate!

That was 2 points dropped today, don't give a shit, we're aiming for top 2 and we played bottom of the league today and only managed a draw.

    Not good enough.

Better than last time we played against bottom of the league

Absolutely: are female athletes a bit more feminine on the whole now? :)

As for the two golds- I'm not sure what the rules are exactly, but if both athletes fail at the same height, and both have the same performance on countback, what can they do?

Part of me feels that there should be one winner, but if the comoetition rules allow for two, then to suddenly chuck one in would seem unfair.

Did you not see the women hammer throwers?

The rule require a jump-off. One additional attempt at the final height. If still tied then height changed by the current incremental change (5cm in this case) - both fail, then lower by 5cm, both succeed increase by 5cm until tie is resolved. That could take a while, especially in PV.

If both agree not to jump off then it is a tie.

The jump-off rule only applies in HJ and PV and only to first place. A tie for third would always give 2 bronzes.

correct, if they need a ground to play Rugby at, then they should just move in with Leigh. The pair of them should have merged years ago anyway

but what colours would they play in?

Of course, but like we all went ape shit when we lost Fossey, we brought in Bradley. Par the January window our recruitment has been quite good.

Evatt is a perfectionist and no doubt him, Chris Markham and the team will be doing some extensive analysis on the players coming in.

Saying that I think they must have seen some edited footage of Randell Williams, Mbete & Jerome cause I have no way explaining them signings 😅

What we very clearly need is a goalkeeper!

    They could use 0

    Then say 21%

Odd that they didn’t, wouldn’t you say?

Begin with an index or measure at 100 and express future years as the growth (+/-) is applied.

Thus growths of 5% followed by 10% give indices of 105 and 115.5 respectively.

If the same growths appeared in reverse order the indices after 100 would be 110 and 115.5 respectively.

If you begin with zero all future figures will be zero, so it was not your best ever suggestion.

Listen to this especially from 10 mins onwards. To think this nutter was a serving MP up until last week.

He still is a serving MP!

Could grab a tremendous win at Trent Bridge.

but didn't. Hartley and Croft put on a swift 91 to rescue Lancs and set a demanding target.

Notts were 55/6 but Clarke and Hutton took them to 122/7 (needing to reach 295 to win).

Stuart Broad took anchor with Anderson bowling from one end and Hartley from the other, scoring 3 off 50 balls.

Hartley took a wicket with the first ball of the final over but Olly Stone (tweaked hamstring in the field) came in and saw out the remaining 5 balls.

Played 4 drawn 4, so only in 7th position in the table.
